Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud is a memory foam mattress made in the US. Offering TEMPUR® foam, average motion isolation, and a medium level of firmness, the entry-level TEMPUR-Cloud sells for $2,799 for a queen size.

Memory foam is known for heat trapping, so you might expect a mattress at this price point to offer advanced cooling features. However, TEMPUR-Cloud has only a temperature-regulating cover to balance out possible overheating—which may not be enough.

In comparison, competing memory foam mattress Octave Vista is designed with a cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam, and phase-change material for advanced temperature regulation so you can enjoy a restorative sleep. It’s also available for a much lower price at just $899 for a queen size.

Product Details

The 10″ Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud is the brand’s compressed mattress option. In Canada, shoppers can only purchase the all-foam version. It features a 3-layer design and is made with TEMPUR® foam. The breathable, moisture-wicking cover is not machine-washable. This could be partly due to the fact that the mattress’s internal layers are wrapped in a fire sock containing fiberglass.

It’s also important to note that the mattress cover is the only cooling feature. Considering memory foam‘s heat-trapping properties, the mattress cover may not be enough to keep temperatures down at night.

TEMPUR-Cloud is marketed as a medium firmness, but third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) determined that it has a medium-firm feel. You’ll also notice this mattress has more “hug” and softness in the comfort layer than you might expect from a foam mattress.

TEMPUR-Cloud has average motion isolation, which is lower than you might expect from a memory foam mattress. It’s also much more expensive than comparable bed-in-a-box brands at $2,799 for a queen size, with a shorter sleep trial and warranty period than many competitors. For example, competing memory foam mattress Octave comes with a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty.

The mattress should arrive on your doorstep within 5–7 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. It also comes with a 90-night sleep trial and a 10-year limited warranty. These timelines are shorter than many online competitors like Octave, who offers a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty.

TEMPUR-Cloud can be returned between sleep trial nights 30–90, but you won’t receive a full refund. If you got free shipping with your purchase, you’ll receive your refund minus shipping charges. A $175 return fee taken from the full refund may apply.

TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress Construction

TEMPUR-Cloud contains 3 layers of foam. According to the chat feature on their website, Tempur-Pedic doesn’t publicly share the layer measurements or foam densities of their mattresses.

• Layer 1: The comfort layer is roughly 2″ of TEMPUR® foam. This layer is described as soft and supportive. Unfortunately, the TEMPUR-Cloud website doesn’t share the exact thickness of this layer or its foam density.
• Layer 2: The transition layer is around 2″ of TEMPUR® foam. The TEMPUR-Cloud website describes this as a firmer support layer that slowly adapts and conforms to your body for pressure-point relief. Similar to the comfort layer, the exact measurements and foam density of this layer aren’t available.
• Layer 3: The support layer contains about 6″ of premium foam. This layer helps the mattress stay structured and supportive.

TEMPUR-Cloud’s cover isn’t machine-washable and can’t be removed. This could be partly because TEMPUR-Cloud contains 23% “glass fiber” (fiberglass) in its internal fire sock netting. (We safely removed the cover for the purposes of this review but don’t recommend doing the same at home.) Instead of removing the cover, spot-clean the mattress carefully when it gets dirty.

This top cover is a polyester and spandex blend. Tempur-Pedic says the material is breathable and moisture-wicking. However, it’s not clear how the top cover could possibly provide enough cooling. Polyester isn’t naturally breathable and can trap heat. Spandex also doesn’t have cooling properties and can reduce the breathability of other fabrics.

It’s possible that Tempur-Pedic could have engineered the mattress cover to provide cooling features through the right combination of fabric structure, moisture management, and added cooling technologies. But since the company hasn’t shared any such information, this may not be the case.

With the top cover being TEMPUR-Cloud’s only apparent cooling feature, it’s unlikely that the mattress cover is cool enough to offset the heat-trapping properties of memory foam.

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud scored 5.5/10 for firmness. While TEMPUR-Cloud is marketed as having a medium feel, this rating places TEMPUR-Cloud at the lowest end of the medium-firm category. It has a good amount of “hug” in the top layer, which may make it difficult to change positions or could potentially trigger pressure points.

If you’re looking for a mattress that falls within the firmer side of the medium-firm range, you’ll prefer Octave Vista. Vista scored 6.8/10 for firmness and features an innovative five-zoned support system to provide consistent ergonomic support beneath your back, hips, and knees.

Foam mattresses usually have average edge support. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud provides excellent edge support with an above-average score of 8.5/10. You shouldn’t have any trouble sitting on the edge of the mattress or getting out of bed in the morning.

Typically, foam mattresses earn better motion isolation scores than innerspring products. At 4.6/10, Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud’s motion isolation score is below average compared to other foam mattresses. If you’re a restless sleeper (or share a bed with one), consider a mattress with greater motion isolation for uninterrupted sleep.

For example, Octave Vista scored a much higher 7.3/10 for motion isolation in third-party engineer testing. Octave’s multiple layers of high-density foam provide a cushioning effect and improved motion isolation to keep your partner’s movements from waking you—and to ensure a more restful sleep.

Foam mattresses are usually less bouncy than innerspring mattresses due to the lack of springs. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud earned a 3.6/10 bounce rating, similar to other foam mattresses. If you like a springy, responsive mattress that makes it easy to change positions, TEMPUR-Cloud may not be right for you.

Cooling Features

While Tempur-Cloud boasts cooling features, the company doesn’t explain exactly what those cooling technologies are. We were only able to identify two features, based on what the brand advertises. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud earns points for its:

1. Top cover made with breathable, moisture-wicking fabric
2. Layer of individually wrapped coils that allow for air circulation (optional add-on)

If you want a mattress with more cooling features to enjoy more rejuvenating sleep, consider Octave Vista instead. Its features include a moisture-wicking cover infused with cooling nanofibres to pull sweat away from your body, heat-dissipating gel foam, ventilated foam for air circulation, and phase-change material that adapts to seasonal temperature changes.

A good night’s sleep is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle, and Octave is designed for that purpose. Compared to Tempur-Cloud, Octave offers more advanced cooling technologies for less than a third of the cost—just $899 for a queen size.

In 2012, Tempur-Pedic merged with the Sealy Corporation to become the world’s largest bedding company.

Despite the company’s prestige, it holds a “Bad” rating on Trustpilot and is rated “B” (unaccredited) on Better Business Bureau. Tempur Sealy International only has a 1/5 star rating for BBB customer reviews. When this TempurPedic mattress review was written, over 700 complaints had been filed in recent years. Many reviews expressed concerns about return, warranty, and customer service issues.

Should You Buy TEMPUR-Cloud?

While TEMPUR-Cloud is a good mattress, it has an incredibly high price tag compared to other memory foam mattresses. It also contains fiberglass and doesn’t offer as many cooling features to provide an optimal sleep environment for deep and restorative sleep. We recommend Octave Vista instead.
