Memory Foam & Micro-Coil Hybrid Mattress

The Simba 5000 Pro Flex Mattress is a Canadian-made hybrid mattress available through Sleep Country Canada. It has below-average edge support and only comes with a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty. These are basic features for a mattress that’s regularly priced at $2,499 for a queen size.

With all this in mind, Simba 5000 may not be your best choice if you’re shopping for a premium mattress on a budget. You may prefer Logan & Cove Frontier instead.

Delivery box for Simba 5000 Pro flex mattress

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Sleep Country offers free shipping across Canada for any order above $75. However, a $120 shipping fee applies for remote areas like Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, and Newfoundland and Labrador. It should take 3–10 business days to reach your doorstep, including dispatch and delivery time. However, more than a few customers have noted delivery delays in their online reviews.

Simba 5000 comes with a 100-day sleep trial and a 10-year warranty, which is average for mattress-in-a-box brands. It also isn’t immediately clear what the warranty does and doesn’t cover. Simba guarantees coverage for any manufacturing flaws, but only covers damage to the mattress cover for the first year.

If you decide Simba 5000 isn’t right for you, you’ll only be able to exchange it for a new product—no refunds. Sleep Country also charges a $65 exchange fee for picking up the old mattress and delivering a new product.

It’s worth noting that more affordable luxury brands like Logan & Cove offer a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty—considerably longer coverage for a lower price. You can also return the mattress for a full refund if you aren’t completely satisfied.

Simba 5000 is a hybrid mattress, meaning it has a foam comfort system over an innerspring core. Simba 5000’s selling points include up to 5,000 coils and “7 layers of engineered comfort,” according to the product page on the Simba website. However, the same page says “up to 2,500 springs” and “five layers” further down. We confirmed the mattress has 5 layers when we tested it. It’s not clear how many coils the mattress actually contains.

The mattress is 14″ thick. To break it all down into layers:

  • Layer 1: The comfort (top) layer is a 0.375-inch hypoallergenic, hand-knitted wool surface. It’s designed with breathability in mind to keep temperatures down.
  • Layer 2: This layer is 2.5″ of graphite-infused Simbatex. This is a type of open-cell foam that helps to regulate airflow.
  • Layer 3: This layer is made up of 2″ coils that spread your weight evenly across the mattress. The number of coils isn’t clear but could be up to 5,000.
  • Layer 4: The transition layer is 2″ of support foam. This layer is designed to prevent rolling or dipping at the sides. However, it doesn’t seem to provide additional edge support, as Simba 5000 received a low edge support score in third-party engineer testing
  • Layer 5: The support layer is 7.125″ of support foam. This layer is divided into five separate comfort zones with wool filling beneath. It also includes air channels for breathability.

Choose Logan & Cove Frontier, the mattress made with nearly 3,000 individually pocketed coils.

Mattress Performance Results

3.5 /10

Edge Support

According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), edge support for Simba 5000 is well below average at 3.5/10. This means you may have difficulty getting out of bed or sitting on the mattress edge.

(Looking for better edge support? Check out Logan & Cove Frontier, which has an edge support rating of 7.3/10.)

7.4 /10

Motion Isolation

Simba 5000 scored 7.4/10 for motion isolation, which is good for a hybrid mattress. You should only notice small movements from your partner or your pet sleeping beside you.

3.6 /10

Bounce

Simba 5000 scored a low 3.6/10 for bounce. Not bad if you’ve got a restless partner and you want a good night’s sleep, but not great if you need to get up in a hurry.

(Need a little extra bounce? Logan & Cove Frontier will put a little more spring in your morning with a bounce rating of 4.8/10.)

Simba 5000 Cooling Features

4.5 /10

Cooling Features

The Simba 5000 mattress is a hybrid mattress advertised as having cooling features, especially regarding its ‘Simbatex’ foam and its ‘Aerocoil springs.’ This mattress earns points for its:

  1. Mattress cover that Simba claims to be ‘breathable.’ It is hypoallergenic, which can offer some cooling properties
  2. Wool in the comfort layer for moisture absorption and temperature regulation
  3. Graphite infusion in its ‘Simbatex’ foam which promotes airflow and draws heat away from the body
  4. Open-cell foam, which allows for better airflow and prevents heat retention in the mattress
  5. Micro coils that allow for increased air circulation
  6. Ventilated foam, which enhances airflow

Simba 5000 has a good amount of cooling features. However, if you’re looking for a mattress with more advanced cooling features at a more affordable price, consider Logan & Cove Frontier. Designed with a cooling nanofibre cover, cooling gel foam, micro coils, and individually wrapped coils, Frontier is available at just $1,299 for a queen size, compared to $2,499 for Simba 5000.

“A+” (unaccredited)

“Excellent”

Simba Sleep launched in 2015 and is based in the United Kingdom. Simba’s Canadian products are made in Canada.

According to the company’s website, Simba is the world’s most reviewed mattress brand. Not all of these reviews are positive—some Simba mattress reviews have noted issues that become apparent after the customer’s sleep trial ended, including sagging, back pain, and mattress odour.

Though Simba doesn’t offer direct in-person retail in Canada, it has partnered with Sleep Country for distribution. Sleep Country was founded in 1994 in Vancouver, BC, and now has hundreds of brick-and-mortar stores across Canada. The company sells a variety of sleep products, including mattresses, pillows, bedding, and furniture.

Simba itself has a good online reputation with a Trustpilot rating of “Excellent”. While the company’s Canadian distributor, Sleep Country, is rated “A+” (unaccredited) on Better Business Bureau, Sleep Country holds a customer review rating of just 1.3/5 stars. The company also has a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot. Common customer complaints include product issues and difficulty filing warranty claims.

Choose Logan & Cove, the mattress brand that’s rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best Simba mattress?

Simba’s latest and most well-known mattress is Simba 5000, but Sleep Country still sells its Simba 1500 and Simba 2500 mattresses. Simba 5000 is considered the best Simba mattress due to factors like its additional layers and coils.

Can I clean the Simba 5000 mattress?

According to Simba’s website, it’s okay to use light fabric cleaning products (like Febreze) or just a damp cloth to wipe it clean. The company strongly advises against removing the cover to clean the interior, however.

Is the Simba 5000 mattress pad machine washable?

No. The manufacturer states that its mattress pads are spot-clean only.

What kind of physical support does Simba 5000 need?

According to the manufacturer, Simba 5000 works with any kind of support you might use for most other mattress types. This could include supports like a flat base, adjustable base, or box spring on a bed frame.

What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover?

Sleep Country offers a 10-year warranty on Simba’s behalf, which covers manufacturing defects but not customer misuse. Ask customer service staff for more details if you’re shopping in-store rather than online.

Where are Simba mattresses made?

Though previously made in China, all of Simba’s Canadian inventory is manufactured in Canada.

How long does a Simba mattress last?

While Simba 5000 comes with a 10-year warranty, damage to the mattress cover is only covered for 1 year. Some customers have noticed issues appearing both before and after the 100-night sleep trial, so it’s possible that Simba 5000 might not live out its warranty.

What Simba mattress alternatives should I consider?

Consider Logan & Cove Frontier as an alternative to Simba 5000. This hybrid mattress offers upgraded features like a plush Euro-top design, cooling layers, pressure-point relief, and unmatched full-body support.

Logan & Cove offers a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty to help you love your mattress longer. You’ll also get a free bedding bundle with purchase that includes a mattress protector, sheets, pillow(s), and pillow protector(s).
