Product Details
The medium-firm S&S Mattress is a 3-layer memory foam mattress that stands 10″ tall. It has one advanced cooling feature—a layer of gel-infused foam.
Silk & Snow says its removable, machine-washable mattress cover has antimicrobial properties. However, the law label on the mattress we purchased only says that the mattress cover was made from polyester. There is no other publicly available information to explain the advertised antimicrobial properties.
Polyester is known for its durability but isn’t commonly known as a breathable fabric, so without any additional cooling features on this cover, you could find that this mattress cover traps heat throughout the night due to the nature of polyester.
If you tend to sleep warm, you may want to consider a cooling foam mattress like Douglas Original instead. Douglas has a moisture-wicking cover, gel-infused open-cell foam, a 365-night sleep trial, and a longer 20-year warranty—all for $799 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Silk & Snow uses various courier services for mattress delivery, including (but not limited to) FedEx and UPS. Most customers in Canada get free shipping, but you may have to pay an additional fee for shipping to remote locations. Depending on your province or territory, it will take 2–9 business days to receive the mattress, including dispatch and delivery time.
The mattress arrives in a cardboard box and is protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic. After it’s unrolled, the mattress fully expands within minutes and is ready to sleep on the same day it’s delivered.

The company offers a 365-night sleep trial, which is comparable to competitor mattress brands like Douglas. If you decide to return your mattress within the trial period, you will need to contact Silk & Snow’s customer service team to coordinate your return and refund.
The S&S mattress warranty spans 15 years, with free repairs or replacements within the first 10 years. Competitors like Douglas, on the other hand, offer a 20-year warranty for even longer coverage.

S&S Mattress Construction
The S&S Mattress contains 3 layers of foam, each working together to provide a good balance of comfort and support.
- Layer 1: The comfort layer features 2″ of open-cell, high-density gel memory foam. This top layer helps relieve pressure points while letting you sink into the mattress.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 2″ of transition foam. This layer serves double duty by reinforcing the mattress’s motion-isolating qualities while being an extra buffer for the support layer below.
- Layer 3: The support layer is made from 6″ of premium support foam. This bottom layer makes up the mattress’s foundation, keeping you from sinking too deep into the lower layers.
According to the law label, this mattress cover is 100% polyester. The cover has a 360-degree zipper for easy removal and is machine washable. Although the cover is advertised to have antimicrobial properties, it’s not clear how a polyester cover would do this.
It’s possible that the polyester fibres were either coated with an antimicrobial substance or woven with other antimicrobial fibres. However, there’s no information on the mattress’s law label or on Silk & Snow’s website to support this.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

6.0 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), The S&S Mattress had a deflection of 2.8″ when laid on, contributing to its 6.0/10 firmness score. This places it in the “medium-firm” category.
(Want a supportive mattress with a slightly firmer feel? We recommend Douglas Original with its firmness score of 6.7/10.)

7.5 /10
Edge Support
Foam mattresses don’t normally perform as well as hybrid mattresses in terms of edge support. However, the S&S Mattress only had a deflection of 4.7″ from a seated position, earning it an edge support score of 7.5/10.
This is very good for a foam mattress. You should be able to sit on the edge of the S&S Mattress without worrying about falling off.
(Looking for a foam mattress with even better edge support? Consider Douglas Original with its higher edge support score of 7.8/10.)
6.7 /10
Motion Isolation
Foam mattresses tend to have very good motion isolation. Their ability to absorb movement makes them an ideal option for those that do not want to be woken up by their partner’s movements during the night. The S&S Mattress scored 6.7/10 for motion isolation, which is an above-average score.
(If you’re looking for a mattress with a higher motion isolation score, consider Douglas with its score of 8.3/10.)
2.7 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Foam mattresses tend to offer a slower response time, translating to a lower bounce score. Hybrid mattresses with coils tend to be more bouncy and have a high response to pressure since they’re easy to switch positions and move around on.
The S&S Mattress’s bounce score of 2.7/10 falls in line with expectations for foam mattresses.
(Need a touch more bounce for easier movement throughout the night? Douglas Original may be a good option with its bounce score of 3.1/10.)

2.0 /10
Cooling Features
The S&S Mattress isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress, but Silk & Snow does promote its cooling properties, which includes one advanced cooling feature. This mattress earned points for its:
- Gel-infused foam that makes the mattress cool to the touch and draws heat away from the body
- Open-cell foam construction in the top layer that promotes breathability
If having cooling features in your mattress is a priority for you, consider Douglas Original instead, which has a cooling feature score of 4.2/10. Douglas comes with a moisture-wicking, machine-washable, cooling top cover. Plus, its layer of cooling gel foam and breathable Elastex foam help to regulate temperatures throughout the night.
