Product Details
The medium-firm S&S Mattress is a 3-layer memory foam mattress that stands 10″ tall. While it contains a layer of gel-infused memory foam, it’s noticeably lacking in cooling features to help you sleep cool at night. This could be a problem since this mattress has a fair amount of “hug,” which can contribute to overheating.
Silk & Snow says that its removable, machine-washable mattress cover has antimicrobial properties. However, the law label on the mattress that we purchased only says that the mattress cover was made from polyester. There is no other publicly available information to explain the advertised antimicrobial properties. Polyester is known for its durability but isn’t commonly known as a breathable fabric, so you could find that the mattress cover traps heat throughout the night.
If you need extra support or tend to get overheated during the night, this mattress might not be the best fit for your needs. You may want to consider a cooling foam mattress like Douglas Original instead. Douglas also has a moisture-wicking cover, 365-night sleep trial, longer 20-year warranty, and free bedding bundle—all for $799 for a queen size.
Ideal For: Back Sleepers, Side Sleepers
Want an award-winning all-foam mattress with a medium-firm feel? You should meet Douglas.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Silk & Snow uses various courier services for mattress delivery, including (but not limited to) FedEx and UPS. Most customers in Canada get free shipping, but you may have to pay an additional fee for shipping to remote locations. Depending on your province or territory, it will take 2–9 business days to receive the mattress, including dispatch and delivery time.
The company offers a 365-night sleep trial, which is comparable to competitor mattress brands like Douglas. If you decide to return your mattress within the trial period, you will need to contact Silk & Snow’s customer service team to coordinate your return and refund.
Silk & Snow promotes a seamless return experience. However, customers on BBB and Trustpilot have complained of issues with returns, warranty claims, and getting a response from customer service. The company might be rated “A+” on BBB, but it’s important to note that its customer star rating is under three stars.
The mattress warranty spans 15 years, which is a reasonable length. That said, Douglas offers a 20-year warranty for even longer coverage—and possibly a longer mattress lifespan.
Want a longer mattress warranty? Take a look at Douglas.

S&S Mattress Construction
The S&S Mattress contains 3 layers of foam, each working together to provide a good balance of comfort and support.
- Layer 1: The comfort layer features 2″ of high-density gel memory foam. This top layer helps relieve pressure points while letting you sink into the mattress.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 2″ of transition foam. This layer serves double duty by reinforcing the mattress’s motion-isolating qualities while being an extra buffer for the support layer below.
- Layer 3: The support layer is made from 6″ of premium support foam. This bottom layer makes up the mattress’s foundation, keeping you from sinking too deep into the lower layers.
The polyester mattress cover includes a 360-degree zipper for easy removal and is machine washable. Although the cover is advertised to have antimicrobial properties, it’s not clear how a polyester cover would do this.
It’s possible that the polyester fibres were either coated with an antimicrobial substance or woven with other antimicrobial fibres. However, there’s no information on the mattress’s law label or on Silk & Snow’s website to support this. If this material is present, it’s in a small enough quantity that the percentage can’t be listed on the law label.
Looking for a foam mattress with a little less sinkage and more support? You might prefer Douglas.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.0 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), The S&S Mattress had a deflection of 2.8″ when laid on, contributing to its 6.0/10 firmness score.
This places it in the “medium-firm” category. The S&S Mattress has some “hug” when you first lie down. This means the mattress may trap your body heat and contribute to overheating, especially since the mattress has limited cooling features.
(Want a supportive mattress with less hug and a slightly firmer feel? We recommend Douglas Original with its firmness score of 6.7/10.)
7.5 /10
Edge Support
Foam mattresses don’t normally perform as well as hybrid mattresses in terms of edge support. However, the S&S Mattress only had a deflection of 4.7″ from a seated position, earning it an edge support score of 7.5/10.
This is very good for a foam mattress. You should be able to sit on the edge of the S&S Mattress without worrying about falling off.
(Looking for a foam mattress with even better edge support? Consider Douglas Original with its higher edge support score of 7.8/10.)
6.7 /10
Motion Isolation
Foam mattresses tend to have very good motion isolation. Their ability to absorb movement makes them an ideal option if you or your partner are a restless sleeper. The S&S Mattress scored 6.7/10 for motion isolation. While this score is above average, you may still feel some movement while sleeping on this mattress.
(If you’re looking for a mattress with outstanding motion isolation, consider Douglas with its score of 8.3/10.)
2.7 /10
Bounce
Foam mattresses typically have low bounce scores due to their high motion isolation properties. The S&S Mattress’s bounce score of 2.7/10 falls in line with expectations for foam mattresses.
(Need a touch more bounce for easier movement throughout the night? Douglas Original may be a good option with its bounce score of 3.1/10.)
1.2 /10
Cooling Features
The S&S Mattress isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress, but Silk & Snow does promote its cooling properties. Those cooling features are quite minimal compared to competitor mattresses. In fact, this mattress only earned points for its:
- Gel-infused foam that makes the mattress cool to the touch and draws heat away from the body
If you’re looking for a mattress with more cooling features, consider Douglas Original instead. Douglas comes with a moisture-wicking, machine-washable, cooling top cover. Its layer of cooling gel foam and breathable Elastex foam to help regulate temperatures.

Company Background
Silk & Snow is a relatively small North American company specializing in bed and bath products for Canadian and American customers.
In 2017, the company ventured into the bed-in-a-box market after successfully completing a Kickstarter campaign. At that time, they introduced their initial memory foam mattress, the Original (later rebranded to the S&S Mattress). The company later expanded its product line to include two more mattresses and a line of bath products.
Silk & Snow is rated “A+” with the Better Business Bureau. However, as of this review’s publication, the company holds a customer review rating of less than three stars. Complaints cover issues like low quality, discrepancies in shipping costs despite the website’s claim of free shipping, challenges in reaching customer service, warranty, and delayed order deliveries.
Silk & Snow’s Trustpilot rating is “Great”, but there are still a number of one-star reviews. Negative Silk and Snow reviews mention sagging, lengthy processes to honour warranties and returns, and poor post-purchase customer service.
