Product Details
S&S Organic is a hybrid mattress available in three firmness options: plush, medium-firm, and firm. The medium-firm version stands 12″ tall and has 4 interior layers. All versions scored well for edge support and motion isolation in third-party testing, but we found that the plush version is much firmer than advertised.
As the name suggests, S&S Organic uses organic materials like latex foam and a mattress cover woven from organic Canadian-grown cotton. The cotton cover, perforated latex foam, and breathable metal coils provide some cooling benefits, but it lacks other common features found in non-organic mattresses, like cooling gel foam.
S&S Organic requires a rigid base. According to the company, it should be used with a traditional metal bed frame and matching foundation. You can also use it on a slatted bed frame with slats that are at minimum 2″ wide and no more than 3″ apart. It’s important to note that S&S Organic is not compatible with wired metal frames or adjustable bases. Double-check to make sure the mattress is compatible with your current frame before you buy.
In comparison, Logan & Cove Choice is compatible with adjustable bases for a more customized sleep. The mattress provides numerous cooling features like cooling gel foam, individually pocketed coils that allow for airflow, and cooling nanofibres woven into the top cover. Choice also has a layer of breathable open-cell Elastex® foam, which provides the same responsiveness and breathability as latex at a more accessible price point.

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Construction
S&S Organic’s medium-firm version stands 12″ tall and has 4 interior layers. The latex used is GOLS certified, and all other textile materials are OEKO-TEX® certified.
- Layer 1: S&S Organic’s top layer, located directly beneath the mattress cover, is roughly 1″ of natural New Zealand wool. This adds a little extra plushness when you lie down on the mattress.
- Layer 2: The second layer is 1″ of latex foam. The latex is produced using the Dunlop method, ensuring its organic nature compared to synthetic blends. This layer is perforated to help circulate air and contribute to a cooler night’s rest, and adds responsiveness to the mattress.
- Layer 3: This layer uses 1.5″ of latex identical to the layer above, adding more cooling, air circulation, and responsiveness.
- Layer 4: The support layer uses 8.5″ individually wrapped and zoned pocketed coils. Soft coils are placed along the outer part of the mattress, while firmer coils in the central third of the mattress help keep your spine aligned.
The plush version of the mattress increases the 1.5″ latex layer’s thickness to 3.5″, while the firm version lacks that layer completely.
The S&S Organic mattress cover is made from GOTS-certified organic Canadian-grown cotton. The cover offers softness and breathability but can’t be removed for cleaning. Spills or stains must be spot-cleaned only.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.7 /10
Firmness
S&S Organic has a varied feel, depending on which version you get. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the medium-firm version had a 2.9″ deflection when laid on, giving it a 6.7/10 firmness score, while the firm version’s slightly lower deflection earned it a 7.0/10. Both of these scores are consistent with the firmness categories advertised by Silk & Snow.
The plush version, however, scored 6.0/10—much firmer than the plush feel advertised, which translates to our medium-soft category. If you’re looking for a very soft bed, the plush version likely won’t be right for you.
8.0 /10
Edge Support
Hybrid mattresses generally have above-average edge support, thanks to their supportive inner coils. S&S Organic’s medium-firm version’s deflection from a seated position was 4.1″, earning it an excellent 8.0/10 edge support score.
The firm version scored an exceptional 9.7/10, while the plush version scored the lowest (but still very well) at 7.3/10. You’ll notice almost no sinkage when sitting on the edge of the firm mattress, and only somewhat more sinkage when sitting on the medium-firm and plush versions.
7.5 /10
Motion Isolation
All three versions of S&S Organic scored similarly for motion isolation. The medium-firm version earned a motion isolation score of 7.5/10, while the firm and plush versions both scored 7.4/10. You’ll notice relatively little movement from the other side of the mattress when your partner changes sleep positions.
7.5 /10
Bounce
S&S Organic’s medium-firm version tested 7.5/10 for bounce, which is a high score, even for a hybrid mattress. Its firm version tested slightly higher at 7.7/10, while its plush version scored much lower at 4.8/10. If you’re looking for a more consistent sleep surface, the medium-firm and firm versions may have far too much bounce for you.
4.5 /10
Cooling Features
S&S Organic isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress, but Silk & Snow does advertise several cooling features. It has a combination of natural materials that improve the breathability of the mattress and provide temperature control. This mattress earns points for its:
- Organic cotton cover, which is breathable and moves heat away from the body
- Wool quilt layer, which provides a natural breathability to the mattress
- Latex layers with an open-cell structure for improved airflow
- Perforated foam layers that allow for added airflow to the mattress
- Pocketed spring coils that provide increased air circulation
If you’re looking for a mattress with more cooling features, consider .Logan & Cove Choice. . In addition to individually pocketed coils, Choice also contains gel-infused foam, breathable open-cell Elastex® foam, and cooling nanofibres in the top cover for a cool-to-the-touch feel. Choice is available for just $999 for a queen size, compared to $1,400 for S&S Organic

Company Background
Silk & Snow is a relatively small North American company specializing in bed and bath products for Canadian and American customers.
In 2017, the company ventured into the bed-in-a-box market after successfully completing a Kickstarter campaign. At that time, they introduced their initial memory foam mattress, the Original (later rebranded to the S&S Mattress). The company later expanded its product line to include two more mattresses and a line of bath products.
Silk & Snow is rated “A+” with the Better Business Bureau. However, as of this review’s publication, the company holds a customer review rating of less than three stars. Complaints cover issues like low quality, discrepancies in shipping costs despite the website’s claim of free shipping, challenges in reaching customer service, warranty, and delayed order deliveries.
Silk & Snow’s Trustpilot rating is “Great”, but there are still a number of one-star reviews. Negative Silk and Snow reviews mention sagging, lengthy processes to honour warranties and returns, and poor post-purchase customer service.
