Product Details
Serta iComfort TempActiv II is a combination foam mattress with a medium level of firmness. It stands just over 11″ high. This particular mattress stands out as one of the least bouncy models we’ve ever reviewed, which contributes to its above-average motion isolation.
Serta iComfort has some cooling features, like cooling gel and a cotton/polyester cover that the manufacturer claims is directly infused with cooling technology. However, this mattress contains memory foam, which is known to trap heat. These cooling features alone may not be enough to prevent overnight overheating. The mattress also lacks zoned support, which is essential if you’re looking to promote healthy posture while you rest.
This mattress is priced at $3,799–$4,999 and comes in twin XL to king sizes. It’s not available in twin or California king sizes. This is an unusually high price point for a mattress with few special features. Some customers have also reported quality issues with the iComfort product line (as seen here, here, and here) after as little as 1–3 years. Some of these same customers report difficulty getting Serta to honour its 10-year manufacturer warranty.
This contrasts with competing memory foam mattresses like Octave Vista that offer more features at a lower price. Vista comes with a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, and multi-zone ergonomic support to give you a more restoring night’s sleep. It’s much more affordably priced at just $899 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Note: Serta iComfort TempActiv II was available in Canada through Sleep Country but has been discontinued. You may still be able to find it through some mattress resellers. We purchased this mattress from Sleep Country, so the information in this section is specific to Sleep Country’s delivery, sleep trial, and return practices.
Mattresses typically ship from Sleep Country within 3–10 business days including dispatch and delivery time, depending on the company’s inventory and delivery schedule. You have 100 nights to test your mattress at home using Sleep Country’s standard sleep trial.
If you want to return the mattress, you need to bring the mattress back to the store yourself. There are no refunds, only exchanges for store credit. A $65 exchange fee applies.
Sleep Country offers a 10-year warranty on most mattresses. However, customers have left negative reviews on Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot about product quality and warranty claims. If you need to file a warranty claim—which is possible given customer complaints about the low quality of iComfort mattresses—you may have difficulty getting your claim honoured.
In comparison, competing memory foam mattresses like Octave Vista offer a 365-night sleep trial with free return pickup and a full refund. The mattress also comes with a 15-year warranty. Octave is rated “A+” on BBB, is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot, and maintains a rating of 4.7/5 stars across more than 6,000 on-site customer reviews.
Shop Octave Vista for a longer sleep trial, greater warranty, and better company reputation.

Serta Mattress Construction
Serta iComfort Tempactiv II is a combination foam mattress with 5 distinct layers. It stands just over 11″ high. All foam used in this mattress’s construction is CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: This layer is 0.75″ of gel memory foam. It works with the layer below to provide comfort as you lie on the mattress, and contains cooling technology to keep you from overheating as you sleep.
- Layer 2: The second layer is 1″ of memory foam, which works with the top layer to provide body-contouring comfort while you sleep.
- Layer 3: This 1″ layer of support foam acts as a transitional layer to prevent you from feeling the denser support layer at the bottom of the mattress.
- Layer 4: A 1.5″ layer of memory foam helps support the upper transition layer.
- Layer 5: The final layer is 7″ of dense support foam, which gives the mattress most of its weight, support, and structure.
Serta doesn’t disclose the densities of the foams used in Serta iComfort TempActiv II.
Some customer reviews about the iComfort mattress line complain of degradation after just 1–3 years (sources 1, 2, and 3). Looking at the mattress’s construction, it’s not clear why this is the case, but it’s a customer-reported concern you should be aware of when mattress shopping.
The mattress cover is woven from Serta’s proprietary TempActiv™ fabric. Serta claims that this cotton and polyester cover has “temperature-regulating technology infused directly into the fabric.”
However, memory foam is known for heat trapping, and this mattress contains over 3″ of memory foam spread across three layers. The gel foam layer and mattress cover may not be enough to keep temperatures comfortably low while you sleep.
Get a better night’s sleep with Octave Vista’s advanced temperature control and moisture-wicking technology.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
4.8 /10
Edge Support
Serta iComfort TempActiv II scored 4.8/10 for edge support in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). This is about average compared to other mattresses. That means you shouldn’t notice too much sagging when you sit on the edge of the bed.
(Looking for something with more edge support? Octave Vista‘s 7.5/10 edge support score means you can sit on it without sinking into the sidewalls.)
6.8 /10
Motion Isolation
Serta iComfort TempActiv II scored above average for motion isolation at 6.8/10. You and your partner are less likely to notice each other’s movements as you sleep.
(Octave Vista scored even better for motion isolation at 7.3/10, which is great for helping you get an uninterrupted sleep.)
1.9 /10
Bounce
Serta iComfort TempActiv II scored 1.9/10 for bounce. This rating isn’t just unusually low—it’s one of the lowest bounce scores of any mattress we’ve ever tested. Because there’s plenty of “hug” in this mattress, you’ll find it difficult to change positions while you sleep.
(Octave Vista‘s layer of Elastex® foam gives it a 3.7/10 bounce score, which makes it easy to change sleep positions and get up in the morning.)
3.0 /10
Cooling Features
The Serta iComfortTempActiv II mattress is a combination foam mattress that is advertised as having some cooling features. This mattress earns points for its:
- TempActiv fabric in the top cover, which the manufacturer claims is infused with cooling technology
- Gel-infused foam which promotes cooling in the memory foam layer
- Copper infusion which transfers heat away from the body
The Serta iComfortTempActiv II has a decent amount of cooling features. However, if you’re looking for a mattress with more advanced cooling features, consider Octave Vista. In addition to CopperGel™ infused memory foam, Octave Vista also has additional features like PolarMAX® phase-change material, Elastex® foam (a breathable latex-like foam that promotes better air circulation than traditional memory foam), and cooling nanofibres.

Company Background
Founded in 1931, Serta is an American company based in Illinois. Serta’s biggest licensee, the National Bedding Company, was acquired by two private equity firms in 2005. After the following restructuring, Serta International became a subsidiary of Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC. The company also acquired independent mattress brand Tuft & Needle in 2018. In early 2023, Serta filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and concluded financial restructuring later that year.
Despite its high profile in the mattress industry, the company’s reputation on consumer protection websites is concerningly low. On Trustpilot, the company is rated “Poor”, with more than 70% of customer reviews being one star. Serta’s Better Business Bureau profile is rated “F” (unaccredited) with a customer review rating of 1.73/5 stars.
Some customer reviews have reported difficulty dealing with customer service and attempting to get warranty claims honoured. Complaints also include quality issues like mattress sagging and degradation relatively soon after purchase, leading to issues such as back pain.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Serta iComfort a good mattress?
Serta iComfort TempActiv II lacks premium features to balance out its high price tag of $3,999 for a queen size. Customers also report concerning quality issues with the iComfort line of mattresses (as seen here, here, and here).
Competing memory foam mattress Octave Vista is a better choice with its advanced cooling technologies, machine-washable cover, and five-zoned support beneath your back, shoulders, and hips that relieves pressure where you need it the most. These meticulously engineered features all work together to give you a better night’s sleep—at just $899 for a queen size.
Can you flip a Serta iComfort mattress?
No, you shouldn’t flip the mattress. Like most modern mattresses, the Serta iComfort’s layers are designed to be oriented one way only.
How long does a Serta iComfort mattress last?
Serta has a 10-year warranty on this mattress. The foam interior should remain intact as long as the mattress is rotated regularly. However, some customers have noted degradation with the iComfort line of mattresses after 1–3 years of regular use (sources 1, 2, and 3).
Is the Serta iComfort mattress cover machine washable?
Yes. The Serta iComfort TempActiv II’s polyester-and-cotton cover is removable and machine washable.
Where are Serta mattresses made?
Serta produces its mattresses in Canada and the United States.
How much is a Serta mattress?
Pricing varies by mattress and retailer. At the time of its release, Serta iComfort TempActiv II sold at $3,999 for a queen size at Sleep Country. The mattress has since been discontinued.
Who sells Serta mattresses?
Serta mattresses are sold by a variety of different retailers, including Sleep Country Canada and The Brick. Serta iComfort TempActiv II has been discontinued and is only available through mattress resellers.
How do I return a Serta mattress?
Return policies vary according to individual retailers. Always read a store’s return policy carefully before you buy any mattress.
What Serta mattress alternatives should I consider?
We recommend Octave Vista. It comes with advanced cooling features like a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover andcopper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material. Its five-zone ergonomic support promotes proper spinal slignment and relieves strain on sore muscles and joints, giving you a deeper and more restful sleep.
