Foam Mattress with Hidden Warranty, Low Motion Isolation

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite is an all-foam mattress that provides a blend of support and comfort throughout your sleep. It has a plush quilted top and three foam layers meant to relieve pressure on your joints and keep you relatively cool.

This model from Sealy’s Posturepedic line was discontinued in 2024. While it was available, Optimum Aphrodite sold for $1,099–$1,999, depending on the mattress size. It could be purchased through third-party retailers like Walmart (sold and shipped through Sleep Country).

Optimum Aphrodite is medium-firm, but it has poor edge support and the worst motion isolation of any mattress we have ever tested. In addition, Sealy doesn’t clearly state how long Aphrodite’s warranty is. To find out, you need to locate a code on the mattress tag and compare it to Sealy’s warranty document.

In comparison, competitor mattress Octave Vista comes with a clear 15-year warranty and offers excellent motion isolation and edge support. Vista also offers advanced cooling and comfort features for a better night’s sleep.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Your Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite should arrive within 3–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. Note, however, that this depends on Sleep Country’s inventory and delivery schedule.

It’s important to note that Walmart sells Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite as a marketplace item. The product is sold and shipped by Sleep Country Canada, so Walmart’s return and warranty policies don’t apply.

You can test the mattress at home using Sleep Country’s 100-night sleep trial. If you decide to return your mattress, Sleep Country requires you to bring the mattress back to the store yourself. You can only return the mattress for store credit—no refunds—and you’ll need to pay a $65 exchange fee.

The Sealy warranty covers manufacturing defects only. It doesn’t cover damage to the mattress or indentations shallower than 1.5″. The warranty length varies according to the schedule number on the warranty tag—usually between 1 year and 10 years.

The Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite mattress we purchased has a “P3” warranty code. This means the mattress has a 10-year limited warranty with 10-year, no-charge repair or replacement. It’s important to note that this information isn’t publicly available. We had to check the law tag on the mattress we ordered, then compare it with Sealy’s warranty document, which is hard to find on their website.

Sleep Country also offers a 10-year warranty on most mattresses. However, Sleep Country has received customer complaints on Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot about product quality and warranty claims, which are issues that go hand in hand.

In comparison, some mattress brands like Octave offer a 15-year warranty. The company is also rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot. Octave maintains a rating of 4.7/5 stars across 6,400+ on-site customer reviews.

No

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite is 11.25″ tall and has 3 foam layers. These layers are meant to relieve joint pressure and moderate body temperature.

  • Layer 1: The top layer is about 3″ of gel memory foam. This foam comfort layer contours around your body, which may create added heat while you sleep.
  • Layer 2: Aphrodite’s transition layer is about 6″ of polyurethane foam. It supports your body and should keep you from sinking too deeply into the mattress.
  • Layer 3: The bottom layer is roughly 1″ of support foam. This is thin for a support layer, meaning the mattress’s structure may not hold up over time.

The tight-top cover accounts for the final 1″ of mattress height. It contains silver ion-infused performance fibres, which Sealy claims will neutralize odours. Unfortunately, this mattress cover isn’t removable or machine washable.

Mattress Performance Results

3.9 /10

Edge Support

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite scored 3.9/10 for edge support. This means you will likely have trouble sitting on the edge of the mattress and could even find yourself sliding off.

In comparison, competitor foam mattress Octave Vista scored 7.5/10 for edge support—almost twice as high. You’ll be able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed or sleep farther away from the middle of the mattress.

2.4 /10

Motion Isolation

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite earned the lowest score we have ever awarded for motion isolation at just 2.4/10. This is unusually low for a foam mattress, since foam normally cuts down on motion transfer.

If you sleep beside a partner, kids, or pets, Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite won’t provide the motion isolation you need for a good night’s sleep. Try Octave Vista instead. It scored 7.3/10 for motion isolation—over three times as high as Aphrodite.

4.6 /10

Bounce

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite scored 4.6/10 for bounce, which is fairly responsive for a foam mattress. You should be able to shift positions without any trouble.

Cooling Features

While Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress, it does contain technologies that provide a certain amount of temperature regulation. Aphrodite earns points for its:

  1. Top cover with silver ions and cooling yarn for a cool-to-the-touch feel
  2. Gel infusion to promote cooling in the memory foam layer

That said, these features may not be enough to offset the heat-trapping properties of memory foam. If you’re looking for more advanced cooling features, consider Octave Vista instead.

You can enjoy a cooler, more restful night’s sleep with Vista’s temperature-regulating technology. This includes a moisture-wicking cover with cooling nanofibres to draw sweat away from your body, ventilated foam for air circulation, and phase-change material that adapts to seasonal temperature changes.

Vista’s memory foam layer also contains antimicrobial copper, carrying heat away from your body while promoting a clean, fresh sleep surface. Even with all these features, Octave Vista is accessibly priced at just $899 for a queen size, compared to $1,499 for Sealy.

“Poor”

Founded in the 1880s, Sealy crafted customized mattresses in a Texas town, adopting the town’s name as its own. Sealy was an industry frontrunner by the 1920s. The well-known Posturepedic mattress line was added to the company in the early 1950s.

In 2012, Sealy merged with Tempur-Pedic, one of its biggest competitors, to become Tempur Sealy International, Inc. The corporation also owns the Stearns & Foster mattress brand.

Sealy holds a “B-” (unaccredited) rating on the Better Business Bureau, but a user score rating of only 1/5. On Trustpilot, Sealy has a “Poor” rating with a score of 2.3/5. Tempur-Sealy International also received a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot. Customers have reported issues receiving orders, using their products, and resolving warranty claims.

Should You Buy Sealy Posturepedic?

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite has poor edge support and the lowest motion isolation we have ever seen. It also comes with a limited sleep trial and shorter warranty than other mattress companies offer. If you’re shopping for a foam mattress, we find more value in brands like Octave.

Canadian-made Octave Vista is precisely engineered for comfort and pressure relief, offering superior motion isolation, edge support, and cooling features for a truly restorative and refreshing sleep experience.

Vista also comes with a 365-night risk-free sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, a machine-washable cover, and a free bedding bundle—all for just $899 for a queen size.

The warranty length varies according to the schedule number on the warranty tag—usually between 1 year and 10 years. The Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite mattress we purchased has a “P3” warranty code, meaning it has a 10-year limited warranty with 10-year, no-charge repair or replacement.

Where are Sealy mattresses made?

Sealy’s mattresses and bedding are assembled in the United States, but their bases are manufactured in China.

What support should I use with Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite?

Sealy recommends using a Sealy flat base, adjustable base, or flat foundation with a Posturepedic mattress. You can use a slatted base if each slat is at least 3″ wide. Sealy doesn’t recommend using a boxspring or futon base.

What Sealy Posturepedic mattress alternatives should I consider?

Octave Vista is a memory foam mattress crafted with advanced cooling and comfort features. It’s available at a compelling price of $899 for a queen size, compared to $1,499 for Aphrodite. Octave also comes with a 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and free bedding bundle.

Octave mattresses are meticulously crafted for deeper and more rejuvenating sleep, as well as ergonomic support throughout the night. The mattress’s innovative five-zoned support system provides extra cushioning beneath your back, hips, and knees, giving targeted pressure-point relief where you need it most. In fact, the brand states that 86% of customers suffering from back pain said Octave helped reduce their pain.

The contouring, high-density memory foam layers in Octave mattresses help to relieve strain and tension in your joints and muscles. This reduces pressure points, promotes better blood flow, improves overnight recovery, and supports proper spinal alignment so you can wake up feeling physically and mentally refreshed. With all these benefits, Octave is a worthy competitor to Sealy Posturepedic.
