Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Sealy uses FedEx to ship Cocoon Essential for free throughout Canada. Typically, the mattress will arrive at your doorstep in 5–7 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. The mattress arrives in a cardboard box and is protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic. After it’s unrolled, the mattress is ready to sleep on the same day it’s delivered.

Cocoon comes with a 100-night sleep trial. During that time, you can decide whether to keep the mattress or return it. Sealy asks that you wait 30 days before making a final decision and requesting a return.
The company will arrange for mattress pickup and donation to a local charity. However, the shipping cost will be deducted from your return. Sealy also requires your mattress to be in good condition and free of any stains or damage.
Sealy offers a 10-year warranty, which is standard for the mattress industry. The warranty covers issues caused by manufacturing defects, as well as tears in the mattress cover.
Sealy’s sleep trial, return policies, and warranty might be industry standard, but they don’t compare with competing mattresses like Douglas Original. Douglas offers a 365-night sleep trial, which gives you much more time to determine whether this mattress is right for you. The mattress also comes with a 20-year warranty—twice the length of Sealy’s warranty.
Shop Douglas for a longer sleep trial and warranty.

Cocoon Mattress Construction
Cocoon Essential stands 8″ tall when unrolled and fully expanded. The mattress interior has 3 foam layers.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 1.5″ of memory foam. This layer conforms the most to your body’s shape as you lie down, providing pressure-point relief.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 1.5″ of comfort foam. This layer helps cushion and support your body. It also prevents you from feeling too much of the support layer‘s density.
- Layer 3: The 5″ bottom (support) layer acts as the mattress’s foundation. Its higher density stops you from sinking too deep into the mattress.
All foam is CertiPUR-US® certified. The mattress cover also isn’t machine washable, so you’ll have to spot-clean any spills and stains.
Try Douglas Original with its cooling features and machine-washable mattress cover.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Edge Support
Good edge support is important if you like sitting up or lounging on the side of your bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge or need extra stability for getting in and out of bed—especially if you or your partner have mobility challenges.
Cocoon Essential scored 8.9/10 for edge support in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). This is excellent compared to other mattresses, and means you can sit comfortably on the edge of the bed.
6.0 /10
Motion Isolation
Cocoon Essential scored above average for motion isolation at 6.0/10. You and your partner probably won’t notice each other’s movements as you sleep.
If high motion isolation is important to you, you may want to consider competing mattress Douglas Original scored considerably better for motion isolation with 8.3/10.
5.8 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied.
Cocoon Essential scored 5.8/10 for bounce. This is above average, especially for an all-foam mattress. You should be able to change positions without any trouble.
If you are a light sleeper and would prefer a mattress with less bounce, you may want to consider competing mattress Douglas Original with its bounce score of 3.1/10.

Cooling Features
Cocoon by Sealy isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress. It has no cooling features. Foam is a heat-trapping material, which is why many foam mattresses incorporate cooling features like cooling gel foam to offset these properties.
If you’re looking for a mattress with more cooling features, we recommend Douglas Original instead with its layer of cooling gel foam. Douglas also comes with a moisture-wicking, cooling top cover, and a breathable layer of Elastex® foam, whose open-cell structure promotes breathability and airflow.

Company Background
Founded in the 1880s, Sealy crafted customized mattresses in a Texas town, adopting the town’s name as its own. Sealy was an industry frontrunner by the 1920s. The well-known Posturepedic mattress line was added to the company in the early 1950s.
In 2012, Sealy merged with Tempur-Pedic, one of its biggest competitors, to become Tempur Sealy International, Inc. The corporation also owns the Stearns & Foster mattress brand.
Sealy holds a “B-” (unaccredited) rating on the Better Business Bureau, but a user score rating of only 1/5. On Trustpilot, Sealy has a “Poor” rating with a score of 2.2/5. Tempur-Sealy International also received a 2.7/5 rating on Trustpilot.
