Product Details
Saatva refers to the Saatva Classic mattress as both an innerspring and a hybrid in various areas of the company’s website. However, because there is less than 2″ of foam in the mattress, it should be considered an innerspring mattress.
Saatva Classic stands 11.5″ tall, with an optional upgrade to a 14.5″ model. The mattress comes in three firmness options: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. We purchased the 11.5″ Luxury Firm mattress for this review. Despite the name, Saatva states that Luxury Firm has a medium to medium-firm feel. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Saatva Classic earned a firmness score that’s consistent with a medium-firm feel.
Saatva Classic has unusual interior construction, especially for an innerspring mattress. It features two coil layers, both made from tempered steel. The top layer uses pocketed 14.5-gauge coils, while the bottom layer uses heavier 13-gauge Bonnell coils that are wired together. Dense support foam surrounds both coil layers. This contributes to the mattress’s excellent edge support.
Saatva Classic’s top cover is made from 100% organic cotton. It’s designed to be breathable and durable. The bottom cover, however, is far less durable. Our Saatva Classic mattress arrived with a rip in the bottom fabric. This is disappointing for a mattress that costs $2,998 for a queen size.
Apart from the breathable top cover and coil layers, Saatva Classic doesn’t offer cooling features. If you’re looking for a cooling mattress with inner coils, you might prefer a hybrid mattress like Logan & Cove instead. Logan & Cove Choice has a layer of cooling gel foam and a plush-quilted cover woven with cooling nanofibres. It’s also less than half the price of Saatva Classic at just $999 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Saatva Classic is only available for purchase in the United States. Saatva used to ship to Canadian customers, but the company stopped doing so after encountering supply chain issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Saatva Classic can only be purchased if you organize cross-border shipping with a third-party courier, like we did.
Saatva Classic shipped to us fully expanded and wrapped in a single sheet of plastic. In our experience, this doesn’t provide enough protection for long-distance shipping. Our Saatva Classic mattress arrived damaged with a rip in the bottom fabric.
Saatva offers a 365-night sleep trial. If you decide to return your mattress during the trial period, Saatva will schedule pickup and issue a full refund, minus a $99 (USD) processing fee. The mattress will then be donated to a veterans’ shelter or offered to an employee, discounter, or associate at one of Saatva’s delivery centres.
Saatva provides a lifetime warranty that covers manufacturing defects only. The company will ship a new mattress to you if yours is damaged within the first two years due to faulty workmanship or materials. In years 3–15, the company only provides repairs or refurbishment for a fee of $149 USD. It’s not clear what happens after the 15-year mark.
It’s unclear how much of this warranty Saatva will honour if you live in Canada. The Saatva website didn’t provide any details and we were unable to reach Saatva’s customer service agents for an explanation, despite repeated attempts.
Saatva Mattress Construction
Saatva Classic stands 11.5″ tall and has 3 interior layers. The foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified. Saatva doesn’t disclose the densities of the foams used in Saatva Classic’s top layer or sidewalls.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 3″ of soft foam, quilted into a diamond pattern. This layer adds plushness and keeps you from feeling the coils below. Beneath the middle third of the top layer, a “lumbar crown” made of high-density memory foam and “spinal wire” provides pressure-point relief.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer uses 6″, 14.5-gauge individually pocketed coils. The smaller gauge of these coils makes them more responsive, conforming to your body’s overall shape as you lie on the mattress. Saatva says these coils are stronger and firmer in the middle of the mattress, where most of your body’s weight is located.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 4″ thick and contains 13-gauge innerspring coils. These coils give the mattress most of its bulk, and stop you from sinking too deeply into the mattress while you’re lying on it.
* We don’t typically consider the mattress cover to be a top layer. In this case, however, the cover and the top layer of foam are integrated and must be considered a single layer.
The coil layers are surrounded by 3″ of dense foam running along the sidewalls. This contributes to Saatva Classic’s high edge support score.
Saatva’s breathable mattress cover is made from 100% organic cotton. It isn’t removable or machine-washable, so you’ll need to spot-clean any stains or spills. The mattress doesn’t have any other cooling features, so if you’re a hot sleeper, the cover’s breathability might not be enough to keep you from overheating.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.3 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Saatva Classic had a deflection of 3.3″ when laid on, earning it a 6.3/10 firmness score. This places it in the medium-firm category, making it a good fit for most sleep styles.
Looking for something on the softer side of medium-firm? Logan & Cove‘s firmness score of 6.9/10 gives you the support you need and the comfort you deserve.
8.8 /10
Edge Support
Innerspring mattresses typically have good edge support because of the inner coils. Saatva Classic’s deflection from a seated position was 3.4″, giving the mattress an excellent 8.8/10 edge support score. You can sit down on this mattress or sleep farther away from the middle with no fear of falling off the bed.
6.4 /10
Motion Isolation
Saatva Classic earned a motion isolation score of 6.4/10. This is an above-average score for an innerspring mattress. You will most likely feel some of your partner’s larger movements on the other side of the mattress, but smaller movements should go unnoticed.
8.3 /10
Bounce
Saatva Classic earned a bounce score of 8.3/10. This is an exceptionally high score, even for an innerspring mattress. You shouldn’t have any difficulty changing positions. However, this mattress may be too responsive to allow for a restful night’s sleep.
Looking for a mattress with less bounce? With a bounce rating of 5.8/10, Logan & Cove Choice gives you a smooth, comfortable, and supportive sleep.
1.6 /10
Cooling Features
Saatva Classic isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress, but innerspring mattresses tend to have better airflow. However, the mattress’s unusual dual-coil construction—and the fact that its coils are encased in edge support foam—limits how well the mattress can breathe. Saatva Classic gains points for its:
- Breathable cotton top cover
- Individually wrapped pocket coils that support airflow and minimize heat retention.
If you’re looking for a mattress with coils that provides better cooling, consider Logan & Cove Choice instead. Its construction includes layers of cooling gel foam and airflow-promoting pocket coils, along with a quilted top cover that contains breathable hollow fibre, gel-infused foam, and cooling nanofibres.
Choice offers all of these advanced cooling features at an accessible price of just $999 for a queen size, compared to $2,998 for Saatva Classic.

Company Background
Saatva is an American mattress company founded in 2010. The company’s name comes from the Sanskrit word sattva, meaning “purity” or “goodness.” Saatva grew by selling mattresses directly to consumers from 2019 to 2021. Saatva was acquired by Bedding Industries of America in November 2023.
The company is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau and “Excellent” on Trustpilot. However, some customer reviews have reported difficulty with customer service, as well as issues with mattresses sagging and degrading not long after purchase. Other customers have reported that the company’s mattresses have caused them back pain.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Saatva mattresses good?
Saatva Classic performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). But this mattress costs $2,998 for a queen size—an exceptionally high price for an innerspring mattress without common features found in less expensive mattresses. It’s also difficult to purchase if you live in Canada. We recommend Canadian hybrid mattress Logan & Cove Choice instead, which offers much more value at just $999 for a queen size.
Where can you buy Saatva mattresses in Canada?
Although Saatva mattresses used to be available in Canada, the company doesn’t currently offer its products to Canadian customers. According to Saatva, this is due to supply chain issues caused during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, you might find a Saatva mattress available for resale in Canada.
Does the Saatva mattress come in a box?
No, Saatva mattresses don’t come in a box. They aren’t designed to be rolled or compressed. Instead, Saatva delivers mattresses wrapped in a plastic sheet, with no other packaging or insulation. This can be risky, depending on the courier used and how far the mattress travels to reach your door. The Saatva mattress we ordered was delivered with a rip in the bottom fabric.
Where are Saatva mattresses manufactured?
Saatva manufactures its mattresses in the United States.
Who owns Saatva Mattress?
Saatva is owned by Bedding Industries of America, which acquired Saatva in 2023.
What is Saatva’s mattress warranty?
Saatva offers a lifetime warranty that covers manufacturing defects only. Your defective mattress will be replaced for free for up to two years after purchase. You’ll have options for repair or replacement (at steadily decreasing discounts) in years 3–15. It’s not clear what warranty coverage is provided after the 15-year mark.
Because Saatva no longer does business in Canada, it’s unclear how much of this warranty applies to Canadian consumers. Saatva’s website doesn’t provide further information and we were unable to contact the company’s customer service department, despite repeated attempts.
Can I return a Saatva mattress?
Yes, you can return your Saatva mattress within the 365-night trial period. However, this process could be more difficult if you live in Canada. To start a return, call Saatva’s toll-free line during your sleep trial. Saatva will schedule a pickup and issue a refund for your mattress at the price you purchased it. You will be charged a $99 USD processing fee.
Can you flip a Saatva mattress?
No, Saatva mattresses cannot be flipped. Saatva Classic, like most other modern mattresses, will not work as intended if it’s upside down.
What Saatva mattress alternatives should I consider?
We suggest Logan & Cove Choice. This medium-firm hybrid mattress works for all sleep styles and comes with advanced comfort and cooling features. At just $999 for a queen size, Logan & Cove Choice provides excellent value with a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.
