These pressure-relieving layers reduce stress on your body, muscle soreness, and tension so you can wake up feeling fully recharged. Octave Horizon Mattress Construction
The Canadian-made Octave Horizon is a 14″ mattress designed with 5 layers, all meticulously crafted to deliver the greatest pressure-point relief and motion isolation of any Octave mattress. All foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified, proving the product is made with non-toxic materials. This certification is often expected by customers who are looking for a healthy sleep surface.
- Layer 1: Octave Horizon’s comfort layer is 2.5″ of CopperGel™ memory foam. Copper is an antimicrobial metal that promotes cleanliness in the mattress’s top layer for a fresh sleep surface. This layer is also enhanced with PolarMAX® phase-change material. The material reacts to your changing skin temperature to keep your body comfortable, letting you enjoy a deeper, more restorative sleep.
- Layer 2: Horizon has a 1.5″ layer of aerated latex. This responsive foam layer contains hundreds of air vents, which allow for high ventilation and temperature control to maintain an optimal sleep environment while offering plenty of support.
- Layer 3: This layer is 2″ of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam. This layer absorbs heat from the upper layers while contouring around your body to provide pressure-point relief and reduce muscle tension.
- Layer 4: The mattress’s transition layer is 2″ of premium Elastex® foam. This proprietary material feels just like natural body-cushioning latex. It also adds extra bounce that helps you change positions more easily without disturbing your partner.
- Layer 5: Octave Horizon’s support layer is 6″ of high-density support foam. It has five pressure-relief zones engineered to provide ergonomic support for your hips, back, and knees, providing proper spinal alignment and reducing pressure points. The foam also includes air channels for extra-cooling airflow.
Octave Horizon has a soft-touch cover with more CryoFusion™cooling nanofibres than other Octave mattresses. The nanofibres work with the other cooling features to draw away moisture and keep your sleep environment at the right temperature for a comfortable night’s sleep. The top cover is also removable with a 360-degree zipper, and it’s machine washable for extra convenience.
All Octave mattresses are made with premium materials and foams for engineered comfort and superior durability. The lifespan of a mattress is often indicated by the warranty length, and Octave’s generous 15-year warranty is longer than most. This means you can expect a good night’s sleep on your Octave mattress for many years.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.0 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Octave Horizon scored 6.0/10 for firmness, placing it within the medium-firm category. Most Canadians prefer medium-firm mattresses. This level of firmness provides an ideal balance of comfort and support and is ideal for a wide range of sleep styles and body types.
Horizon cushions and contours your entire body with its premium foam layers. The mattress provides comfort and support to relieve stress on your body, promote proper spinal alignment, and relieve pressure points that cause aches and pains.
6.8 /10
Edge Support
Getting a mattress with good edge support allows you to use more of your sleep surface. Unlike many foam mattresses on the market, Octave Horizon delivers great edge support with an above-average score of 6.8/10. You can comfortably sit on the edge of the bed or sleep farther away from the middle without worrying about falling off the edge.
7.6 /10
Motion Isolation
If you’re a light sleeper who’s often woken by your partner’s tossing and turning, you’ll want a mattress that minimizes motion transfer. Octave Horizon provides excellent motion isolation with a score of 7.6/10. The mattress’s layers of high-density foam cushion your body and prevent your partner’s movements from waking you.
You could even notice less movement and more undisturbed sleep, thanks to the mattress’s balanced support and weight distribution. The brand states that 95% of customers were satisfied with the overall quality of their sleep since switching to the Octave mattress.
3.8 /10
Bounce
For mattresses, bounce tends to be a matter of personal preference. A mattress with high bounce might make it easier to switch positions, while a mattress with low bounce gives you a more consistent surface for a restful sleep.
Octave Horizon has a below-average bounce score of 3.8/10, which isn’t unusual for a foam mattress. That said, its layers of responsive Elastex® and latex foam will make it easy to change positions while enjoying a good night’s sleep.
8.7 /10
Cooling Features
As the most advanced mattress in the Octave lineup, Horizon has innovative cooling technologies in each layer to maximize cooling for a more refreshing sleep. Octave Horizon has the highest cooling score we’ve seen so far at 8.7/10. This mattress earns points for its:
- Top cover that actively pull away sweat from your body, with CryoFusion™ nanofibres for a cool-to-the-touch feel
- CopperGel™ infused memory foam for enhanced heat dissipation
- PolarMAX® phase-change material that adapts to body temperature and prevents heat retention
- Layer of aerated latex that features hundreds of vents for optimal air circulation and temperature regulation
- Layer of cooling gel foam for even more enhanced cooling and contouring
- Layer of Elastex®, a breathable latex-like foam that ensures good air circulation
- Support layer with air channels that facilitate proper airflow, keeping the entire mattress cool and moisture-free
By combining multiple advanced cooling features in every layer, Horizon helps you regulate your sleep temperature so you can sleep soundly throughout the night, no matter what the season is. Compared to higher-end mattresses with similar features, Octave Horizon is far more accessibly priced at just $1,499 for a queen size.

Company Background
Octave is the next step in the evolution of Novosbed, one of Canada’s first bed-in-a-box brands. Founded in 2009, Novosbed was the first company to offer a 100-night sleep trial. This was later extended to 365 nights. Octave has applied this deep experience and history of innovation to develop Canada’s best mattress for a good night’s sleep.
Octave Vista, Mirage, and Horizon are engineered with advanced features like temperature-regulating materials, antibacterial copper-infused memory foam to keep your mattress fresh, and five-zoned support to promote proper spinal alignment while you sleep. Octave also offers exceptional motion isolation and pressure-point relief, resulting in an even greater sleep experience than Novosbed.
- Octave Vista provides a restful and restorative sleep experience with a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material for temperature balance, and multi-zone support foam to relieve body aches and pain.
- Octave Mirage builds on Vista’s advanced features with an additional layer of aerated latex foam, which is filled with hundreds of vents for improved responsiveness and breathability. Its cover also has twice the moisture-wicking nanofibres as Vista. Mirage’s upgraded motion isolation, cooling, and pressure-point relief provide an even more comfortable and rejuvenating sleep.
- Octave Horizon provides the ultimate personalized sleep experience with thicker foam layers and an added layer of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam, which cushions and conforms to your body for your most comfortable night’s sleep ever. Its cover has the most moisture-wicking nanofibres of any Octave mattress, and its interior is meticulously engineered to give top-tier relief to your sore muscles and joints.
If you have any neck, back, or shoulder pain, [Octave] is the best bed you can buy. Once you work it in, it’ll curve to your body and you’ll be pain-free and have a great sleep.

Tried other mattresses in a box and this is by far the best. Also tried top-of-line Tempur-Pedic memory foam and the Octave is the sweet spot of affordability and function. Would purchase again.

Yes. Remove the top cover using the 360° zipper and run it through your washing machine on a gentle cycle. Then lay it out to air-dry, or run a low-heat or tumble-dry cycle in the dryer. You can reattach the clean, dry cover in seconds using the zipper.
What does the Octave warranty cover?
The 15-year Octave mattress warranty covers repair or replacement in case of manufacturer errors.
What happens to returned Octave mattresses?
Returned Octave mattresses are donated to nearby community organizations or picked up by a local recycling partner, depending on regional restrictions.
Where is the Octave Horizon mattress made?
Octave Horizon is made in Canada, with manufacturing facilities in Ontario.
Does the Octave Horizon mattress need a special frame?
Your Octave Horizon can use any supportive, untreated foundation, such as a solid box foundation, slatted base, or adjustable bed. Foam mattresses are heavier than innerspring and hybrid mattresses, so be sure your bed frame is sturdy enough to handle the extra weight. Octave sells compatible mattress foundations if you need one.
Is Octave Horizon eco-conscious?
Octave’s mattress cover and layers were independently tested to make sure they’re safe and eco-conscious.
- The top cover fabric was independently tested for harmful substances according to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® (SH025 194423).
- Each foam layer is CertiPUR-US® certified, meaning it meets high standards for emissions, content, performance, and durability.
How much does the Octave Horizon mattress cost?
Octave Horizon pricing ranges from $1,199 to $1,699, depending on the size you choose. A queen-size Octave Horizon is available for $1,499.
What makes Octave Horizon different from Octave Vista?
While the entry-level Octave Vista is an impressive mattress, Horizon is the most advanced mattress in the Octave lineup. This 14″ mattress has more layers and cooling features for a more rejuvenating rest.
In addition to the same layers as Vista, Horizon also includes more cooling nanofibres, a layer of aerated latex foam for better air circulation, and a layer of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam for extra cooling comfort. The thicker premium foam layers offer enhanced motion isolation and pressure-point relief so you can wake up feeling refreshed.
Octave Horizon is the highest-priced mattress in the Octave collection at $1,499 for a queen size, compared to $899 for Octave Vista. That said, Horizon still has a much lower price tag than other high-end mattresses with comparable features.
What makes Octave Horizon different from Octave Mirage?
As Octave’s mid-level mattress, Mirage offers advanced cooling, pressure-point relief, and motion isolation features, just like Horizon. However, Horizon has thicker premium foam layers for more pressure-point relief and enhanced motion isolation. It also comes with an added layer of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam for enhanced cooling and more cooling nanofibres in the top cover.
Octave Horizon is priced higher than other Octave models at $1,499 for a queen size, compared to $1,199 for Mirage. Still, Horizon is much more affordable than other premium mattresses with similar features—and it’s well worth the upgrade from Mirage.
