Product Details
Nectar sells three mattress models: Nectar, Nectar Premier, and Nectar Premier Copper. Nectar Premier is the mid-range option and has one more inch of gel foam than Nectar Original, which may be the reason for the $1,299 price tag—$400 more expensive than Nectar Original.
On its website, Nectar says the Premier mattress is “just right” at a medium-firm, and that its mattress is ideal for all sleepers. However, independent reviews are mixed on platforms like Reddit’s r/mattress forum. Some say it’s too soft and others say it’s too hard. Some reviews complain the mattress sags in the middle and along the edges after just a few months to a couple of years of use.
Instead, you might want to consider a mattress like Octave Vista, which has better cooling and pressure-point relief at a lower price of $899 for a queen.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Nectar ships by ground to your door, with free shipping and returns throughout the Canadian provinces. However, it isn’t clear who actually delivers your order. Nectar charges $150 per large item ordered to Northwest Territories and Yukon. The company doesn’t deliver to Nunavut. Regardless of where you live, you’ll want to factor shipping costs into your overall comparisons, as prices can vary.
Nectar’s website says it ships mattresses from one of its “many distribution centers located within the United States.” Expected ship times may vary by product, but the company says all mattress sizes are in stock and ship in 3–7 business days. It is unclear whether this includes dispatch and/or delivery time. Parent company Resident Home has a retail agreement with Leon’s, which has stores and distribution centres across Canada, so it’s unclear why Nectar doesn’t use Leon’s distribution network instead.
Once unpacked, the mattress takes up to 72 hours to fully expand. Nectar offers a 365-night sleep trial, which is better than the industry average. The company also offers a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you have the mattress. However, numerous customer complaints on Trustpilot noted issues with getting the warranty honoured.
Nectar Premier Mattress Construction
The company states the Nectar mattress comes with “5 Layers of Premium Materials,” but we don’t count the top and bottom covers in our reviews. The three mattress layers include one gel-infused memory foam layer, a conventional foam layer and a polyfoam base.
- Layer 1: The comfort layer is 3″ of plush gel memory foam that contours to your body, offering pressure-relieving support. Nectar Premier also contains ActiveCool HD phase-change material, which Nectar says reacts to your body’s temperature to help you sleep cool. Foam density is unknown.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 3″ of conventional foam that Nectar claims provides support, spinal alignment, and bounce. However, our independent testing showed that Nectar received a below-average bounce score of 2.2/10. The lower the bounce rating, the more difficult it may be to change sleeping positions. Foam density is reportedly 3.5 lb/ft³.
- Layer 3: The 7″ base layer is made of conventional foam, and Nectar says it has a density of 2.2 lb/ft³.
Our testing showed the mattress cover is made of polyester, nylon, and polyethylene. Although the cover has a zipper and an icon of a washing machine with the words “washable cover,” it’s best to spot-clean the cover only and not remove it. The company’s warranty policy says removing the mattress cover will void the warranty.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Edge Support
Nectar claims to provide consistent and firm edge-to-edge support. However, third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) doesn’t say the same. Nectar Premier tested very low for edge support at just 0.8/10. Nectar also has numerous one- and two-star reviews related to edge support, with one review saying their mattress edges were sagging after just seven months.
Good edge support helps you sit on the edge of the bed and stand up more easily. If you have mobility issues, especially hip and joint pain, you might want to try Octave Vista instead, which scored a much higher 7.5/10 for edge support.
6.0 /10
Motion Isolation
Nectar Premier ranks above average on motion isolation, with a score of 6.0/10. If you are a light sleeper and share a bed with a restless partner, a high degree of motion isolation is worth having. However, this score still has room to improve. You may want to look at a mattress with even better motion isolation, like Octave Vista with its score of 7.3/10.
2.2 /10
Bounce
Nectar Premier scored a below-average rating of 2.2/10 for bounce. This low rating means you may be more likely to sink into the surface and have difficulty moving around.
If you like to shift positions as you sleep, you may prefer a mattress like Octave Vista. It has a higher bounce rating of 3.7/10 and above-average motion isolation. This means you can move around easily as needed—without waking your partner.

Cooling Features
The Nectar Premier Mattress is a memory foam mattress with some cooling features that help you sleep cooler. The Nectar Premier Mattress earns points for its:
- Cooling cover with polyethylene fibres to avoid heat trapping and provide a cool-to-the-touch feel
- Phase-change material, which adapts to body temperature and prevents heat retention
- Gel-infused foam, which helps dissipate body heat
If you’re looking for a mattress with more advanced cooling features, consider Octave Vista. Vista is designed with a moisture-wicking cover with cooling nanofibres to pull sweat away from your body, ventilated foam to help with air circulation, and phase-change material that adapts to seasonal temperature changes. The memory foam layer also contains antimicrobial copper, which carries heat away from your body.

Company Background
DreamCloud Holdings introduced the Nectar Sleep online mattress brand in the US in 2017.
The Nectar brand has a proven history of making false claims about where its mattresses are made. In 2018, the company agreed to settle an FTC complaint for falsely claiming its Chinese-made mattresses were assembled in the USA. Under the terms of the FTC order, Nectar and its affiliated brands, including DreamCloud, are prohibited from making unqualified US origin claims except under certain strict conditions.
In 2019, DreamCloud Holdings rebranded to become Resident Home. However, the company has continued to run afoul of the FTC. In October 2021, the FTC ordered the company to pay $753,000 to settle charges that it made false, misleading, and unsubstantiated claims. In June 2022, the FTC ordered the company to Cease Made in USA Fraud, citing Resident Home as a repeat offender.
In July 2023, the FTC announced a final ruling against parent company Resident Home and affiliated brand DreamCloud for continued violations of the Made in USA act. As part of the ruling, Resident Home and its affiliated companies—including Nectar—are prohibited from making several claims that deceive consumers and harm law-abiding businesses. In spring 2023, the FTC began issuing refunds to as many as 12,000 consumers.
Nectar has a Trustpilot rating of “Average”. The company is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau but has only 3.19/5 stars at the time of writing. Together these profiles have hundreds of customer complaints about poor product quality, misleading sale prices, too-long delivery delays, and issues with returns and warranty claims.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Nectar Premier mattress cover machine washable?
No. While the Nectar mattress cover has a zipper and the cover tag indicates the cover is machine washable, it isn’t. Removing the mattress cover for any reason will void the warranty, per the company’s website. Instead, spot-clean any messes using the cleaning and care instructions on Nectar’s website. Nectar also recommends you buy and use their waterproof mattress protector.
What does the Nectar Premier mattress warranty cover?
Nectar’s “Forever Warranty” covers your mattress from manufacturer or material defects when the mattress is normally used and properly supported on a firm, solid base. This policy also discusses unexpected topics like dispute resolution, arbitration, class action, and jury waivers. It mentions a 30-day limitation period from the purchase date (not the delivery date) to opt out of binding arbitration in case of a dispute, which doesn’t account for shipping delays.
At the time this review was published, numerous BBB reviews complained that Nectar wouldn’t honour their sleep trial and forever warranty when trying to make a warranty claim or return a mattress. The company has also had over 400 complaints submitted by customers in 3 years, with almost 200 of them lodged in the last 12 months since the time of publication.
Looking to buy a mattress with plenty of five-star reviews, easy returns, and clear warranty coverage? Try Octave Vista risk-free during its 365-night sleep trial, and sleep soundly with its 15-year warranty.
Is the Nectar Premier sleep trial good?
Nectar promises peace of mind with its 365-night sleep trial. However, some customer reviews on Trustpilot say they couldn’t get Nectar to process their returns in a timely manner before the end of their trial. Reported issues include repeated phone calls and emails to customer service, reps asking for more and more photos, slow email responses, and more.
Octave Vista, a direct competitor, also comes with a 365-night sleep trial to test the mattress at home and make sure it consistently gives you your best night’s sleep—without the hassle or headache. Octave is a Canadian-based company, with fast and easy shipping and returns.
Does the Nectar Premier mattress sleep hot?
The company’s website promises “no more night sweats.” However, heat trapping is a common problem with memory foam mattresses. Nectar customers report being told their warranty is void because of environmental damage due to sweat from a too-hot mattress. Other customer complaints note the mattress can develop mould on its underside when exposed to moisture, which Nectar says will also void the warranty.
What happens to returned Nectar mattresses?
Nectar’s website says the company will work with the customer to donate the item to a local charity or otherwise dispose of it. Products must be in good condition to donate, with only normal wear.
Does the Nectar Premier mattress contain memory foam?
Memory foam is known for trapping heat, which is an important consideration if you or your partner sleep hot. The 3″ comfort (top) layer of Nectar Premier contains gel memory foam. Nectar says this layer offers pressure-relieving support while sleeping cooler than traditional memory foam.
Where is the Nectar Premier mattress made?
One section of the Nectar website FAQ states that Nectar Premier is made in Mexico. However, another FAQ section states that products are sourced and manufactured in places such as Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Mexico, and the USA. The phrasing suggests this may not be the full list of countries of origin.
The company has a history of misleading advertising for its “Made in USA” claims. In July 2023, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) found that Nectar’s parent company Resident Home was selling mattresses containing significant imported materials. This is contrary to sister company DreamCloud’s claim of being “proudly made with 100% USA-made premium quality materials.” The FTC charged Resident Home with false and misleading advertising. The company settled and agreed to refund more than 12,000 affected people in the US.
Does the Nectar Premier mattress need a special frame?
Nectar recommends using any of their foundations, bases, or adjustable frames. They don’t recommend placing the mattress on the floor, a plastic base, or any homemade foundation. In fact, Nectar’s “Forever Warranty” is void if the mattress isn’t placed on a proper bed frame.
Unfortunately, the warranty for the Nectar bed frame appears to be only 50 days, according to negative customer reviews. At the time of writing this review, there was a blank space on the Nectar website where the bed frame warranty was supposed to be.
Some customer have complained about mould developing on the underside of the mattress. This also voids the warranty. To help prevent mould, ensure as much airflow and ventilation as possible on the underside of the mattress while keeping it properly supported at all times.
How much does the Nectar Premier mattress cost?
Nectar Premier is priced at $899–$1,599, depending on which mattress size you choose. The queen-size Nectar Premier mattress is $1,299. It’s often on sale, but you have to read the fine print of each offer and compare features and benefits to make sure you’re getting the best value for your money.
If you’d rather save time and buy with confidence, consider Octave Vista. It has the same consistently low price every day of the year at $899 for a queen mattress. Octave Vista also comes with a free bedding bundle that contains pillows, sheets, and mattress and pillow protectors.
Are Nectar Premier mattresses good?
Nectar doesn’t have a Trustpilot rating in Canada. In the US, the company is rated “Average” with 61% of reviews giving the company one star.
Nectar Sleep in Canada is not listed with the Better Business Bureau. In the US, Nectar has a BBB rating of “A+” but has just 3.19/5 stars at the time of writing. Their profile has received hundreds of complaints about misleading sale prices, excessive delivery delays, poor mattress quality, issues with warranty claims, and the company not honouring its return policy.
What Nectar Premier mattress alternatives should I consider?
