Our Rankings
Edge support and motion isolation are factored into our overall mattress ratings. These scores are shown in green (scores of 5.0+), yellow (3.0–4.9), or red (2.9 and below). Firmness, bounce, and cooling features are a matter of personal preference and aren’t part of our rating system, so these scores are shown in grey.

Product Details
Lucid Memory Foam is a foam mattress available in three firmness options: Plush, Medium, and Firm. It’s also available in heights of 6″, 8″, and 10″. We purchased the 10″ Medium version from Amazon for this review.
However, after unboxing it, our Lucid mattress only expanded to 8.5″ in height. This may be because the mattress spent a long time in storage before being shipped to us. (The law label indicates that the mattress we received was two years old at the time of shipping.) There was also a small, unidentifiable blue stain on the cover.
This mattress has above-average edge support for a foam mattress and excellent motion isolation. Third-party testing also showed that the mattress is somewhat firmer than the medium feel advertised. In fact, Lucid scored 5.5/10 for firmness in third-party engineer testing, placing it in the medium-firm category. This may be linked to our mattress’s failure to expand fully.
The mattress cover is made of polyester, rayon, and cotton. Although it has a zipper, the cover isn’t meant to be removed and isn’t machine washable.
Some customers have complained that Lucid Memory Foam doesn’t fully expand once unboxed (as seen here and here), or started to sag and degrade soon after purchase (as seen here and here)
. Other reviews say the mattress arrived with mould on the bottom cover or developed mould soon after delivery (as seen here and here). This potential health risk is extremely concerning for a company that’s already known for issues with fiberglass in its mattress construction (as seen here, here, and here).
In April 2024, we received an email from a customer who purchased a Lucid in 2019. Her Lucid mattress contained fiberglass, which leaked when the cover was opened. As a result, she experienced health and financial issues. The mattress we purchased for this review did not contain fiberglass, but it’s important to keep this issue in mind when considering a mattress.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Lucid sells mattresses through their website, but only to customers in the United States. Canadian customers will need to purchase the mattress through third-party retailers like Amazon, Wayfair, or Walmart. For this review, we purchased Lucid Memory Foam through Amazon.
Amazon delivery times vary for international orders, and shipping may or may not be free. Your Lucid Memory Foam mattress should arrive at your doorstep in 4–8 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. If you live in a more remote part of Canada, though, delivery could take a bit longer. Having an Amazon Prime membership may reduce shipping time (and fees).
Amazon will only accept returns on unopened mattresses still in their original packaging. Unboxed and expanded mattresses are not returnable, meaning Lucid Memory Foam has no sleep trial for Canadians. Third-party sellers often have different return policies, so read the fine print on your order before confirming your purchase.
Lucid offers an industry-standard 10-year warranty for Lucid Memory Foam. This warranty covers manufacturing defects only. We contacted Lucid’s customer service chat on the Lucid website to ask whether their warranty policy was extended to their Canadian customers, but we received no response.
In comparison, Canadian budget mattress brand Juno provides a 15-year warranty. You also get a risk-free 120-night sleep trial and free pickup service with a full refund.
Lucid Mattress Construction
Lucid Memory Foam stands 10″ tall and has 3 interior foam layers. All foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified. Lucid does not disclose the densities of the foams used.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 2.5″ of ventilated cooling gel-infused memory foam. This layer provides cushioning so you don’t feel the denser transition and support layers below.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 1.5″ of transition foam. This layer prevents you from feeling the denser support layer below.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 5.5″ of dense bamboo charcoal-infused support foam. This layer is hypoallergenic, and the charcoal helps to absorb odour, keeping the mattress fresher for a longer period of time.
The mattress’s outer cover is 60% polyester and 40% viscose (rayon), while the interior is 100% cotton. Although the cover has a zipper, it isn’t removable or machine washable. Lucid recommends spot-cleaning stains only.
We ordered the mattress for this review in April 2024. The law label didn’t mention fiberglass, and the interior layers didn’t contain fiberglass, either. While it was safe for us to remove the mattress cover for the purposes of this review, some older (and possibly current) Lucid mattresses are known to contain fiberglass and the covers should not be removed for any reason.
In April 2024, we received an email from a customer who purchased a Lucid mattress in 2019. Fiberglass leaked from her mattress, and she experienced significant health and financial issues as a result.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
5.5 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Lucid had a deflection of 3.3″ when laid on, resulting in a 5.5/10 firmness score. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category. Since we purchased Lucid’s Medium version for this review, this mattress is slightly firmer than advertised.
(Shopping on a budget? Juno‘s 6.0/10 firmness score gives you a slightly firmer feel at the right price.)
6.8 /10
Edge Support
Lucid’s deflection from a seated position was 5.3″, resulting in a 6.8/10 edge support score. This is an above-average score for a foam mattress. That said, you might notice yourself sinking into the sidewalls a bit when sitting on the mattress edge or sleeping farther away from the middle of the bed.
(Take advantage of Juno‘s 8.0/10 edge support rating when you choose Canada’s favourite value foam mattress.)
8.1 /10
Motion Isolation
Lucid scored 8.1/10 for motion isolation. This is an above-average score, even for a foam mattress, which already has a reputation for good motion isolation. You shouldn’t notice much of your partner’s movements while sleeping on this mattress.
2.6 /10
Bounce
Foam mattresses are known for lower-than-average bounce scores. Lucid Memory Foam scored 2.6/10 for bounce, which is exceptionally low. Since you’ll sink more into the memory foam layer, you may have some trouble changing positions while you sleep.
2.7 /10
Cooling Features
Although not marketed as a cooling mattress, Lucid Memory Foam still uses cooling gel foam in its comfort layer—which is good since memory foam mattresses tend to trap heat. This particular mattress doesn’t have an abundance of cooling features, but it still gains points for its:
- Bamboo-derived rayon cover, which helps dissipate surface heat.
- Ventilated comfort layer for enhanced breathability.
- Cooling gel in the comfort layer for additional heat dissipation.
Considering Lucid Memory Foam is a budget mattress, its lower cooling score isn’t surprising. If you’re a hot sleeper, you might be better off looking for a bed that does more to keep you cool at night.
Company Background
Lucid was founded in 2010 and achieved early success in the bed-in-a-box industry through its own e-commerce website and partnerships with Amazon. The brand is owned by Malouf Companies™, which also owns the bedding company Linenspa. Although Lucid has been active for over a decade, it only maintains a rating of “B” (unaccredited) on the Better Business Bureau. Its unclaimed Trustpilot profile also has very few reviews.
Lucid has been known to have issues with fiberglass in its mattresses. In April 2024, we received an email from a customer who purchased a Lucid in 2019. Her Lucid mattress contained fiberglass, which leaked when the cover was breached. As a result, she experienced health and financial issues. The mattress we purchased for this review did not contain fiberglass, but this shows that the company has used fiberglass in the past.
In addition, other customer reviews indicate that Lucid often sags, degrades, or causes back pain relatively soon after purchase. It can also fail to expand fully (which we experienced). Most concerningly, many customers have said that their Lucid mattress arrived with a substantial amount of mould on the bottom cover, or developed mould soon after expanding (as seen here, here, and here). This can become an extreme health hazard.
Buy from a company that’s rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Lucid mattresses good?
Lucid mattresses are not a bad option if you’re shopping on a budget, but they leave out a lot of value that other budget mattresses offer. Juno, for example, also includes a cooling gel foam layer—plus a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, free shipping, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.
Where can I buy a Lucid mattress in Canada?
You can purchase a Lucid mattress via Lucid’s online store at Amazon Canada. You can also buy the mattress via authorized third-party retailers who work with companies like Wayfair and Walmart. However, Amazon has a strict no-return policy on mattresses that have been unboxed, and only a 30-day window during which the mattress can be returned.
Where are Lucid mattresses made?
Lucid mattress’s foam core is made in Spain, and the Lucid mattress cover is made in China.
Who makes Lucid mattresses?
Lucid mattresses are made by Malouf Companies™, which also owns the Linenspa brand.
Can you flip a Lucid mattress?
You shouldn’t flip your Lucid mattress. Like most modern mattresses, Lucid’s interior layers are designed to be oriented one way only. You can still rotate the mattress, though.
Are Lucid mattresses toxic?
Lucid mattresses for sale in Canada must meet provincial safety requirements before being marketed to the public. That said, many customers have complained that the mattress arrived with mould on the bottom cover or that it developed mould shortly after purchase (as seen here, here, here, and here).
Does the Lucid mattress have fiberglass?
The law label on the Lucid mattress we purchased doesn’t say that fiberglass is used in construction. However, Lucid has been known to manufacture mattresses with fiberglass in the past (as seen here, here, here, here, and here).
If the law label on your mattress lists fiberglass, glass fibers, silica fibers, or similar material in the mattress’s material list, do not remove the mattress cover.
What Lucid mattress alternatives should I consider?
If you’re on a budget, take a look at Juno. Affordably priced at just $499 for a queen size, Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty. You also get a free bedding bundle with your purchase. This saves you the hassle—and expense—of buying a new mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s).
