Product Details
Leesa Original stands 10″ tall and is available in a single firmness option. The product page on Leesa’s Canadian website describes it as medium-firm. However, Leesa scored 7.0/10 for firmness in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). This places the mattress in the firm category.
As is typical for most foam mattresses, Leesa has good edge support and motion isolation scores, but a relatively low bounce score. This seems to be the mattress’s main benefit. At a higher-than-average $1,569 for a queen size, Leesa’s only other notable attributes are a layer of cooling gel foam in its comfort layer and its breathable mattress cover.
The exterior cover on Leesa Original is 60% polyester and 40% rayon, while the interior is 100% cotton. According to the company’s website, Leesa mattresses are made without fiberglass. The cover uses chemical-free rayon instead to meet fire safety regulations.
Like most online mattress retailers, Leesa ships its mattresses rolled and compressed in a cardboard box. The box for the mattress used in this review arrived heavily damaged and torn in several places, although the mattress itself was intact.
Ideal For: Back Sleepers, Stomach Sleepers

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Leesa will deliver your mattress directly to your door via FedEx. Shipping is free for most regions in Canada, but additional fees may apply if you live in a remote area. It should arrive in 5–12 business days, including dispatch and delivery time.
The mattress will arrive rolled and compressed in a cardboard box. After unrolling and removing the protective plastic layer, the mattress will expand to its 10″ height within a few hours. However, the FAQ section on the company’s website states that Leesa mattresses might take a few days to reach their optimal firmness.
You have a 100-night sleep trial to determine whether or not you want to keep your Leesa Original after it arrives on your doorstep. However, you will need to wait 30 days before the company will accept your mattress for a return. Returns come with a full refund and free pickup service.
Leesa offers an industry-average 10-year limited manufacturer’s warranty. This warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials only. It doesn’t cover any damage the mattress receives while shipping, or any other incidental damage. This is concerning, given the state our mattress box arrived in.
Compared to competing mattress brands like Douglas, Leesa’s sleep trial and warranty period are only average. Douglas’s 365-night sleep trial gives you much more time to get to know your mattress before committing to a purchase. Its 20-year warranty also means your mattress is protected by the manufacturer for its full lifetime.
Leesa Mattress Construction
Leesa Original stands 10″ tall and has 3 layers of foam. All foam used is CeriPUR-US® certified. Leesa does not publicly disclose the densities of the foams used.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 2″ of cooling gel foam. This foam conforms the most to your body’s shape as you lie on the mattress, and actively wicks heat away from your body while you’re lying down.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 2″ of contouring memory foam. This denser middle layer also contours to your body’s shape, and prevents you from feeling the denser support layer below.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 6″ of high-density base support foam. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk, and stops you from sinking too deeply into your bed when lying down.
The exterior cover on Leesa Original is made of 60% polyester and 40% rayon, while the inside is 100% cotton. Although there’s a zipper, the cover can’t be removed and isn’t machine washable.
Consider Douglas with its layer of cooling gel foam and machine-washable cover.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
7.0 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Leesa had a deflection of 1.8″ when laid on, resulting in a firmness score of 7.0/10. This places the mattress in the firm category, making it notably firmer than the “relaxed firm” description for this mattress on Leesa’s American website.
This level of firmness can be comfortable for back and stomach sleepers. However, if you sleep on your side, you might notice pressure on your shoulder and hip.
(Looking for something a bit softer? Douglas Original‘s 6.7/10 firmness score translates to a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for all sleep styles, giving you the comfortable, restful sleep you deserve.)
7.0 /10
Edge Support
Leesa had a deflection of 5.1″ from a seated position, resulting in a score of 7.0/10 for edge support. This is a very good score for a foam mattress. You can sit on the edge or sleep farther away from the middle of the mattress without sinking too much into the sidewalls.
(Sometimes, a little extra support can make a big difference. Sit and sleep better with Douglas Original‘s 7.8/10 edge support score.)
7.2 /10
Motion Isolation
Leesa scored 7.2/10 on motion isolation in third-party testing, which is a very good score. You should be able to rest comfortably without noticing most of your partner’s nighttime movements.
(Need a mattress that does more to keep you from noticing your partner’s tossing and turning? With its motion isolation score of 8.3/10, Douglas Original helps you both sleep peacefully.)
3.0 /10
Bounce
Leesa scored 3.0/10 for bounce, which is a fairly low score. Because this mattress has a fair bit of “hug,” you may find you have trouble changing positions or getting out of bed.
(Douglas Original has a bounce score of 3.1/10 and a layer of responsive Elastex® foam, giving you low bounce with enough spring to easily get out of bed.)
2.4 /10
Cooling Features
Foam mattresses tend to be warmer to sleep on compared to other mattress types, especially if they contain memory foam. However, Leesa does have a few cooling technologies to help stop you from overheating. This mattress gains points for its:
- Breathable knit polyester/viscose cover, which promotes air circulation and heat transfer
- Cooling gel infusion in the comfort layer for enhanced heat dissipation
If you want a mattress with a moisture-wicking cover and better temperature regulation, consider Douglas Original. In addition to a layer of cooling gel foam, Douglas incorporates Elastex foam. Elastex is breathable and responsive, and allows for better air flow than memory foam. Douglas Original is available at just $799 for a queen size, compared to Leesa, which is almost double the price at $1,569.
