Product Details
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham is a 14.5″ tall hybrid mattress with a Euro-top construction, good motion isolation and edge support, and a firm feel. While firm mattresses may be suitable for back and stomach sleepers, they may be uncomfortable for side sleepers and put pressure on your shoulder and hip.
This mattress has a quilted Euro-top cover with gel fibre fill for a cool-to-the-touch feel. The cover isn’t machine washable and, according to the information on its law label, is likely made of viscose, polypropylene, and polyester fibres.
Customers on the Costco site have left reviews expressing concerns about the quality of the mattress, stating that their Kingsdown Passions Beckingham mattresses deteriorated and started sagging quickly after purchase. This is especially concerning because the mattress doesn’t come with an at-home sleep trial.
You must have a Costco membership to purchase Kingsdown Passions Beckingham from Costco. This purchase is subject to Costco’s standard return policy. The mattress is covered by a 10-year limited warranty. On third-party review sites like Better Business Bureau, customers have complained about Kingsdown not honouring their warranty policy.
If you’re looking for a mattress that provides more value, such as more advanced cooling features, for a similar price, check out Logan & Cove Frontier. Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Costco offers free shipping and “white-glove” delivery service, which includes mattress placement, setup, and removal of all packaging materials. Costco estimates that the mattress will arrive on your doorstep in 10-20 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. For an extra $75, they also provide their “haul away” service, where they will remove your old mattress for you.
While Kingsdown offers a 100-night sleep trial, Costco doesn’t. If you decide to return your Kingsdown mattress, Costco only provides a return pickup service for mattresses purchased online. Costco’s standard return policy applies, meaning your return has to be approved if you want your money back.
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham is covered by the manufacturer’s 10-year limited warranty. The warranty only covers normal wear and tear but not incidental damage, including while it’s being shipped to you. While returns are arranged with Costco, you will have to deal with Kingsdown to make a warranty claim.
It’s important to note that customers on third-party review sites like Better Business Bureau have mentioned issues with Kingsdown not honouring their warranty policy, with claims often being denied.

Kingsdown Mattress Construction
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham stands 14.5″ high and has 6 distinct interior layers. Costco doesn’t say whether any of these layers are CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The top layer is 1″ of quilted gel foam. This layer contours around your body while you’re lying down, and its cooling gel transfers heat away from your body.
- Layer 2: Working together with the top layer is another 1″ of quilted gel foam. Like the layer above, it conforms to your body and helps conduct heat away while you’re lying down.
- Layer 3: This layer is 1″ of Tri-Tech memory foam. It’s infused with gel, graphite, silver, and copper to add cooling and antimicrobial properties. This layer is also meant to promote pressure-point relief.
- Layer 4: The fourth layer is 1″ of unknown foam. No further details are provided for this layer on the Costco or Kingsdown websites, but it could be polyurethane, which is common in mattresses.
- Layer 5: Near the bottom of the mattress is a 9.5″ layer of individually wrapped coils with “full body surround.” This may refer to the foam layer that surrounds the pocketed coils for added edge support.
- Layer 6: The final layer is 1″ of unknown foam. It has a higher density to support the coils above and cushion them against your bed frame.
The mattress cover is made of viscose, polypropylene, and polyester fibres. Under the top cover is a layer of gel fibre fill, which offers a cool-to-the-touch feel and helps regulate body temperature throughout the night. The cover is not removable or machine washable. Spills and stains should be spot-cleaned only.
While the Costco site mentions some of the foam materials in the mattress, it provides limited information about what the mattress layers and cover are made of. Kingsdown also doesn’t share these details on their website.
Other mattress review sites mention the existence of latex in this mattress. However, there is no mention of latex on either the Costco website or the mattress’s law label. If this mattress does contain latex, it may be a potential risk for those with latex allergies.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.

7.3 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned) by us, Kingsdown Passions Beckingham had a deflection of 2.3″ under pressure, giving it a firmness score of 7.3/10. This places the mattress it in the firm category, despite being advertised as medium-firm. A firm mattress can be comfortable for back and stomach sleepers, but it’s not recommended for side sleepers.
(Logan & Cove Frontier‘s 6.3/10 firmness score hits the perfect balance between comfort and support for a good night’s sleep.)
8.0 /10
Edge Support
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham had a deflection of 4.2″ from a seated position, resulting in a score of 8.0/10 for edge support. This is an excellent score. You’ll be able to sit on the edge of this mattress with no issues. You also won’t need to worry about falling off the bed if you sleep closer to the edge.
7.4 /10
Motion Isolation
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham scored 7.4/10 for motion isolation, which is a very good score for a hybrid mattress. You shouldn’t notice most of your partner’s movements while you’re sleeping on this mattress. That said, you may notice larger motions, especially if they’re close to you.
5.6 /10
Bounce
Hybrid mattresses tend to be bouncier and “springier” than all-foam ones. Kingsdown Passions Beckingham earned a bounce score of 5.6/10, which is slightly above average for a hybrid. You shouldn’t have any difficulty changing positions on this mattress or getting up in the morning.
(Looking for a mattress with less bounce? Try Logan & Cove Frontier, which received a bounce score of 4.8/10.)
4.7 /10
Cooling Features

- Gel fibre woven into the top cover, which enhances heat dissipation and airflow
- Cooling gel foam under the quilted cover, which helps regulate body temperature
- Gel-infused memory foam infused with copper, silver, and graphite which promotes airflow and draws heat away from the body
- Gel foam layer above the coil base, which helps regulate body temperature

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Kingsdown mattress?
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham is a hybrid mattress sold through Costco. Other Kingsdown mattresses are carried and sold in Canada through third-party retailers like The Brick and Sleep Country Canada.
Kingsdown was founded in 1904 and is based in Mebane, North Carolina. Initially known as the Mebane Bedding Company, the business changed its name to Kingsdown in the 1970s. The company has operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Is Kingsdown a good mattress?
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). However, many customer reviews indicate that the “Plush” mattress is too firm, complaining that the mattress is a mislabeled medium-firm model. You also need a Costco membership to purchase this mattress.
We think you should check out Logan & Cove Frontier instead. Frontier has advanced cooling features such as cooling nanofibres and micro coils for added support. At $1,299 for a queen-size mattress, Frontier comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, full refunds with free return pickup, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.
How much are Kingsdown mattresses?
Kingsdown Passions Beckingham has a price range of $1,099–$1,599, and is available from twin to king size. The queen-size version costs $1,299.
Where do you buy a Kingsdown mattress?
At the time of this review, Kingsdown Passions Beckingham is only available through Costco. You will need a paid Costco membership to make a purchase.
Does the Kingsdown mattress have fiberglass?
No, Kingsdown mattresses sold in Canada do not have fiberglass. The law label on the mattress we ordered also didn’t list silica beads or related materials. Fiberglass is a common fire safety feature in mattresses made outside of Canada, especially less expensive ones. It can be a significant health hazard if fiberglass particles get outside of a mattress.

Where are Kingsdown mattresses made?
Kingsdown has operations across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. The Passions Beckingham mattress is made in Canada with domestic and imported materials.
Who makes the Kingsdown mattress?
Kingsdown mattresses are manufactured by Kingsdown. The mattress manufacturer is owned by Owen & Company, which was acquired by the private equity group Novacap. Kingsdown is based in the United States and has manufacturing plants there, as well as in Canada, Asia, and Europe.
How long does a Kingsdown mattress last?
Typically, a mattress should last as long as its warranty period. Depending on the Kingsdown mattress you buy and the warranty code tag it has, you could get anywhere from 1 year to 20 years of manufacturer coverage. Kingsdown Passions Beckingham has an industry-standard 10-year limited warranty, so they should last at least that long. That said, several customer reviews indicate that this mattress can begin to sag and degrade well before the end of its warranty period.
(In comparison, Logan & Cove Frontier comes with a significantly longer 15-year warranty.)
What Kingsdown mattress alternatives should I consider?
We think you’ll find better value in Logan & Cove Frontier. It has advanced cooling features, zoned support, and layers of individually pocketed coils and micro coils for added contouring and comfort.
