Edge support and motion isolation are factored into our overall mattress ratings. These scores are shown in green (scores of 5.0+), yellow (3.0–4.9), or red (2.9 and below). Firmness, bounce, and cooling features are a matter of personal preference and aren’t part of our rating system, so these scores are shown in grey.

Product Details
Helix Midnight stands 11.5″ tall. It’s advertised as having a medium level of firmness, but our third-party test results show it falls into the medium-firm category. According to the Helix website, the mattress has 5 layers of foam and coils. The mattress we received contained 5 layers, but the 1″ bottom layer of foam was not present. Instead, the bottom layer was a 1/8″ Tuftex-like fabric pad.
The mattress has excellent edge support and very good motion isolation. However, the base model only has a single cooling feature—a “breathable” mattress cover made of polyester, which isn’t naturally breathable. You can upgrade to a cooling pillow top cover, but this costs several hundred dollars extra. In either case, the cover is not removable or machine washable.
Helix Midnight comes with a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty. These are standard for the mattress industry. That said, competing Canadian mattress Logan & Cove Frontier offers a much longer 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty. It also has advanced cooling features that come standard with every mattress, all for just $1,299 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Helix Midnight ships to most regions of Canada, except for the Territories. You’ll need to pay $250 for shipping to Canada, no matter where in the country you live. This fee is applied on Helix’s order confirmation webpage. You should receive the mattress in 4–9 business days, including dispatch and delivery time.
Helix Midnight comes with a 100-night sleep trial. You’ll have the opportunity to return or exchange your mattress after the first 30 days have passed. The Helix website states that returns should be completed within three weeks of the initial request, and must be completed within 45 days after your sleep trial ends.
Helix will arrange for free return pickup and have the mattress donated to a local charity or recycling partner, if possible. You’ll receive a full refund once Helix gets confirmation that your mattress has been picked up.
Helix offers a 10-year warranty. This is standard for the mattress industry. The warranty covers manufacturing defects only, including the cover and interior of the mattress. As one of Helix’s optional add-ons, you can buy accidental damage coverage for just over $100 CAD (for a queen size). This covers food and beverage stains, bodily fluids from humans or pets (but not sweat or body oil), burns not caused by fire, and damage caused by the mattress’s coils.
Overall, Helix has a number of fees and restrictions for its shipping, delivery, and returns. In comparison, Logan & Cove Frontier ships anywhere in Canada. Shipping is free in most areas, with a shipping fee only applying to remote areas like the Territories. Logan & Cove also offers a risk-free 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty.
Choose Logan & Cove and get a 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty.

Helix Midnight Mattress Construction
Helix Midnight measures 11.5″ tall when unrolled and fully expanded. All foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified.
Midnight’s product page on the Helix website states that the mattress includes 5 layers. While the mattress we received has 5 layers, the 1″ bottom layer of DuraDense foam is missing. Instead, there is a different layer not advertised on Helix’s website.
- Layer 1: The 1″ top (comfort) layer uses Helix’s Memory Plus foam, which is designed to add plushness and pressure relief. This memory foam layer conforms to your body’s shape as you lie down. Foam density: 2.5–4.0 lb/ft³.
- Layer 2: The second layer uses 1″ responsive foam to contour to your body’s shape. This helps keep you from feeling the denser foam in the transition layer and coil layer below. Foam density is unknown.
- Layer 3: The third layer, which uses another 1.5″ of responsive foam, stops you from sinking too deeply into the mattress. It also insulates you against feeling the coils in the support layer below. Foam density is unknown.
- Layer 4: The fourth layer is made up of 8″ individually pocketed coils to provide full-body support. These coils give the mattress most of its bulk, and prevent you from sinking too deeply into the mattress. These coils are reinforced along the mattress sidewalls to provide edge support.
- Layer 5: The bottom (support) layer is 1″ higher-density foam that’s designed to support the coil layer. The mattress we received did not have this layer of foam. Instead, the bottom layer was a 1/8″ Tuftex-like fabric pad.
Helix Midnight’s Breathe Knit mattress cover is made of 100% polyester. It’s not clear where the “breathe” part comes from, since polyester isn’t naturally breathable and can trap heat. The mattress’s base model doesn’t come with any other cooling features.
Helix offers an optional upgrade to a GlacioTex™ pillow top cover. This uses a 50/50 blend of polyester and polyethylene to wick heat away from your body. Again, polyester isn’t known for its breathability. You’ll also be paying hundreds of dollars extra for this feature. If you’re a hot sleeper, that’s an expensive upgrade that still may not provide enough cooling to keep you comfortable.
Neither mattress cover is removable or machine washable. You’ll need to spot clean any spills or stains.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.3 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Helix Midnight had a deflection of 3.3″ when laid on, contributing to its 6.3/10 firmness score. This places it in the medium-firm category. The Helix website describes Midnight as having a “medium” feel, so you’ll find it firmer than advertised.
Looking for a medium-firm mattress with even more support? Logan & Cove Frontier’s 6.3/10 firmness rating, zoned support, and pressure-point relief help provide a restful night’s sleep.
8.5 /10
Edge Support
Helix Midnight had a deflection of 3.7″ from a seated position, earning it a score of 8.5/10 for edge support. This is an excellent rating. You’ll be able to sit on the edge of this mattress with no issues. You also won’t have to worry about falling off the bed if you sleep closer to the edge.
7.9 /10
Motion Isolation
Helix Midnight earned a score of 7.9/10 for motion isolation, which is a very good score for a hybrid mattress. You shouldn’t notice your partner’s movements while you’re sleeping on this mattress.
5.1 /10
Bounce
Helix Midnight earned a bounce score of 5.1/10. This is average for a hybrid mattress. You’ll sink into this mattress a little as you’re lying down, but you shouldn’t have difficulty getting up again.
1.8 /10
Cooling Features
Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress boasted to have customizable cooling features. However, these features require a paid upgrade. Helix Midnight earns points for its:
- Optional cooling cover, using polyethylene cooling yarn to draw heat away from the body
- Layer of pocket coils that improve airflow
If you’re searching for a mattress with more advanced cooling features, Logan & Cove Frontier does so at a lower price.
Frontier is a hybrid mattress with a cooling nanofibre cover, gel-infused foam, and layers of micro coils and individually wrapped pocketed coils for enhanced breathability. All of these features are standard in Logan & Cove Frontier at just $1,299 for a queen size. In comparison, Helix Midnight costs $1,965 for a base-level queen.
