Emma Hybrid Comfort is 13″ tall. It’s available in one medium-firm option, although third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) shows that this mattress is much firmer. Emma Hybrid Comfort has good edge support and performs above-average for motion isolation, but this is still a far cry from Emma’s claim of “zero motion transfer.”
Emma Hybrid has 5 layers, four with foam and one with individually pocketed coils. These coils are divided into 7 zones of ergonomic support. Unusually for a hybrid, the coil layer isn’t positioned at the bottom—it sits on top of a stabilizing foam layer.
The mattress cover is removable and machine-washable. It’s made of polyester and a small amount of elastane, and it’s designed to be breathable and moisture-wicking. While Emma calls this a “Pillowtop Cover,” it’s important to know that this is just a name—Hybrid Comfort is a tight-top mattress, not a true pillow-top.

Emma Hybrid Comfort has a machine-washable top cover made from a polyester/elastane fabric blend. Although it’s designed to be moisture-wicking and breathable, this cover doesn’t have the advanced cooling features that competing hybrids often have.

It hasn’t been completely smooth sailing for Emma. In 2022, The Guardian reported that Emma was being investigated by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for misleading customers with continuous “sales”. The CMA announced its ruling in July 2023 and described “detailed concerns.”
Judging by negative reviews on Trustpilot, customers are noticing Emma’s sales practices making their way overseas as the company tries to gain traction in Canada. Some Trustpilot reviews have also reported differing quality between Emma mattresses in Canada and in the UK.

Emma guarantees that its mattresses will last at least 10 years and offers a matching warranty. Given the overall lack of customer reviews online, it’s difficult to say for sure whether the mattress will last as long as advertised.
Emma has been investigated for its constant sales. In 2023, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) “found evidence that discount claims made by Emma Sleep did not stack up against the actual savings made by customers.” The CMA’s report concluded that only a small number of Emma Sleep products on its UK site were sold at full price, and that the company’s discounts put “unfair pressure on customers to make quick purchases.”
It’s not clear whether Emma mattresses contain fiberglass. To meet fire safety standards, Emma uses an interior lining made of 60% modacrylic and 40% silica. Fiberglass is often made from silica-based glass. While it’s possible that the silica in Emma’s mattresses could be free of fiberglass, it’s always best to check the law label on your mattress before removing the cover.
