Yes

Douglas Alpine stands 11″ tall and has the same 3 specialty foam layers as Douglas Original. However, each layer has been rebalanced to enhance certain comfort features.

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer includes 2.25″ of ecoLight® cooling gel foam to keep your body heat down. This layer is also equipped with Polar® Temperature Balancing, which further controls nighttime temperatures by absorbing your extra body heat during warmer nights and redistributing it on colder nights. Foam density: 2.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The transition layer features 2.25″ of resilient, supportive Elastex® foam. This foam is similar to latex, but it can be more comfortable if you have a latex allergy. Foam density: 1.85 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 3: The support layer is 6.5″ of motion-isolation foam. This layer makes up more than half of Douglas Alpine’s overall height—and helps eliminate nearly all disruptive movement across the mattress. Foam density: 1.85 lb/ft³.

Douglas’s exclusive CoolSense® cover is crafted from eco-friendly Infinitex™ fibres, which are derived from plants. This fabric effectively wicks moisture away from the mattress surface. It also prevents odours and keeps air moving between the mattress layers. Combined with the mattress’s cooling gel foam and phase-change materials, this breathable design helps your body maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night.

Mattress Performance Results

6.1 /10

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Alpine scored 6.1/10 for firmness. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category. This level of firmness is ideal for all sleep styles and is preferred by many Canadians. You’ll enjoy a good balance of comfort and support.

6.8 /10

Edge Support

Edge support is a valuable feature if you need a little help getting out of bed. While foam mattresses don’t typically excel in this category, Douglas Alpine bucks this trend. Our engineers awarded Douglas Alpine an above-average edge support rating of 6.8/10.

8.5 /10

Motion Isolation

Any movement on your bed’s surface can disturb your sleep, so it’s best to get a mattress with good motion isolation to avoid fatigue. Douglas Alpine is among our highest-scoring mattresses for motion isolation with 8.5/10. If you’re a light sleeper or you share your bed with a partner, Douglas Alpine is a solid choice for uninterrupted slumber.

3.6 /10

Bounce

Our independent testers give Douglas Alpine a bounce score of 3.6/10. This lower rating is consistent with other all-foam mattresses, which tend to absorb motion.

5.1 /10

Cooling Features

The Douglas Alpine mattress has even more advanced cooling technologies than Douglas Original with the addition of phase-change material. These combined features help the mattress adapt to your body’s needs without retaining excessive heat. Douglas Alpine earns points for its:

  1. CoolSense® cover that draws moisture away for a cool, dry feel
  2. Layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam that allows for enhanced cooling
  3. Phase-change material that adapts to body temperature and prevents heat retention
  4. Layer of Elastex, a breathable latex-like foam that ensures good air circulation

Douglas Alpine is an excellent all-around mattress with cooling upgrades—and it’s accessibly priced at just $999 for a queen size. (Need even more advanced cooling? Consider upgrading to Douglas Summit.)

Douglas is owned by GoodMorning.com, Canada’s largest independent online mattress retailer. The Douglas brand entered the bed-in-a-box market in 2017 and quickly became known for its high quality and low prices. Douglas has benefitted from the eight years’ worth of experience, engineering data, and customer feedback of its parent company’s first mattress, Novosbed (now Octave, Canada’s best cooling mattress).

The made-in-Canada brand positions itself as an eco-conscious alternative to other direct-to-consumer mattresses. All Douglas mattresses are manufactured in factories in Ontario and Alberta, most of which use primarily sustainable energy sources. The company uses eco-conscious materials, and its manufacturing process has a lower carbon footprint than many of its top competitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Douglas Original and Douglas Alpine?

Both Douglas mattresses share the same medium-firm feel and eco-conscious materials. However, Douglas Alpine stands out with improved cooling technology, motion isolation, and pressure relief. Its rebalanced layers also include more cooling gel, an extra inch of height for better joint cushioning, and Polar® Temperature Balancing for year-round comfort. These upgrades make Douglas Alpine a more advanced version of Douglas Original.

How does Douglas Alpine compare in price to similar mattresses?

Is the Douglas Alpine mattress cover machine-washable?

Yes. To clean your Douglas mattress cover, unzip the upper portion of the cover, run it through the washing machine on a gentle cycle, and air-dry or tumble-dry on a low setting. You can easily rezip the cover in seconds without lifting or moving the mattress.

Is the Douglas Alpine mattress environmentally conscious?

Yes. Among their many green policies, Douglas manufactures its mattresses with eco-conscious materials, including CertiPUR-US® certified foams. Any returned mattresses are donated to local charities rather than being sent to the landfill. For Eastern Canada orders, mattresses are also made using renewable energy.

You can purchase a Douglas Alpine mattress through Douglas.ca.

How much does the Douglas Alpine mattress cost?
