Amazon Budget Mattress With No Sleep Trial or Returns

Crystli is a Euro-top hybrid mattress with a medium-firm feel. While the mattress is made by US-based mattress company Crystli, it’s manufactured in Malaysia. It comes with 3 layers of memory foam and a support layer of steel pocketed coils. It has very good edge support and motion isolation, along with very high bounce.

Although Crystli is affordable at $369 for a queen size, it doesn’t come with a sleep trial. Amazon only allows returns for unopened mattresses. Crystli also comes with only an industry-standard 10-year warranty.

Many customers have complained about Crystli being of poor quality, sagging after a short period of time, and causing back pain. There are also numerous complaints about difficulties processing a warranty claim and contacting Crystli’s customer service department.

In comparison, budget mattresses like Juno offer more features for a similar price. Canadian-made Juno provides a generous 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle, all for just $499 for a queen size. Juno also has 5,400+ five-star customer reviews, and the company is rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

While you can return your Crystli mattress within 30 days of purchase for a refund, Amazon doesn’t accept returns for unboxed or expanded mattresses. Amazon may also deduct part of your refund as a restocking fee, even if the original shipping was free.

Many customers have reported challenges with Amazon’s return process for mattresses, as returns typically require you to bring the item to a warehouse or return facility. Unfortunately, as indicated by customer reviews, many post office locations don’t accept large items like mattresses.

Crystli comes with an industry-standard 10-year warranty. You’ll have to contact Crystli to initiate a return. According to reviews, frustrated customers have expressed difficulties with contacting Crystli or Amazon Support to start a warranty claim. We tried to contact Crystli through their website chat box to inquire about the mattress but never received a response.

In comparison, competitor mattress Juno offers a dedicated 120-night sleep trial, a longer 15-year warranty, and full refunds with free return pickup service. You can quickly reach Juno for support by phone, by email, or through the online chat feature on their website. The company is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau and “Excellent” on Trustpilot due to its good customer service practices.

Crystli is advertised as a “memory foam innerspring” mattress, but it qualifies as a hybrid because it has more than 2″ of material above the coil layer. It stands 10″ tall, has 4 layers, and has a Euro-top design. All foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified. However, Crystli doesn’t disclose the densities of the specific foams used.

  • Layer 1: The top layer is 0.5″ of open-cell memory foam infused with “pressure-relieving” gel. This layer conforms the most to your body’s shape while you’re lying down and dissipates your body heat.
  • Layer 2: The middle layer is 1″ of “Anti-Fire” foam. This layer is claimed to be coated with “fireproof substances.” Crystli doesn’t specify what these substances are or how they provide fireproof benefits.
  • Layer 3: The support layer is 1″ of high-density foam. This layer stops you from sinking too deeply into the mattress.
  • Layer 4: The last layer is 7″ individually wrapped pocketed steel coils. This support layer provides extra support under the hips and shoulders, as well as offering a bit of bounce while limiting motion transfer.

The Euro-top mattress cover and batting account for the remaining 0.5″ of height. According to the law label, the cover is made of 100% polyester, and the Euro-top batting consists of an unspecified foam. Crystli refers to their cover fabric as “Super Stretch” fabric and claims on their website that it is “natural and breathable.” However, polyester, while durable, is a synthetic material known for trapping heat. The cover isn’t removable or machine washable, so it should be spot-cleaned only.

The layer diagram on the Amazon product page also indicates the presence of a high-density base foam layer beneath the coils, as well as a “ventilated adjust foam” layer with ventilation zones to enhance airflow. However, upon cutting open and inspecting the cross-section of the mattress, we could not locate these additional layers. It’s unclear whether Amazon used a layer diagram for a different Crystli mattress model or if the advertised layers are absent in this particular mattress.

Mattress Performance Results

5.9 /10

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Crystli scored 5.9/10 for firmness. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category, which is suitable for all sleep types.

This mattress is on the softer end of medium-firm, closer to a “medium” feel. If you are a back or stomach sleeper, you may prefer a slightly firmer mattress.

(Looking for a slightly firmer mattress? Juno’s 6.0/10 firmness score makes it ideal for all sleep styles.)

6.5 /10

Edge Support

Crystli scored 6.5/10 for edge support. This is an above-average score for a hybrid mattress. You can sit on the edge of the mattress or sleep farther away from the middle without sinking into the mattress’s sidewalls.

(Need a mattress with more edge support? Juno‘s excellent 8.0/10 score gives you all the support you need.)

7.4 /10

Motion Isolation

Crystli scored 7.4/10 for motion isolation. This is a very good score for any mattress. You shouldn’t notice most of your partner’s movements when they change sleep positions.

7.6 /10

Bounce

Crystli scored 7.6/10 for bounce. This is higher than average, even for a hybrid mattress. This mattress will definitely help you spring to your feet when you get up in the morning, but you might find it too bouncy to sleep comfortably.

(Need a mattress with less bounce for a more restful sleep? Juno has a bounce score of 2.5/10, giving you a consistent sleep surface so you can sleep uninterrupted.)

Cooling Features

Crystli isn’t marketed as a cooling mattress, but it still has a few noteworthy features to help you sleep cool at night. This mattress earns points for its:

  1. Top cover, which Crystli says promotes breathability despite being 100% polyester
  2. Open-cell memory foam that allows for airflow and breathability
  3. Gel-infused foam that encourages enhanced cooling
  4. Pocketed coils that naturally provide good air circulation

Company Background

Unrated

Crystli is a mattress manufacturer that has been in operation since 2021. While the company is based in the US, Crystli mattresses are not manufactured there. The website doesn’t explicitly state where mattresses are produced, but box images suggest products are made in China. That said, the mattress we purchased was made in Malaysia, indicating the company may have manufacturing facilities in multiple countries.

Crystli sells its products in the US, Canada, and some European countries. Although their products are manufactured internationally, Crystli has a warehouse in Canada. If you purchase through Amazon or their website, the mattress will ship from this Canadian warehouse.

Crystli doesn’t have a BBB profile and has an unclaimed Trustpilot profile with no reviews and no rating. The Amazon shop page is the most reliable source for customer reviews. Crystli is an “Amazon’s Choice” brand and has over 6,000 reviews on the platform. However, many customers have reported concerns about product quality, back pain, issues with warranty/returns, and sagging after a short period of use.

Should You Buy Crystli?

Crystli is an affordable hybrid mattress that offers some advanced cooling features, above-average edge support, and good motion isolation. But its nonexistent sleep trial and restrictive return policy make it difficult to recommend. We think you should consider Juno instead.

At $499, Juno offers more value for a similar price point with its superior edge support, 120-night sleep trial, and 15-year warranty. You also have the option of free returns with a full refund during the trial period.

Juno comes in a wider range of sizes, including RV sizes, making it a budget-friendly option for your camper. Your purchase also includes a free bedding bundle with a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s), so your mattress is sleep-ready when it arrives at your doorstep.

Buy a mattress from the company that’s rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Crystli mattresses good?

Crystli performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), but we don’t recommend a mattress that doesn’t offer a sleep trial. You can only return Crystli within a narrow 30-day window after purchase, and Amazon won’t accept returns if the box has been opened. Crystli has the same policy, so you won’t get a trial if you buy directly from the brand. Typically, online mattress brands sold through their official websites offer a more flexible sleep trial.

Crystli mattresses come with a 10-year warranty, which meets the industry standard. However, many customers report difficulty reaching Crystli’s customer service to initiate warranty claims, as well as other issues. In some cases, customers have not received a response to their inquiries. We contacted the company about their mattresses and never received a response.

On the other hand, Juno offers a 120-night sleep trial, a longer 15-year warranty, and hassle-free returns with free pickup and a full refund. Every mattress purchase also comes with a free bedding bundle—something you won’t get with a Crystli mattress.

Where are Crystli mattresses made?

The law label on the Crystli mattress we purchased says it was made in Malaysia. However, some packaging images on Crystli’s website have a “Made in China” badge. Crystli’s Amazon store page also doesn’t say where the mattress was made. This could indicate that Crystli has several product manufacturers in various countries. You may only be able to determine where your mattress was made after you receive it.

Do Crystli mattresses have fiberglass?

While fiberglass is common in low-cost mattresses manufactured outside of Canada, Amazon states that this mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified, which means that it should not contain any fiberglass.

What is the Crystli mattress warranty?

Crystli comes with a manufacturer’s 10-year warranty. You will have to contact Crystli to make a warranty claim. However, this may be more difficult to do than expected. According to reviews on Amazon, many customers have found it hard to reach Crystli’s customer service team to start a warranty claim.

How do I return a Crystli mattress?

Amazon doesn’t allow returns for used mattresses. The company has a 30-day return policy for most items, but this only applies to unopened and unexpanded mattresses. You won’t be able to return the mattress after you’ve unboxed it.

What Crystli mattress alternatives should I consider?

We think you should consider Juno. It features a layer of cooling gel foam, a 120-night risk-free sleep trial, and a generous 15-year warranty. The mattress is available in a wide range of sizes, including multiple RV sizes, and is accessibly priced at just $499 for a queen size. You also get a free bedding bundle with your purchase for added value.

You can quickly reach Juno for support by phone, via email, or through the website’s online chat feature. The company has also received many positive reviews from customers across multiple third-party review sites, and is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.
