Product Details
The Casper is a 10″ memory foam mattress with a medium-firm feel. It features 3 layers and all foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified. The Casper only incorporates basic cooling features.
The Casper has above-average motion isolation, but its score wasn’t as high as Casper Original, the mattress’s previous version. This new iteration also lacks the zoned support found in Casper Original, which provided three ergonomic zones to keep your spine aligned.
Despite The Casper’s mattress cover having a zipper, Casper emphasizes that you should not remove the cover for any reason. This means the mattress cover isn’t machine washable and you’ll need to spot-clean any spills or stains.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Casper offers free shipping to most locations in Canada, and your order should arrive delivered in a box within 5–15 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. As is often the case with shipping within Canada, delivery to the Canadian territories isn’t free and may take longer than delivery to other regions. Casper also only currently delivers accessories to the Territories, no mattresses.

Casper offers an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. However, these timelines fall short compared to brands like Douglas, which offers a considerably longer 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty.
If you purchased The Casper from a different retailer, note that trial and warranty policies may not be the same from those offered directly by Casper. For example, Casper offers free return pickups for a full refund, but that won’t be the case if you purchased from Casper Canada’s parent company, Sleep Country. For precise details about trial returns and warranty claims, contact the retailer directly.

Casper Mattress Construction
The Casper stands 10″ tall and contains 3 layers of foam.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer includes 1″ of polyurethane foam, which uses open-cell perforations to enhance airflow. Casper says this feature promotes comfort and regulates body temperature during sleep.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 2″ of body-contouring memory foam. This supports your body and prevents long-term sagging in the middle of the mattress. Memory foam can be known to trap heat without added cooling features to increase airflow.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 7″ of dense polyurethane support foam. This foundational component maintains the mattress’s structure and support, ensuring that you won’t sink too far into the upper layers.
All foam used in The Casper mattress is CertiPUR-US®-certified. However, Casper doesn’t publicly share information about specific foam densities. Casper also says the cover on this mattress isn’t removable, even though it has a zipper, and should be spot-cleaned only.
Casper Original, the previous version of this mattress, provided zoned support beneath your back and hips. The Casper lacks this feature, meaning it may provide less mid-mattress support.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

6.3 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), The Casper had a 2.4″ deflection when laid on, resulting in a 6.3/10 firmness score.
This score places The Casper in the medium-firm category, which is suitable for all sleep styles.

7.5 /10
Edge Support
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), The Casper had a deflection of 4.6″ from a seated position, earning it a 7.5/10 score for edge support. This is a very good score, especially for a foam mattress. The Casper will provide good support if you sit on the edge or sleep closer to the edge of the mattress.
(Need a little extra edge support? Try Douglas Original, which has an edge support score of 7.8/10.)
6.6 /10
Motion Isolation
The Casper scored 6.6/10 for motion isolation, which is above-average for a memory foam mattress. This means that you’ll be able to sleep without noticing most of your partner’s movements (and vice versa).
(Want even greater motion isolation? Consider Douglas Original with its outstanding score of 8.3/10.)
4.7 /10
Bounce
The Casper scored 4.7/10 for bounce, making it just average when compared to other memory foam mattresses. You should find it easy to change sleep positions because of its decently responsive feel.
(Looking for a little less bounce? Douglas Original has a bounce score of just 3.1/10, paired with its high motion isolation score for undisturbed sleep.)

2.5 /10
Cooling Features
The Casper isn’t designed as a cooling mattress, but it does have a couple of basic cooling features worth noting. This mattress earns points for its:
- Open-cell foam in the comfort layer, which is more breathable than closed-cell foam
- Perforations in the comfort layer, which promote better airflow
If you’re looking for a good all-around mattress with more cooling features at a better price, check out the competing Douglas Original. At just $799 for a queen size, Douglas comes with a washable CoolSense® cover to wick moisture away while you sleep, plus a layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam and a layer of breathable, responsive Elastex® foam.

Company Background
Founded in New York City, Casper first emerged in 2014 as an early North American bed-in-a-box brand. The company expanded its product lineup over the years with substantial funding from organizations like the Target Corporation and celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher.
Casper went public in 2020 but was taken private again in 2022 after a stock collapse. Also in 2022, Casper shut down its European operations, focusing exclusively on the North American market. In 2023, Casper sold its Canadian operations to Sleep Country Canada, and in 2024, after attempts to stop losing money, its US operations were acquired by one of its suppliers, Carpenter Corporation.
Today, the company offers mattresses, bedding accessories, and home decor. Products are sold online, through branded retail stores, and through Sleep Country locations in Canada. Their mattresses are sometimes accompanied by rotating sales or deals that may include free sleep accessories.
Although Casper has separate American and Canadian operations, the brand has one combined Trustpilot page, which rates it as “Poor” (based on over 6,000 customer reviews). On the Better Business Bureau, Casper’s American profile is rated “A+” (unaccredited), but has a customer review rating of just 1.17 out of 5 stars. Casper does not have a Canadian BBB profile, but its parent company Sleep Country Canada has a customer review score of just 1.27/5 on BBB, and is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot.
Where Casper makes its mattresses depends on whether you buy in Canada or the USA. Casper Canada makes most of its mattresses in Canada, with select models manufactured in the US. We have received Casper mattresses made in Canada, the United States and Mexico. The label of each mattress has information about where it was manufactured.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Casper mattresses good?
Casper mattresses are popular, but they don’t offer many of the features you might expect to see for the comparatively higher price tag. We think you’ll get more value out of Douglas. At just $799 for a queen size, you get better edge support, superior motion isolation, more cooling features, and even a free bedding bundle with purchase. You also get a 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty for more time to get to know your mattress.
Can I wash The Casper mattress cover?
No. Even though The Casper’s mattress cover has a zipper and the company says it doesn’t use fiberglass, Casper cautions you not to remove the mattress cover for any reason. This means The Casper’s mattress cover is spot-clean only.
How much does The Casper mattress cost?
The Casper costs $999–$1,999, depending on the size you choose. For example, a Casper queen mattress costs $1,499, while a Casper king mattress costs $1,999. The Casper is available in sizes ranging from twin to California king.
Unlike brands such as Douglas, Casper doesn’t produce mattresses in RV sizes.
Does the Casper mattress have fiberglass?
According to the FAQ page on Casper.com (Casper’s American website), certain Casper models contain fiberglass to meet fire safety regulations in the United States.
While these fire regulations don’t apply in Canada, there is no public information on Casper’s Canadian site, Casper.ca, regarding whether or not their mattresses also contain fiberglass. We followed up with Casper Canada representatives, who confirmed that any Casper mattress ordered and delivered in Canada will be fiberglass free.
The Casper mattress we received did not contain fiberglass. We’d recommend reaching out to Casper’s support team if you need more information.
Where are Casper mattresses made?
Casper Canada makes most of its mattresses in Canada, with select models manufactured in the US.
Where can you buy a Casper mattress in Canada?
Casper Canada sells its mattresses through the Casper website, at its Sleep Shop locations, through its parent company Sleep Country, and through other third-party retailers.
Does The Casper mattress need a box spring?
The Casper is best used with a box spring, foundation, or other solid base, according to the brand’s website. In the case of using a slatted base, Casper recommends the slats being at least 2.5″ wide, and no more than 3″ apart.
Can you flip a Casper mattress?
No. The Casper only works as advertised if the mattress is positioned right side up, with each layer in the correct order. However, Casper mattresses can and should be rotated every few months to help spread out regular wear across the mattress.
Can you sleep on a Casper mattress right away?
Yes. The foam requires a few minutes to expand once it’s been unboxed, but you should be able to sleep on the mattress the same night.
What Casper mattress alternatives should I consider?
We recommend buying Douglas Original instead. At just $799 for a queen size, Douglas Original offers more features for almost half the cost of The Casper. It comes with a machine-washable cooling mattress cover, superior motion isolation, greater edge support, a longer sleep trial and warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.
