High-Priced Cooling Hybrid Mattress

Casper Snow is a hybrid mattress made in the United States. It has advanced cooling features like perforated foam, phase-change material, and cooling yarn in the top cover. This mattress also has zoned support and notably good motion isolation. Casper Snow is available through Casper’s website and at Sleep Country Canada.

At $2,999 for a queen size, Casper Snow is much more expensive competitor mattresses that offer similar features. For example, Octave Horizon has advanced temperature-regulating technology and five-zoned support, providing the ultimate comfort for a restful, satisfying sleep—for half the price at just $1,499 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Casper offers free shipping to most locations in Canada. Your order should arrive on your doorstep within 5–15 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. These terms apply whether you buy from the Casper website, a third-party retailer like Sleep Country, or one of Casper’s brick-and-mortar Sleep Store locations. Delivery to the Canadian territories will cost extra and may take longer than shipping to other regions.

Casper offers an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. However, these timelines fall short compared to brands like Octave Horizon, which offers a much longer 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty.

If you buy Casper Snow from a different retailer, note that trial and warranty policies may not be the same as those offered by Casper. For example, Casper offers free return pickups for a full refund. But if you buy from Sleep Country, expect to pay a $65 exchange fee and only receive store credit. For more details about returns and warranty claims, contact the retailer directly.

Casper Snow stands 12″ tall. While Casper’s website seems to indicate that the mattress contains 3 layers, it actually contains 5 layers of foam and coils. All foam used in Casper Snow is CertiPUR-US®-certified. However, Casper doesn’t publicly share foam density information.

  • Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer uses 1″ polyurethane foam, which uses Casper’s AirScape Technology to increase airflow. Casper doesn’t explain what this technology is or how it provides cooling benefits.
  • Layer 2: The second 1″ foam layer has zoned support and uses Casper’s HeatDelete Bands (which are made of metal foil) and phase-change material to help keep you cool as you sleep. While phase-change material is effective at temperature control, it’s not clear how the HeatDelete foil provides any cooling benefit.
  • Layer 3: The third (transition) layer uses denser 2″ foam to prevent you from feeling the coil layer beneath. This layer isn’t listed on the product page on Casper’s website.
  • Layer 4: The fourth (support) layer is made of 6.5″ individually pocketed flex coils, which are encased in a layer of dense foam around the edge. The support layer stops you from sinking too far into the mattress.
  • Layer 5: This 1″ bottom foam layer provides a foundation for the coil layer above and prevents the coils from damaging your foundation. This layer also isn’t listed on the product page on Casper’s website.

The mattress cover accounts for the remaining 0.5″ in height. According to the company website, Casper’s mattress covers are made using recycled polyester, upcycled cotton, rayon, and lycra (spandex). Casper Snow’s cover also uses specialized cooling yarn.

In our experience, polyester and lycra aren’t known for their cooling. Polyester isn’t naturally breathable and can trap heat. Lycra also doesn’t have cooling properties and can reduce the breathability of other fabrics. While Casper Snow’s cooling yarn may help keep temperatures down, the other materials in the cover may affect how well it does so.

Although the mattress cover has a zipper, Casper strongly advises against removing it for any reason. The cover isn’t machine washable.

Get a cooling mattress with a machine-washable cover. Consider Octave instead.

Mattress Performance Results

During testing, our mannequin weighs 170 lb and measures 5’5″ tall.

5.9 /10

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Casper Snow had a deflection of 3.8″ when laid on, giving it a 5.9/10 firmness score. This places the mattress in the medium-firm range, meaning it strikes a balance between comfort and support. Medium-firm mattresses are ideal for most sleep styles.

During testing, our mannequin weighs 170 lb and measures 5’5″ tall.

6.5 /10

Edge Support

Casper Snow had a deflection of 6.5″ from a seated position, earning it a 6.5/10 edge support score. this is above-average for a hybrid mattress. Casper Snow has more support than some other mattresses while you’re sitting on the edge, or sleeping further away from the middle of your bed.

Need a little extra support at the edge of your mattress? Consider Octave Horizon with its higher edge support score of 6.8/10.

7.9 /10

Motion Isolation

Casper Snow scored 7.9/10 for motion isolation. This is a very good score for a hybrid mattress. You and your partner shouldn’t notice each other moving around as you sleep.

3.0 /10

Bounce

Casper Snow scored 3.0/10 for bounce, which is a notably low score for a hybrid. Because this mattress has a fair amount of “hug,” you may find it difficult to change positions while you sleep.

Need a mattress that’s a little more responsive? We suggest Octave Horizon with its bounce score of 3.8/10.

Cooling Features

Casper Snow is a cooling hybrid mattress that features Casper’s Snow Technology. This technology uses components that work together to move heat away from the body and keep sleepers cool throughout the night. Casper Snow earns points for its:

  1. CoolTouch™ cooling cover engineered with specialized cooling yarn to remove heat
  2. Perforated foam with air vents for added breathability
  3. Phase-change material that adapts to body temperature and prevents heat retention
  4. Foil-covered HeatDelete™ bands placed between layers, which Casper claims will pull heat away from your body
  5. Individually pocketed spring coils that allow for increased air circulation

While Casper Snow has excellent cooling features, it comes with a hefty price tag of for a queen size. If you’re looking for a cooling mattress that offers more cooling features for half the price, consider Octave Horizon instead.

Company Background

“A+”

“Poor”

Casper first emerged in 2014 as an early North American bed-in-a-box brand. The company expanded its product lineup over the years with substantial funding from organizations like the Target Corporation and celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher. Today, the company offers mattresses, bedding accessories, and home decor.

Based in New York City, Casper went public in 2020 but was taken private again in 2022 after a stock collapse. Casper also shut down European operations in 2022 and now exclusively operates within the US and Canada. In 2023, Sleep Country acquired the rights to Casper’s Canadian operations.

While the company is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot and “A+” on Better Business Bureau, Casper only has 1.09/5 stars for customer reviews on BBB at the time this review was written. Several negative Casper mattress reviews mention warranty issues, poor customer service, delivery problems, and other concerns.

Should You Buy Casper Snow?

Casper Snow offers competitive cooling features and above-average motion isolation. But it lacks basic features like a machine-washable cover, and the brand’s sleep trial and warranty are only average. This makes it hard to justify the high price point. We recommend Octave Horizon instead.

Octave Horizon provides even more advanced cooling features, an innovative five-zoned support system for ergonomic support, and layers of premium foam for the perfect cushioning to reduce muscle tension, helping you enjoy a refreshing night’s sleep.

Octave Horizon comes with a generous 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. It even has a machine-washable cover. This premium memory foam mattress is competitively priced at just $1,499 for a queen size—half the price of Casper Snow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Casper Snow mattress good?

Casper Snow offers competitive features, including advanced cooling and zoned support. But the relatively high price tag ($2,999 for a queen size) makes it significantly more expensive than similar Canadian mattresses with the same features. Because Casper Snow is made in the USA, its price includes high government tariffs that raise the price without adding any additional value.

We think you’ll get more value with Octave Horizon. This Canadian memory foam mattress also offers cooling and zoned support for a fully restorative night’s rest, but at half the price of Casper Snow—just $1,499 for a queen size. You also get a machine-washable cover, a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.

How much does Casper Snow cost?

Casper Snow costs $2,199–$3,499, depending on the size you choose. It’s available in sizes ranging from twin to California king. A queen-size Casper Snow costs $2,999.

Is the Casper Snow mattress cover machine washable?

No. Casper states that Casper Snow’s mattress cover is not machine-washable. It should only be spot-cleaned, and its cover should not be removed for any reason.

Where are Casper mattresses made?

Casper manufactures its mattresses in Georgia and Pennsylvania, USA.

How do I return a Casper mattress?

Casper requires you to try Casper Snow for at least 30 nights before returning it. After that point, you can contact Casper to arrange a free mattress pickup before the 100-night sleep trial ends. The company will give you a full refund.

Note that return policies may vary if you purchase Casper Snow from a different retailer. For example, Sleep Country only allows exchanges and will charge a $65 exchange fee.

What Casper Snow mattress alternatives should I consider?

We recommend Octave Horizon instead. At $1,499 for a queen size, Horizon offers better pressure-point relief and advanced cooling features at half the price of Casper Snow.

Horizon comes with a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover that pulls sweat away from your body and 5 premium layers, including copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, aerated latex foam with hundreds of breathable vents, ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam, and multi-zone support foam with integrated air channels to offer advanced temperature regulation and enhanced pressure relief to reduce muscle soreness. You also get a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle.
