Product Details
Bloom River is the Bloom brand’s lowest-priced mattress. Although the Bloom River we received was made in Spain according to the law label, a Sleep Country representative confirmed to us that Bloom mattresses are made in numerous countries, such as China, Spain, and Canada.
Like many budget-friendly mattresses, Bloom River is designed to fit a strict budget. It comes with some advanced features like a layer of bamboo charcoal–infused and convoluted foam. Sleep Country mentions that this layer promotes air circulation and helps manage odours.
While Bloom River has an attractive price of $499 for a queen size, you won’t receive a refund if you return the mattress. You can only exchange the mattress for in-store credit, with an exchange fee of $65. You’ll also have to pay the difference if you exchange Bloom River for a more expensive mattress.
Finally, Sleep Country doesn’t offer home pickups for returns, so you’ll have to bring the mattress back to the store yourself.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Sleep Country handles shipping for its own products across most of Canada. Your order should arrive at your doorstep within 3–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. Bloom River arrives in a cardboard box. After removing the two layers of plastic wrap, we found that Bloom River takes a couple of hours to expand to its full 7″ height.

You have a 100-night sleep trial to decide if you want to keep your Bloom River. This is an average sleep trial length. However, if you return your Bloom mattress, you must pay a $65 exchange fee and will only receive in-store credit—no refund. Given Bloom River’s low price point, you may pay more money to exchange it for a different mattress.
The mattress comes with a 5-year warranty. This is the shortest warranty of any Bloom mattress. In comparison, the industry-standard warranty length is 10 years.
Sleep Country, Bloom’s parent company, has garnered a BBB rating of “A+” (unaccredited) despite having a customer review score of 1.28/5. The company is also rated “Poor” on Trustpilot.
Competing brands like Juno offer a 120-night trial. If you return your Juno within the trial period, you’ll get a free mattress pickup with a full refund. Juno also backs their product with a 15-year warranty.
Juno’s parent company, GoodMorning.com, is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot, and maintains a rating of “A+” with the BBB, with a customer review rating of 4.89/5 stars.
Want a mattress with a longer sleep trial and warranty? Consider Juno instead.

Bloom Mattress Construction
The Bloom River mattress measures 7″ tall and has 3 layers of foam.
- Layer 1: Bloom River’s comfort layer is 0.75″ of gel memory foam. This layer is designed to provide immediate comfort when you lie down and keep you cool throughout the night.
- Layer 2: The mattress’s transition layer is 2.5″ of convoluted foam. This layer has a distinctive egg-carton shape, which creates air channels that allow warm air to escape.
- Layer 3: The third and final layer of Bloom River is 3.75″ of support base foam. Infused with bamboo charcoal to help manage odours, this base layer creates the mattress’s structure.
Sleep Country states that the top cover is machine washable, and is made of “double jacquard antimicrobial fabric.” However, according to the law label of this mattress, the cover is made of polyester fibre, so it is unclear how it provides antimicrobial properties. The interior of the mattress is protected with a rayon fire barrier.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
7.2 /10
Edge Support
Bloom River earned an edge support score of 7.2/10. This is a very good score for a foam mattress. You should be able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed.
5.8 /10
Motion Isolation
Foam mattresses are known for their above-average motion isolation. Bloom River earned a motion isolation score of 5.8/10, which is about average compared to other foam mattresses.
If you are a light sleeper, and having good motion isolation is important to you, you may prefer competing foam mattress, Juno, which has a higher motion isolation score of 6.2/10.
3.3 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Foam mattresses tend to offer a slower response time, translating to a lower bounce score. Hybrid mattresses with coils tend to be more bouncy and have a high response to pressure since they’re easy to switch positions and move around on.
Bloom River scored 3.3/10 for bounce. This is on the lower end, but is about average for a foam mattress.

2.2 /10
Cooling Features
Bloom River is promoted as a budget mattress, not a cooling mattress. However, it does provide some advanced cooling features to help with temperature regulation. Bloom River earns points for its:
- Top layer of gel-infused foam that allows for enhanced cooling
- Convoluted (egg carton shaped) foam for improved airflow
- Charcoal infusion for odour management, which also helps draw heat away from your body
If you’re looking for an affordable mattress with a higher cooling features score, take a look at Juno instead, which scored 2.4/10. Juno comes with a layer of cooling gel foam that reduces heat buildup and allows for enhanced airflow. You can also upgrade to the optional Cool+ cover crafted from special cooling yarn, which keeps surface temperatures low.
