Amazon Mattress Made in Cambodia

The BedStory hybrid mattress is available on Amazon and retails for $459 for a queen size. BedStory ships their mattresses across Canada, the United States, and other countries.

The mattress we purchased was made in Cambodia. However, country of origin is not stated on the company’s website or on Amazon. Some customers thought they were ordering a Canadian mattress because of the red maple leaf on the mattress tag. The mattress we received was also boxed for 4 months before we placed our order. These factors affected the mattress’s overall rating.

If you’re shopping for a Canadian-made mattress, consider Juno. Juno is a medium-firm foam mattress that retails for $499 for a queen size. With a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a readily available support team based in Canada, Juno gives you better value and peace of mind for your purchase.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

While Canadians can browse the BedStory website, purchases must be made through third-party retail affiliates like Amazon and eBay. The mattress for this review was purchased from Amazon. You’ll need an Amazon account to purchase a mattress, but not an Amazon Prime subscription. Free shipping is provided to most Canadian locations. However, shoppers in remote destinations may be subject to an additional shipping fee.

BedStory mattresses should arrive at your door in 2–7 business days. The mattress we purchased arrived in 5 days and came from Calgary, although the shipping label said the box originated in Cambodia, where BedStory manufactures its mattresses. The mattress we received was packed 4 months before it was ordered, which can greatly affect a mattress’s comfort, performance, and longevity. The BedStory website even agrees. This is one reason for the mattress’s low overall rating.

The BedStory hybrid mattress we purchased from Amazon isn’t featured on the BedStory site at the time of writing this review. BedStory states that sleepers receive a 30-night trial with their mattress. Amazon doesn’t normally honour sleep trials but seems to allow one for BedStory. That said, Amazon requires customers to ship back any returns within 30 days of receiving the mattress. Some customers have stated they were unable to return the mattress because of size and cost limitations, resulting in them not getting their money back.

The 10-year industry-average warranty that BedStory offers with its mattress also seems to have a mixed success rate. Some customers were able to complete a warranty claim, while other customers never received a response from the company. The BedStory warranty doesn’t cover physical damage to the structure of the mattress, like stains or liquid damage. This is unfortunate because our mattress arrived stained. Another customer on Amazon shared a similar experience, with their mattress also arriving dirty.

It’s difficult to find customer reviews on BedStory mattresses, with their most reviewed mattress on-site having just 16 reviews. The 12″ BedStory hybrid has 300+ reviews on Amazon, with a mix of positive and negative experiences. You’ll need an Amazon account to read past the first page of reviews.

If you’re looking to buy from a Canadian company with more reviews, consider Juno. Juno makes its mattresses in Canada and has 7,100+ customer reviews, with 5,400+ being five-star reviews. The company is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB.

No

The BedStory hybrid mattress features layers of memory foam and coils. It has 4 layers in total. The Amazon listing for this mattress says it has 6 layers, but no layer diagram is provided. Bedstory does incorporate a very small amount of poly fill in the top cover of the mattress, but we don’t consider that—or the top cover—to be a layer.

  • Layer 1: The first foam layer in the BedStory hybrid mattress is 0.25″ of an unspecified memory foam.
  • Layer 2: The mattress’s next comfort layer is 0.5″ of a different unspecified memory foam.
  • Layer 3: This transition layer is around 1.5″ of another unspecified memory foam.
  • Layer 4: The bulk of this mattress and its support system is its 9″ pocketed coil layer. BedStory says the perimeter of the mattress uses reinforced coils for added edge support.

For a Euro-top mattress, BedStory’s comfort and transition layers are relatively thin. You may feel the metal coils beneath your body. Depending on how long your mattress was boxed, these coils could have been compressed for too long and may not expand to their full height. In fact, numerous customers on Amazon have left reviews saying their mattresses did not inflate to the advertised height of 12″.

BedStory’s polyester mattress cover is not removable or machine washable. You will need to spot-clean any spills. Although the company describes the mattress as having a breathable top cover, polyester isn’t typically known for its breathability. You may notice overheating when sleeping on this mattress.

Mattress Performance Results

6.8 /10

Firmness

When tested for firmness by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the BedStory hybrid mattress received a score of (6.8/10. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category, which is ideal for most sleep styles.

(Looking for a slightly softer mattress? Juno scored a 6.0/10 for firmness, which is still medium-firm, giving you a touch more comfort when you lie down.)

7.5 /10

Edge Support

BedStory earned a score of 7.5/10 for edge support. This is a very good score and is likely due to the use of reinforced coils around the mattress’s perimeter. Typically, an edge support score in this range helps you feel secure on the edge of your mattress and prevents you from sinking into the sidewalls.

However, many customer reviews on Amazon mention BedStory having overly soft edges, resulting in them rolling off the side or sliding off the edge. This suggests that BedStory’s mattresses may not provide consistent edge support, or the stronger coils could wear out faster than expected.

(Want more edge support in mattress? Juno earned a higher score of 8.0/10, allowing you to sit comfortably on the edge of the mattress without fear of sliding off.)

7.4 /10

Motion Isolation

Mattresses with coil systems aren’t always known for their motion isolation in the same way that foam mattresses are. However, the combination of memory foam and pocketed coils can help keep motion transfer to a minimum.

That was the case for the BedStory hybrid mattress, which earned a very good motion isolation score of 7.4/10. You won’t feel most movement from the other side of the bed, helping you sleep undisturbed.

6.5 /10

Bounce

Bounce in a mattress is a matter of preference. A higher bounce level can make it easier to change positions while you sleep, while a lower level of bounce creates a consistent sleep surface.

BedStory received an above-average bounce score of 6.5/10. While this may be preferred by combination sleepers, it might not be the best fit for light sleepers who are easily woken.

(For a more consistent surface and a sounder sleep, consider Juno with its much lower bounce score of 2.5/10.)

Cooling Features

If the BedStory hybrid mattress incorporates cooling features, these features aren’t listed on the BedStory website or Amazon product page. That said, this mattress earns a small number of points for its:

  1. Layer of individually pocketed coils, which allows for airflow throughout the mattress

If you’re on the hunt for a mattress that will sleep cooler, you may prefer Juno. It earned a cooling features score of 2.4/10, thanks to its layer of cooling gel foam that helps dissipate body heat. You can also upgrade to the optional Cool+ cover, which features specialized cooling yarn for a more comfortable sleep.

“Great”

BedStory sells mattresses, mattress toppers, and bedding accessories in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, and France. The company says it has sold its products in more than 90 countries.

The founders have been involved in the sleep industry since 1983, according to their website, with the company name being registered in 2018. However, Canadian shoppers aren’t able to purchase BedStory products directly from the company’s website. Instead, BedStory has approved third-party retailers to sell their products, such as Amazon and eBay.

Information about BedStory is not readily available. It’s not clear who founded the company or who currently owns it. There are also conflicting details on where the business is located. On their website’s contact page, an address in Guangdong Province, China is listed. The company’s LinkedIn page lists a location in Washington, D.C. as its primary address—even though a pin is dropped in Colombia. BedStory’s Facebook page shows an address that suggests they’re located in Sacramento, California.

Despite varying information about the location of company headquarters, BedStory mattresses seem to be mainly manufactured in Cambodia. This isn’t clearly stated on the company’s website or on third-party site product pages. The lack of information resulted in confusion and disappointment for some BedStory customers who thought they were getting a Canadian mattress.

Overall, it’s not 100% clear what you’re getting when you purchase a BedStory mattress—or who made it.

Should You Buy BedStory?

At $459 for a queen size, BedStory mattresses are affordably priced. However, BedStory lacks cooling features and has a shorter-than-average sleep trial. The mattress we ordered was also boxed for several months, and the company didn’t disclose that it was made in Cambodia.

We recommend Juno instead. Juno is available at a slightly higher price of $499 for a queen size but delivers much more value. It comes with a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. Juno also provides greater edge support and more advanced cooling features.

In addition to having thousands of reviews from verified customers, the Canadian company is also rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot. The same can’t be said for BedStory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are BedStory mattresses good?

The 12″ hybrid BedStory mattress we reviewed scored well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). This mattress is affordable and may be a good option for sleepers looking for a budget hybrid mattress.

However, BedStory offers limited transparency on where their mattresses are made. This left some customers disappointed, as the maple leaf on the mattress suggested they were getting a mattress made in Canada. Reviews also indicate product quality may not be consistent from mattress to mattress, meaning you may receive a defective product. The return and warranty process aren’t customer-friendly, with some customers reporting they couldn’t return their product or get their money back.

If you’re looking for a quality affordable mattress, we recommend Juno instead. Priced at $499 for a queen size, Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. Juno is made in Canada and has 5,400+ five-star reviews. Its parent company is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB, giving you peace of mind with your purchase.

Where are BedStory mattresses made?

The BedStory mattress we purchased was made in Cambodia. Some customer reviews on Amazon stated they were under the impression the mattress was made in Canada, due to the red maple leaf on the cover. These customers were left disappointed after seeing the manufacturing location listed on the law label.

BedStory doesn’t disclaim where their mattresses are manufactured on their website or on their third-party seller sites like Amazon. It’s unclear whether all their mattresses are made in Cambodia, or if they use various manufacturing locations.

Who makes BedStory mattresses?

It’s difficult to find information about the BedStory company. The mattress we purchased was manufactured in Cambodia and shipped to Calgary, Alberta, four months before we placed our order. There isn’t any readily available information about the owner of the BedStory company, and there are conflicting reports of where the company is headquartered.

Does BedStory mattress have fiberglass?

According to the BedStory website, none of their mattresses contain fiberglass.

How long does it take for a BedStory mattress to expand?

While most bed-in-a-box mattresses expand almost instantly after removing their plastic wrapping, BedStory suggests leaving your mattress for 48–72 hours before sleeping on it. This gives the mattress enough time to fully expand fully. However, some customers have complained that their mattresses never expanded to the correct height or had deformities.

Where can I buy a BedStory mattress?

BedStory sells its mattresses on its website and through third-party retailers like Amazon and eBay. However, in Canada, purchasing a mattress on the BedStory website isn’t an option. You’ll be redirected to Amazon to complete your purchase, and you’ll need an Amazon account to do so.

What BedStory mattress alternatives should I consider?

While the BedStory hybrid mattress is reasonably priced, you may prefer the Canadian brand Juno instead. Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. You’ll also receive free shipping, as well as free returns with a full refund if you decide to return the mattress. At just $499 for a queen size, Juno offers more value than BedStory for a very similar price.
