Product Details
Beautyrest Imperial Granite is an older model from the Beautyrest Imperial Collection, while the 2025 update is called Beautyrest Zero Granite. According to a Sleep Country Canada chat agent, the newer version has an even firmer feel, a different mattress cover, and slight construction differences, such as a “Beautyrest® Max Gel Band” for extra lumbar support. Beautyrest Imperial Granite is still available at Best Buy in limited sizes.
Imperial Granite is 12″ tall and has 5 layers. It has a very firm feel, which may be suitable for some stomach and back sleepers, as well as heavier sleepers. On the other hand, if you are a side sleeper or have a lightweight body, you could notice pressure points in your hips and shoulders.
This mattress performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). It has above-average motion isolation and excellent edge support due to the high-resilience foam used in its comfort layer. Imperial Granite also has a very high bounce score, even for a hybrid mattress.
The Imperial Granite mattress is advertised as having a SleepCool™ cover made with TENCEL™ fibres, but the law label doesn’t explicitly list these components. This means the materials most likely account for less than 1% of the mattress’s total composition. However, Beautyrest Imperial Granite does contain other basic cooling features, such as a layer of latex and pocketed coils, which help to create a more breathable mattress.
Imperial Granite is one of the lower-priced Beautyrest options on the market. Still, there are competitors that offer more generous policies and additional features, like Logan & Cove Choice. Logan & Cove Choice offers similar cooling features and zoned ergonomic support. The company also provides free shipping to most areas in Canada, 365-nights risk-free to try the mattress at home, and a longer 15-year warranty.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Note: Beautyrest Imperial Granite was available in Canada through Sleep Country but has been updated and renamed Beautyrest Zero Granite. You may still be able to find Imperial Granite through some mattress resellers and third-party retailers like Best Buy. We purchased this mattress from Sleep Country, so the information in this section is specific to Sleep Country’s delivery, sleep trial, and return practices.
We purchased the Beautyrest Imperial Granite mattress from Sleep Country Canada for this review. Sleep Country provides free shipping for orders over $75 to most Canadian locations, with mattresses arriving at your door in 3–10 business days. For customers in Newfoundland and Labrador or the Canadian Territories, shipping takes 7–10 business days and costs $120. After your mattress arrives, you’ll have 100 nights to decide if it’s the right fit for you. This sleep trial length is standard for the mattress industry.
However, if you decide to return the mattress during the trial period, you won’t receive a refund. Instead, you’ll have to exchange the mattress for in-store credit after paying a $65 exchange fee. If you exchange for a less expensive model, any remaining balance must be spent on other Sleep Country products. Yoou’ll need to pay the difference if you choose a more expensive mattress.
Sleep Country also doesn’t provide return pickup. This means you’ll need to transport the mattress back to the store yourself—even if you bought it online and there isn’t a Sleep Country location near you.
This mattress was delivered fully expanded and wrapped in a sheet of plastic. While this is standard practice for expanded mattresses, it does present a risk of damage to the mattress during shipping. This is important to note since the Beautyrest warranty doesn’t cover any damages to the cover fabric.
Beautyrest’s manufacturer’s warranty can vary based on the specific code on your mattress tag. This requires cross-referencing with their warranty documentation. Imperial Granite’s law label said it falls under warranty code A, which is an industry-standard 10-year warranty. However, Simmons, Beautyrest’s parent company, has received numerous BBB complaints about product quality and warranty claims.

Beautyrest Mattress Construction
Beautyrest Imperial Granite is a hybrid mattress. It’s advertised as being a 12″ mattress; however, the mattress we received stood only 11″ tall. It has 5 layers. The foams used in this mattress are CertiPUR-US® certified, according to a Sleep Country agent.
- Layer 1: This mattress’s first layer is 0.5″ of polyester batting, which provides a cushioned plush feel.
- Layer 2: The second layer is 0.5″ of latex foam, which is a breathable, open-cell material that should provide good pressure-point relief.
- Layer 3: The next layer is 2″ of high-density unspecified foam, which provides an overall firm feel and support to the mattress.
- Layer 4: The fourth layer is 7.5″ of pocketed coils. The coils are individually pocketed to enhance motion isolation and provide contouring support.
- Layer 5: The second layer is 0.5″ of unspecified foam, which acts as a support layer under the coils.
According to the product details listed on Walmart and Best Buy’s websites, this mattress should include two layers of titanium strands in the “centre third of the mattress.” This would account for the Double Titanium Lumbar Support™ listed as a component of the mattress. However, we could not find these strands upon inspection. It’s not clear whether the strands are infused into the foam layers and not visible, or if they’re just not present.
The Beautyrest Imperial Granite mattress is said to feature a SleepCool™ cover made with TENCEL™ fibres for enhanced breathability. However, the mattress’s law label states that the top cover is composed of 88% polyester and 12% recycled polyester—materials not typically known for breathability. If this mattress cover contains these fibres, the materials account for less than 1% of its total composition.
The cover is non-removable and not machine washable, so stains or spills should be spot-cleaned.
Get a mattress with a thicker comfort layer and a balanced medium-firm feel.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

8.3 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Beautyrest Imperial Granite scored 8.3/10 for firmness with a deflection of 1.3″. This places the mattress well into the firm category. The mattress has a 2″ high-density foam layer that likely accounts for this extra-firm feel.
You might find this mattress to be very supportive if you’re a back or stomach sleeper. However, if you are a side sleeper or have a lightweight body, you could notice pressure points on your shoulders and hips. This is a common consideration with any firm mattress.
(Looking for a medium-firm mattress that’s suitable for all types of sleepers? Logan & Cove Choice scored 6.9/10 for firmness, ensuring a balance between plush comfort and robust support.)

9.3 /10
Edge Support
Beautyrest Imperial Granite scored 9.3/10 for edge support with a deflection of 2.9″. This is an excellent score for any mattress and can be attributed to the Imperial Granite’s high-resilience foam layer beneath the initial layers. You can sit on the edge of this mattress or sleep farther away from the middle without sinking in.
7.0 /10
Motion Isolation
Beautyrest Imperial Granite scored 7.0/10 for motion isolation. This is a very good score for a hybrid mattress. You shouldn’t notice most of your partner’s movements when they change sleep positions.
(If you’re a light sleeper who needs even higher motion isolation, consider Logan & Cove Choice with its motion isolation score of 7.5/10.)
8.4 /10
Bounce
Beautyrest Imperial Granite scored 8.4/10 for bounce. This is a very high score for any mattress. This mattress will help you spring to your feet when you get up in the morning. That said, you might find it’s also highly responsive to movement, and you could notice more sleep disruptions as a result.
(Need a mattress with less bounce for an undisturbed sleep? Try Logan & Cove Choice with its lower bounce score of 5.8/10.)

3.6 /10
Cooling Features
Beautyrest Imperial Granite is advertised as having some cooling properties to help you sleep cool at night. This mattress earns points for its:
- SleepCool™ cover made with TENCEL™ fibres, intended to provide enhanced breathability and a cool sleep surface
- Latex foam layer with an open-cell structure that allows for breathability
- Titanium strands in the centre third of the mattress (not mentioned on the law label), which can conduct heat away from your body
- Layer of pocket coils for breathability and airflow
Looking for a lower-priced hybrid mattress with a similar level of cooling? Consider Logan & Cove Choice with its cooling feature score of 4.4/10. Its top cover is designed with cooling nanofibres, breathable hollow fibre, and gel-infused foam, while its internal layers include more gel foam, open-cell foam and individually wrapped steel pocketed coils. These cooling features come at a much lower price of $999 for a queen size.

Company Background
The Beautyrest brand is owned by the Simmons Bedding Company, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1870, Simmons developed and sold its first Beautyrest mattress in 1925, using a design featuring individually wrapped wire coils. Simmons is a subsidiary of Serta Simmons Bedding, along with sister company Serta International. Serta Simmons Bedding filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2023.
The company is rated “F” (unaccredited) with the BBB and has a customer review score of 1.79/5 stars. The Beautyrest brand specifically has a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot.
Since Beautyrest Imperial Granite is available through Sleep Country Canada, it’s important to research this company, too. The business has a lower-than-average reputation on consumer trust sites like Trustpilot, where it’s rated “Poor” and over 50% of reviews are one star. Sleep Country’s BBB page is rated “A+” (unaccredited), but the company’s star rating is just 1.27/5 stars. Complaints from customers include customer service and warranty claims.
Choose a mattress company that’s rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Beautyrest Imperial Granite a good mattress?
Beautyrest Imperial Granite is a hybrid mattress that performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). It has some advanced cooling features, excellent edge support, and above-average motion isolation. However, it only comes with a 100-night sleep trial and is priced higher than similar hybrid mattresses.
You may prefer a more accessibly priced hybrid mattress like Logan & Cove Choice instead. The company offers a generous 365-night sleep trial, a longer 15-year warranty, free shipping to most areas in Canada, and hassle-free returns with free pickup and a full refund. Every mattress purchase also comes with a free bedding bundle—something you won’t get with a Beautyrest mattress.
Which Simmons Beautyrest mattress is the best?
The best Beautyrest mattress depends on individual sleep preferences, budget, and desired mattress type. Based on third-party engineer tests (commissioned by MattressReviews.ca), the Imperial Granite performed the best among the Beautyrest models we’ve tested with an overall rating of 3.4. However, it’s challenging to crown a single “best” Beautyrest mattress since models are introduced and discontinued regularly.
Who makes Beautyrest mattresses?
The Beautyrest brand is owned and manufactured by Simmons, a subsidiary of Serta Simmons Bedding LLC.
Are Serta and Beautyrest the same company?
Serta and Beautyrest are separate mattress brands, but they are both owned by and operate under the same parent company, Serta Simmons Bedding (SSB).
Can you flip a Beautyrest mattress?
No, you shouldn’t flip a Beautyrest mattress. Like most modern mattresses, Beautyrest mattresses cannot be flipped because they are designed as one-sided, no-flip mattresses.
Do Beautyrest mattresses have fiberglass?
No, Beautyrest mattresses sold in Canada do not have fiberglass. The law labels on the Beautyrest mattresses we purchased don’t mention silica or other glass materials. Beautyrest mattresses also don’t tend to have fire socks, which is where fiberglass is typically found.

Do Beautyrest mattresses need box springs?
While you don’t need to use a box spring with your mattress, Beautyrest mattresses require you to use a warranty-approved mattress base or box spring that’s compatible with the mattress. Otherwise, you run the risk of voiding your warranty.
According to the Beautyrest warranty card (available online), you should use a rigid, non-yielding foundation. This could be a matching Beautyrest base, a platform bed with slats no more than 2″ apart, or a frame with at least 5 hardwood or metal slats and legs added to the 3 centre slats.

What Beautyrest mattress alternatives should I consider?
We think you should consider Logan & Cove Choice as a Beautyrest Imperial Granite alternative. It has very good edge support and motion isolation, along with an even higher score for cooling features. Logan & Cove Choice also comes with a 365-night risk-free sleep trial, a generous 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle, all for just $999 for a queen size.
Logan & Cove has also received many positive reviews from online customers. The company is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau (with a star rating of 4.89/5) and is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot.
