Product Details
Amerisleep AS3 is 12″ tall and is available in both foam and hybrid versions. We purchased the foam version for this review, which has 3 interior layers. This version of Amerisleep AS3 has a medium-firm feel, above-average edge support, and very good motion isolation. However, it has a very low bounce score, and relatively few cooling features.
Amerisleep’s key feature is the HIVE® transition layer, which is somewhat similar to convoluted foam. This layer has a foam structure similar to an egg carton, which is designed to provide targeted pressure-point relief and zoned support. The HIVE® technology is engineered to be firmer under the back and hips for extra support, but softer under the shoulders and feet.
The Amerisleep AS3 mattress cover is made from a blend of polyester, polypropylene, high-density polyurethane, and a small amount of Spandex. The cover is not machine washable, so spot cleaning is recommended. Amerisleep claims this cover helps reduce body temperature by converting heat to far infrared energy, although they don’t explain how the cover achieves this.
This mattress is notably heavy for a foam mattress, weighing 95 lb for a queen size. If you buy this mattress, you may need someone to help you move it into place.
In addition, product prices on Amerisleep’s Canadian website are listed in USD, not CAD, even on the store checkout page. If you’re thinking about buying Amerisleep AS3, make sure you convert the final sale price to CAD so you know how much you’re paying.

Amerisleep Mattress Sizes & Prices
Note: Original prices on the Amerisleep website are in USD. Every two weeks, we check these prices and convert them to CAD for easy reference.
Note: The Amerisleep website doesn’t state the weight of each AS3 mattress size. With the exception of the queen size, the numbers shown here are approximations provided by an Amerisleep customer service agent. However, the law label on the queen-size AS3 mattress we received stated that the mattress filling weighs 95 lb—almost 10 lb more than the 88 lb estimate provided. This weight has been shared accordingly.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Amerisleep ships internationally via FedEx. Mattresses typically arrive at your door within 10–15 business days including dispatch and delivery time, and will likely incur cross-border shipping fees and duties. The mattress arrives in a compact cardboard box, vacuum-sealed and wrapped in plastic for protection. The company says it might take up to 24 hours for the mattress to fully expand after unboxing.
You’ll have an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial to test Amerisleep AS3. If you decide the mattress isn’t right for you, Amerisleep requires that you wait at least 30 nights before initiating a return. Returns are straightforward, with Amerisleep arranging for the mattress to be picked up from your home at no additional cost.
The Amerisleep AS3 comes with a 20-year limited manufacturer’s warranty, which covers any defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover incidental damage, misuse, or changes in the mattress’s comfort due to normal wear and tear. The warranty is prorated, which means coverage decreases over time. After the first 10 years, you’ll have to pay a percentage of the original purchase price to replace the mattress.
In comparison, competitor mattress Douglas Original arrives in 2–10 business days, and delivery is free. It also comes with a longer 365-night sleep trial, and its 20-year warranty isn’t prorated—you’re covered for the entire length of the warranty.

Amerisleep Mattress Construction
The Amerisleep AS3 is an all-foam mattress that stands 12″ high and is composed of 3 distinct interior layers. While Amerisleep highlights additional features in their marketing, we focus on the core layers that make up the mattress.
All foams used in the Amerisleep AS3 are CertiPUR-US® certified. Amerisleep does not publicly disclose the specific densities of the foams used in this mattress.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer consists of Bio-Pur® foam, a plant-based memory foam that is designed to be more breathable and responsive than traditional memory foam. This layer adapts to your body as you lie down while maintaining a cooler sleep environment.
- Layer 2: The second (transition) layer is Amerisleep’s HIVE® technology. The wavy pattern of the foam layer resembles an egg carton, and is engineered with zoned support to offer targeted pressure point relief.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is made out of Bio-Core® foam, a high-density base foam that provides stability and durability to the mattress. This dense layer prevents excessive sinking, ensuring that the mattress maintains its shape and support over time.
The Amerisleep AS3 mattress cover is made from a blend of polyester, polypropylene, high-density polyurethane, and a small amount of Spandex. The cover is not removable or machine-washable, and should be spot-cleaned only.
The manufacturer claims that this cover can help you sleep up to 7°F (~4°C) cooler at night by converting your body heat into far infrared energy. However, Amerisleep doesn’t explain how this technology works.
Buy the mattress with advanced cooling and a machine-washable cover.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
5.7 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the Amerisleep AS3 mattress had a deflection of 3″ when laid on, giving it a 5.7/10 firmness score.
This puts it on the softer side of medium-firm, and is somewhat firmer than the “medium” feel advertised, but makes this mattress suitable for all sleep styles. That said, you may find that it’s a little too soft if you’re a side sleeper.
(You deserve a mattress with the perfect balance between comfort and support. Douglas‘s firmness score of 6.7/10 gives you exactly that.)
6.8 /10
Edge Support
Foam mattresses often don’t have good edge support, but Amerisleep AS3 had a seated deflection of 5.5″, giving it a 6.8/10 score. That’s above-average for a foam mattress. You’ll notice a little extra sinkage when sitting on the side of this mattress or when sleeping further away from the middle, but not a lot.
(Looking for a foam mattress with better edge support? Consider Douglas Original, which has an edge support score of 7.8/10.)
7.3 /10
Motion Isolation
In third-party testing, Amerisleep AS3 scored 7.3/10 for motion isolation. This is a very good score for a foam mattress. You won’t notice your partner changing sleep positions or your pet moving around much while you’re sleeping.
(Want a mattress with better motion isolation? Douglas Original‘s motion isolation score of 8.3/10 keeps you from noticing movements that disturb your sleep.)
3.0 /10
Bounce
In third-party testing, Amerisleep AS3 scored 3.0/10 for bounce. Low bounce is typically tied to higher motion isolation, especially in foam mattresses. You’ll notice a fair degree of sinkage and “hug” while lying down on this mattress.
3.7 /10
Cooling Features
Amerisleep AS3 isn’t marketed as a cooling mattress, but it does have a few cooling features worth mentioning. This mattress earns points for its:
- Breathable Refresh Cover, which the company says will help keep you up to 7°F (roughly 4°C) cooler at night.
- Open-cell plant-based Bio-Pur® foam, which the company says is more breathable than regular foam.
- HIVE® transition layer, which has an open structure similar to convoluted foam.
In comparison, competitor mattress Douglas Original has more advanced cooling technologies to help you avoid sleeping hot, including a machine-washable cover made with plant-based Infinitex™ fibers. It also has ecoLight® cooling gel foam and hypoallergenic Elastex latex substitute foam for added heat dissipation, giving you a cool, comfortable night’s sleep.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Amerisleep a good mattress?
Amerisleep AS3 performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), but it’s more expensive than similar foam mattresses while offering less value. It also comes with a longer-than-average delivery time and cross-border shipping fees.
We think there’s more value in Douglas. This Canadian-made mattress ships to your door faster, and for free. Featuring a longer $799-sleep trial, a 20-year non-prorated warranty, advanced cooling technologies, and a machine-washable cover, Douglas Original offers you more value at a lower price of just 365 for a queen size. Your purchase also comes with a free bedding bundle that includes a free sheet set, pillow(s), mattress protector, and pillow protector(s).
Does Amerisleep ship to Canada?
Yes, Amerisleep ships to Canada via FedEx. Shipping takes 10–15 business days, and additional fees for international shipping will likely apply.
Where can I buy an Amerisleep mattress?
You can buy an Amerisleep mattress directly from the company’s website. However, prices listed are in USD, not CAD—even on Amerisleep’s product checkout page. That means you could end up paying a lot more than you intend. If you’re thinking about buying Amerisleep AS3, make sure you convert the final sale price to CAD (like we did) so you know how much you’re paying.
What does the Amerisleep warranty cover?
Amerisleep’s 20-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Incidental damage, like any damage caused during shipping, is not covered. For the first 10 years, Amerisleep will repair or replace the mattress at no additional cost. For the 10 years after that, the company will replace your mattress for a portion of its original cost.
How do I return an Amerisleep mattress?
You can return your Amerisleep mattress during the 100-night sleep trial by contacting the company’s customer service division. If you return your mattress during the first 30 nights of the trial, you’ll have to pay a $99 processing fee.
