Which Is Better: Simmons or Juno?

Juno and Simmons are both budget foam mattresses priced under $500 for a queen size. Both mattresses have some cooling features and are made in Canada. However, that’s where the similarities end. Only Juno comes in a wide range of sizes with a 120-night sleep trial, a generous 15-year warranty, and free shipping and returns.

Recognized as Canada’s Best Affordable Mattress by MattressReviews.ca, Juno offers a layer of cooling gel foam and an optional Cool+ cover with special cooling yarn. It also provides excellent edge support, above-average motion isolation, and a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for all sleep styles. And with a free bedding bundle with your mattress purchase, it’s no contest—Juno is the clear winner.

Mattress Breakdown

When comparing the Simmons vs Juno mattresses, Juno has a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for all sleep styles and positions. It offers more cooling features, a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, free shipping, and easy returns with full refunds. Your purchase also comes with a free bedding bundle, so that your mattress is sleep-ready when it arrives.

In comparison, the Simmons Gel Memory Foam mattress has a firm feel, which is preferred by some back and stomach sleepers. However, a firm mattress might cause pressure points for side sleepers and those with lighter body types. While Simmons has good edge support and motion isolation, it doesn’t come with a sleep trial when purchased through Costco (which requires a paid membership). The mattress also comes with only an industry-standard 10-year warranty. If you purchased your Simmons mattress in-store and want to return it, you will need to bring it back to the store yourself.

The business’s online reputation is also important to consider when you’re buying a mattress. Serta Simmons Bedding—Simmons’s parent company—is rated “F (unaccredited)” on BBB and “Poor” on Trustpilot. In comparison, Juno’s parent company is rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

To help you choose between Juno vs Simmons, we’ve gathered all the information you need to accurately compare these two Canadian mattresses.

Firmness

According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Juno falls into the medium-firm category with a firmness score of 6.0/10. This makes it ideal for all sleep styles, offering a well-rounded combination of support and comfort that’s ideal for side, back, and stomach sleepers.

Simmons Gel Memory Foam scored 7.0/10 for firmness, putting it in the firm category. This level of firmness can be comfortable for back and stomach sleepers. However, you may notice pressure on your hips and shoulders if you sleep on your side or if you have a lightweight body type.

Edge Support

Foam mattresses aren’t typically known for having high edge support. However, both Juno and Simmons scored well in this category. Juno has excellent edge support with a score of 8.0/10, and the Simmons mattress scored slightly higher at 8.3/10. You should be able to sit on the edge of the bed comfortably with either mattress.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner on the other side of the bed. Juno has an above-average motion isolation score of 6.2/10. Simmons Gel Memory Foam also performed well with a higher score of 7.7/10.

Bounce

While bounce is more of a preference, it’s important to know the bounce ratings of various mattresses if getting an undisturbed sleep is important to you. A bouncier mattress makes for a more responsive one, making it easier to change positions and spring out of bed, but a mattress with less bounce helps create a smoother sleep surface.

Simmons Gel Memory Foam has a bounce score of 3.1/10, while Juno scored 2.5/10. Both mattresses would work for your needs if you’re a light sleeper who wakes up easily.

Cooling Features

Foam mattresses can be known to trap heat, so even budget-value foam mattresses often incorporate cooling features to prevent heat-trapping and promote temperature balance. Simmons Gel Memory Foam has one cooling feature: a layer of cooling gel foam that helps to dissipate heat. This earned a cooling feature score of 1.2/10.

Juno earned a higher score of 2.4/10. This is due to the mattress’s layer of cooling gel foam, as well as its optional Cool+ cover made from special cooling yarn. If you’re looking for an affordable mattress to help you sleep at night without getting hot, Juno is a better choice with its higher score.

Juno and Simmons are both all-foam mattresses. Juno contains 2 foam layers, whereas Simmons has 3 foam layers. However, they both stand 8″ tall.

Juno Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer consists of 2″ of full-body cooling gel foam, giving you contoured comfort and a cool night’s sleep. It has a foam density of 2.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The support layer is 6″ of total support foam, which makes the mattress feel firmer, provides extra edge support, and reduces motion transfer from the other side of the bed. Its foam density is 1.85 lb/ft³.

The Juno mattress cover is made with a blend of viscose and polyester. It has a zipper but is not machine washable, according to the manufacturer. We recommend that you spot-clean any spills or stains. If you want extra cooling in your mattress cover, you can upgrade to Juno’s moisture-wicking Cool+ cover.

Simmons Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer of the Simmons Gel Memory Foam mattress is 2″ of cooling gel-infused foam. This layer conforms to your body’s shape while you’re lying down, and actively dissipates heat from your body.
  • Layer 2: The second (transition) layer is 2″ of polyurethane foam. This layer stops you from feeling the denser support layer beneath. Costco’s product page describes this as a “motion separation” layer, but it’s not clear what this means.
  • Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 4″ of polyurethane foam. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk, and prevents you from sinking too deeply into it when lying down.

Simmons’s cover is made of 72% polyester and 28% micro-polyamide, which is a blend of elastane and microfibres similar to polyester. The law label of the Simmons Gel Memory Foam mattress does not indicate whether or not the mattress cover is machine washable. To be safe, we recommend spot-cleaning it only.

Juno

Juno ships by ground for free using FedEx. Your mattress will be delivered directly to your door throughout most parts of Canada in 2–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations.

Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial, which is longer than the 100-night industry average. If you decide to return the mattress, the company provides free return pickup and a full refund. Your returned mattress will also be donated to a local charity or recycled, depending on the options available in your area.

Juno comes with a generous 15-year warranty. Judging by its online reputation, Juno is known for good customer service. The company is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB.

Simmons

Shipping and delivery for Simmons will vary depending on which retailer you purchase from. We purchased our Simmons mattress through Costco—something you’ll need a valid membership to do. You’ll get free shipping and delivery if you order online, but this option isn’t available if you purchase in-store.

Costco ships via UPS/FedEx. The mattress should arrive in 2–10 business days with Costco’s “quick ship” promotion. However, this offer may not be available for all customers. It depends on your location and the time you purchase this mattress. If you live in a remote area, the package may be held at a local store for pickup, which you’ll have to arrange yourself.

A Simmons mattress purchased through Costco doesn’t come with a sleep trial. You can instead expect Costco’s return policy, which will provide free return shipping in the case of online purchases. The return process will take 3–4 weeks. If you purchased your mattress in-store, you will need to bring it back to Costco yourself and return it to customer service.

Simmons has an industry-average 10-year warranty. It’s worth noting that the brand’s parent company, Serta Simmons Bedding, is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot. It’s also rated “F (unaccredited)” on BBB, with a “pattern of complaints” and a customer review rating of 1.79 stars.
