Which Is Better: Polysleep or Douglas?

Douglas Original is a combination foam mattress with cooling gel foam, a machine-washable cover, a 365-night sleep trial, and a 20-year warranty. Polysleep Origin 2.0 is a memory foam mattress with limited cooling features, a 100-night sleep trial, and a 10-year warranty. There’s no comparison between the two—Douglas is the clear winner.

Only Douglas Original features impressive edge support, superior motion isolation, and pressure-point relief for all sleeping positions—all for a lower price than Polysleep at just $799 for a queen size. Your Douglas mattress also comes with a free bedding bundle that includes a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s).

Mattress Breakdown

Douglas Original features impressive edge support, superior motion isolation, and a 365-night sleep trial. Polysleep Origin 2.0 has average edge support and above-average motion isolation. These scores don’t measure up to Douglas. Polysleep also has a much shorter sleep trial—just 100 nights—with restrictions that make this timeframe even shorter.

It’s hard to find reliable Polysleep reviews online. Polysleep claims to have 6,000+ five-star reviews, but the website only shows a few hundred. One customer noted it took some effort to leave a one-star rating. Another Polysleep review on r/mattress reported trouble arranging pickup and getting a refund. Polysleep doesn’t have any reviews on its unclaimed Trustpilot profile or with the Better Business Bureau, which is unusual for an online mattress company.

In comparison, Douglas has an excellent reputation for product quality and customer care. The company is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB. Douglas has also earned 16,300+ five-star reviews from verified customers. Shipping and returns are cost-free and hassle-free.

When you compare Douglas vs Polysleep, it’s clear that only Douglas provides excellent value and customer service.

Firmness

Both Polysleep Origin 2.0 and Douglas Original are medium-firm mattresses. This level of firmness is ideal for all sleep styles.

However, Polysleep only has a 1″ top layer and a 2″ transition layer, both of which are memory foam.  This means your body will sink deeper into the Polysleep mattress. You may notice overheating because Polysleep doesn’t have any cooling features to balance out the heat-trapping properties of memory foam.

In contrast, Douglas Original has a 2″ top layer of cooling gel foam and a 2″ layer of Elastex® foam, which mimics the springy yet supportive feel of latex. Douglas gently contours around your body with minimal sinking so you can easily change positions while you sleep.

Edge Support

Foam mattresses aren’t typically known for having high edge support. But Douglas Original breaks the stereotype with an impressive edge support rating of 7.8/10. You’ll be able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed, and you should have no difficulty getting up in the morning.

In comparison, Polysleep Origin 2.0 scored just 5.9/10. This is an average score, and considerably lower than Douglas. If you have mobility issues, sleep with a partner, or like to sit on the edge of the bed, Douglas is a better choice.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets. Douglas Original has an exceptionally high motion isolation score of 8.3/10. You can expect to sleep soundly and not notice any movement from the other side of the mattress.

Polysleep Origin 2.0 has a lower motion isolation score of 6.5/10. This is still above average. You may not notice much movement from the other side of the bed. Still, if you’re looking for exceptional motion isolation for the most undisturbed sleep, you should look at Douglas instead.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce is a good thing if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken, while higher bounce is ideal if you often change sleep positions.

Both Polysleep and Douglas scored below average for bounce. This is typical for all-foam mattresses. Polysleep Origin 2.0 earned a bounce score of 4.6/10. Douglas scored lower at 3.1/10. However, even with Douglas’s lower score, you’ll likely find it easier to change sleep positions and get out of bed. This is thanks to the Elastex® transition layer, which provides extra spring and support.

Cooling

Foam can be known to trap heat, so most modern foam mattresses incorporate cooling features to help ensure breathability and airflow for comfortable sleep. Douglas does exactly this by using a moisture-wicking  CoolSense® mattress cover, a layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam as well as breathable Elastex® foam. These elements earned Douglas Original a cooling features score of 4.2/10.

Polysleep, on the other hand, received a cooling features score of just 0.8/10. This score is due to Polysleep’s breathable top cover, and open-cell foam construction in the mattress’s comfort layer. Indicated by these scores, you’re more likely to have a cooler and more comfortable sleep on Douglas Original.

Both Douglas Original and Polysleep Origin 2.0 are combination foam mattresses with 3 layers. But only Douglas has layers of cooling gel foam and Elastex® foam for additional spring and support.

Memory foam is known for sleeping hot, and Polysleep doesn’t address the issue with any cooling features. The company claims Polysleep Origin’s open-cell layer will promote airflow, but this isn’t nearly enough to be effective. In comparison, Douglas Original comes with a moisture-wicking mattress cover and a layer of cooling gel foam to help keep temperatures comfortable.

Douglas Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam, minus the late-night heat. It’s also more eco-conscious.
  • Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. This foam is latex-free, making it a good option if you’re sensitive to latex.
  • Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This means you’ll hardly feel a thing from the other side of the bed, even if your partner is tossing and turning all night long.

Polysleep Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 1″ of viscoelastic foam, which Polysleep claims is antimicrobial. This is fairly thin for a top layer, meaning you’ll feel more of the transition layer beneath. Foam density is 3 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: This 2″ transition layer is designed for body contouring and responsiveness. It has the lowest density of all layers at 1.3 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 3: The 7″ support layer has half the density of the top layer at 1.5 lb/ft³, despite needing density to support the upper layers. This may be one reason why Origin 2.0’s edge support score is lower than the original version.

Douglas’s cover design is a nod to the brand’s Canadian roots with its red-and-white colour profile and mountainscape stitching. Made with moisture-wicking, plant-based Infinitex™ fibres, the stretch knit fabric is soft, breathable, and durable to help you sleep cool all night long. The CoolSense® top cover is removable and machine-washable.

Polysleep’s top cover is white, with stitching details for added texture. The water-resistant fabric is a blend of viscose (rayon) and polyester. While Polysleep says this fabric is breathable, polyester in fact has a reputation for heat trapping. The mattress cover unzips easily and is machine washable.

Keep temperatures comfortable with Douglas’s cooling features.
