Firmness

Serta Perfect Sleeper Elite Percevall is advertised as a firm mattress. Independent, third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) confirmed this statement with a firmness score of 7.6/10. This mattress should feel supportive if you sleep on your back or stomach. However, if you’re a side sleeper, you may find this level of firmness uncomfortable, as it places pressure on your side and doesn’t help maintain good spinal alignment.

Octave Vista, on the other hand, was designed with a medium-firm feel and scored 6.8/10 for firmness. Medium-firm mattresses are ideal for all sleep styles, which is why they’re often the top choice for guest rooms and couples who share a bed. This means you should find this level of firmness comfortable whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach.

With its layers of premium foams, including a multi-zoned support layer, Vista provides the perfect mix of cushioning, support, and pressure-point relief.

Edge Support

Hybrid mattresses like Serta Perfect Sleeper Elite Percevall are known for good edge support, thanks to their supportive inner coils. Percevall also has a layer of firmer edge foam around the entire perimeter of the mattress. This is likely why the mattress received an outstanding edge support rating of 9.5/10.

Octave Vista’s score is lower than Serta’s at 7.5/10. However, this score is still excellent, especially for an all-foam mattress. You should find it easy to sit on the edge of either mattress, and you shouldn’t have any trouble getting out of bed.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets. Chill Trio Dione has an above-average motion isolation score of 7.1/10. But if you’re looking for a little extra motion isolation, you may prefer Octave Vista with its higher rating of 7.3/10. You can expect to sleep soundly and not notice any movement from the other side of the mattress.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce is a good thing if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken, while higher bounce is ideal if you often change sleep positions.

All-foam mattresses typically score low for bounce. Chill Trio Dione earned a bounce score of 2.9/10. This is quite low, meaning you could have some difficulty changing sleep positions. If you’re looking for more spring and responsiveness, consider Octave Vista with its higher bounce score of 3.7/10.

Both Octave Vista and Serta Perfect Sleeper Elite Percevall are Canadian-made mattresses that promote a cool, comfortable night’s sleep. Beyond that, the construction and performance specifications of these two mattresses are very different.

Octave Vista is a memory foam mattress with 3 layers, and it stands 12″ tall. Memory foam has a reputation for trapping heat, but Octave beats this heat with advanced cooling features. The mattress has a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, and multi-zone support foam with breathable air channels. It also has a layer of premium Elastex® foam for additional breathability and responsiveness.

Serta Perfect Sleeper Elite Percevall is a hybrid mattress with 4 layers. It stands 11.5″ tall. Percevall has limited cooling features—gel memory foam and silver fibres—so this mattress may not live up to its promise of “impressive temperature regulation.”

Octave Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: Octave Vista’s top (comfort) layer is 2″ of copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material for temperature balancing. This layer is designed to pull heat and sweat away from your body for a cooler sleep. Copper is a natural conductor and antimicrobial metal, which is intended to maintain the cleanliness of the mattress.
• Layer 2: The responsive, body-contouring transition layer is 2″ premium Elastex® foam that has the same springy feel as natural latex. Its additional bounce makes it easier for you to shift positions in the bed for a more comfortable sleep.
• Layer 3: Octave’s support layer is 8″ of high-density, multi-zone support foam. This ultra-durable layer has five pressure-relief zones to support every area of your body. It also has breathable air channels to let warm air escape and allow cooler air to enter the mattress.

Serta Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 1″ foam that’s been quilted into pockets. Technically, this layer is actually two separate sheets of 0.5″ foam. We consider this one layer because the foam sheets are physically attached and combined to form the top layer.
• Layer 2: This layer is 2″ of relatively dense foam, preventing you from feeling the coils as they adjust to your body’s movements. However, with its denser feel, you may not experience the full contouring benefits of the coil layer below.
• Layer 3: 8″ individually pocketed coils provide full-body support. These coils aren’t used along Percevall’s sidewalls. The sidewalls are instead supported using 3″ support foam, which contributes to the mattress’s excellent edge support score.
• Layer 4: At the bottom of the mattress, 0.5″ of foam provides a little extra support below the pocketed coils.

Percevall’s mattress cover uses antimicrobial fabric woven with silver fibres to help the mattress stay cool and fresh. However, this cover is not removable or machine washable. You’ll need to spot-clean the mattress in case of stains, spills, and sweat stains—and those sweat stains are very possible, given Percevall’s limited cooling features.

Octave Vista’s top cover is woven with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres. This gives the sleep surface a refreshingly cool feel and wicks away moisture from your body throughout the night. Unlike Percevall, Octave Vista’s top cover is removable and machine washable for easy cleaning.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Note: We purchased Serta Perfect Sleeper Elite Percevall through Sleep Country in 2023, but it has since been discontinued. It may still be available in Canada through other retailers.

Both Octave and Sleep Country provide free shipping by ground, directly to your door throughout most parts of Canada. Octave uses FedEx to deliver its mattresses. Sleep Country uses its own delivery trucks in metro areas, and doesn’t deliver in the Northern Territories or in Newfoundland and Labrador. Additional fees may apply for either mattress in some remote locations.

Octave ships from Ontario or Alberta in 3–10 business days. Sleep Country also ships from its store locations in 3–10 business days, depending on the company’s inventory and delivery schedule.

Serta arrives fully expanded. (This may contribute to Percevall’s higher price, as expanded mattresses require greater storage and can create inventory issues for manufacturers.) Our mattress was wrapped in a single layer of heavy-duty plastic. The plastic had a tear close to the label, although the mattress was undamaged.

Octave, on the other hand, is compressed and shipped in a cardboard box. (Bed-in-a-box mattresses are easier and less expensive to store, which is one reason why Octave has a lower price tag than Percevall.) The Octave Vista mattress is protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic. Once unrolled, your Octave mattress fully expands in a few minutes, and is sleep-ready on delivery day.

Octave Vista comes with a risk-free 365-night sleep trial. If you decide to return your Octave mattress for a full refund, Octave will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period. Just contact the customer service team to coordinate your return. Octave will donate your returned mattress to a local charity in your area, or recycle the mattress if donation isn’t possible.

Sleep Country’s sleep trial is just 100 nights, and the return process isn’t as simple as Octave’s. You’ll need to bring the mattress back to Sleep Country yourself. You won’t receive a refund, just store credit that you can put toward a different mattress—minus a $65 exchange fee. If you choose a more expensive mattress, you have to pay the difference yourself. And even if you pick a less expensive mattress, you still won’t get a refund on the remaining balance.

Both Sleep Country and Serta provide a 10-year warranty. However, customers have left negative reviews on Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot about Serta’s product quality and warranty claims. And if you buy Percevall through a different retailer, you’ll be dealing with their return policy, not Serta’s or Sleep Country’s. Check with the retailer directly for specific information.

In comparison, Octave comes with a 15-year warranty. The company is rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot. Octave also has over 5,000 five-star reviews from verified customers.
