In comparison, Puffy comes with two free pillows and a single cooling feature: a layer of gel-infused foam. When tested for firmness by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), Puffy Cloud and Octave Vista both received scores that fall into the medium-firm category. However, each mattress has its unique variations within this range.

Puffy Cloud earned a score of 5.9/10, meaning it’s on the slightly softer side of medium-firm. You may feel a bit more “hug” when you lie down on the Puffy mattress. Octave, on the other hand, earned a firmness score of 6.8/10. This score means Octave will feel a touch firmer than Puffy while still offering excellent pressure-point relief and comfort.

Either mattress should suit a wide range of sleep styles, but Octave Vista’s zoned support may lead to a noticeably more comfortable rest if you’re a stomach sleeper.

Edge Support

All-foam mattresses aren’t always known for having exceptional edge support, but both Octave and Puffy prove themselves worthy in this category. Puffy earned a very good edge support score of 7.0/10, meaning you should feel fairly well supported when you sit on the edge of the mattress.

However, if you tend to sit on the edge of the bed or lie near the side, you’ll likely prefer a mattress with an even higher edge support score. Octave Vista scored 7.5/10 for edge support, giving you even more stability and confidence on the edge of your mattress.

Motion Isolation

Good motion isolation in a mattress can be the key to undisturbed sleep—especially if you share your bed with a restless partner, kids, or pets. Puffy Cloud performed well for motion isolation, receiving a score of 7.0/10. That said, Octave Vista scored even higher at 7.3/10.

If you’re a light sleeper, Octave Vista can help you get a more restful, satisfying sleep so you’re ready to face the day. The mattress’s layers of high-density foam contour around your body, improving motion isolation and preventing your partner’s movements from waking you.

Bounce

With mattresses, bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce can mean a more consistent and undisturbed sleep, while higher bounce is often enjoyed by combination sleepers who change positions often.

Puffy Cloud scored a 4.7/10 for bounce, which is about average for a foam mattress. Octave scored lower at 3.7/10. Paired with its higher motion isolation score, Octave’s lower-than-average level of bounce can help you get a more restful sleep. You don’t have to sacrifice responsiveness, either, since Octave has a layer of bouncy Elastex® foam to help you change positions throughout the night.

Cooling Features

Despite advertising their mattress as having multiple cooling features, Puffy Cloud received a cooling feature score of just 1.0/10. The mattress earned this score for its single feature: a layer of cooling gel foam. Puffy also contains “Climate Comfort” foam, but the company doesn’t say how this foam provides any cooling benefit.

Octave Vista was designed with cooling comfort in mind, and scored a much higher 7.2/10 for cooling features. Vista achieved this score thanks to features like its cooling top cover woven with CryoFusion™ nanofibres. The top memory foam layer is infused with copper to conduct heat away from your body and is treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material for added temperature control.

The foam layers are also more breathable than a typical memory foam mattress, thanks to the breathable Elastex® foam and air channels in the bottom foam layer, which allow any excess heat to escape. If you’re looking for a mattress to keep you comfortable throughout the night, Octave delivers better cooling at just $899 for a queen size, compared to $2,049 for Puffy.

Mattress Construction

Both Octave and Puffy are memory foam mattresses made up of 3 layers. While they might look similar at first glance, they have very different construction and benefits.

Octave Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: Octave Vista’s top (comfort) layer is 2″ of CopperGel™ memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, which adapts to seasonal temperature changes. This layer contours around your body, providing immediate relief from strain on your muscles and joints. Copper is also an antimicrobial metal and helps promote a clean, fresh sleep surface while transferring heat away from your body.
• Layer 2: Vista’s transition layer is 2″ of premium Elastex® foam, which is designed to be breathable and responsive. This specialized foam layer has the same springy feel as natural latex with the same pressure-relieving feel. The added bounce also makes it easier for you to change sleep positions.
• Layer 3: The support layer is 8″ of high-density foam divided into a unique five-zoned support system. This layer provides contouring support for your body, with added support beneath your back, hips, and knees. This innovative design reduces discomfort and stiffness while caring for your body and aiding in its natural recovery.

Octave’s top cover is engineered with cooling nanofibres to draw heat away from the body, and wicks away moisture to keep you comfortable as you sleep. The cover has a cool-to-the-touch feel that you’ll notice as soon as you lie down. Its 360° zipper means the cover is removable, and it can be machine-washed for easy care and maintenance.

Puffy Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 2″ of gel-infused foam. This layer conforms to your shape as you lie down, and contains cooling gel to transfer heat away from your body.
• Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 2″ of Climate Comfort foam. This layer helps cushion your body and prevents you from feeling too much of the support layer‘s density. Puffy doesn’t provide any further information about this type of foam or how it helps with temperature control, as the name suggests.
• Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 6″ of dense support foam. This foundational element gives the mattress most of its bulk, and stops you from sinking too deeply into it.

Puffy advertises the mattress cover as being hypoallergenic and moisture-resistant. That said, it’s made of 100% polyester, so it’s not clear what properties make the cover suitable for people with allergies. Polyester also isn’t a breathable material and can trap heat. Given Puffy’s lack of cooling features, you’ll likely notice overheating at night.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Both Octave and Puffy ship their mattresses for free to most locations in Canada using FedEx. Puffy says the mattress takes 1–2 days to be dispatched, but this doesn’t include actual shipping time. A Puffy mattress will likely take 5–7 business days to arrive at your doorstep. Octave mattresses will take 3–10 business days to be delivered to your home.

Your sleep trial for either mattress begins on the day it’s delivered. Puffy only offers a 101-night sleep trial. Octave mattresses, on the other hand, come with a 365-night sleep trial—almost four times as long. During your sleep trial, you can decide whether to keep the mattress or return it for free.

Octave mattresses come with a 15-year warranty, which is much longer than the industry-average 10-year warranty. Puffy’s warranty is even longer, as they claim to offer a lifetime warranty for each mattress. However, some customers have complained about Puffy not honouring this warranty on third-party sites like Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot.

Other online feedback for Puffy is also mixed. The company is rated “A-” (unaccredited) on BBB, but just “Average” on Trustpilot. Customers have reported problems with shipping, mattress quality, and warranty claims. In comparison, Octave’s parent company has a rating of “A+” on the BBB, and is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot.
