Novosbed was a three-layer memory foam mattress with three firmness options and a machine-washable cover. Priced at $1,399 for a queen size, Novosbed Medium offered above-average motion isolation and a low amount of bounce. It featured a Tencel™ mattress cover and was constructed with open-cell memory foam, with some options having a layer of cooling gel foam.

Despite these benefits, Novosbed had its limitations. It lacked a layer of support foam and advanced cooling technologies, and the 120-night sleep trial was only slightly longer than the 100-night trial offered by competitors.

In comparison, Octave Vista offers advanced cooling features, ergonomic five-zoned support, and high-density memory foam layers that relieve strain and tension throughout your body. Firmness

As the name suggests, Novosbed Medium was considered a medium mattress on the firmness scale. This level of firmness can be comfortable for side and back sleepers but may not offer enough support for stomach sleepers.

In comparison, Octave Vista is considered a medium-firm mattress. Medium-firm mattresses are a popular choice among Canadian sleepers as they suit a wide range of sleep styles, meaning you should find this level of firmness comfortable whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach. If you prefer a touch more firmness Octave’s layers of premium foam provide the perfect balance of cushioning and support.

In addition, Octave’s innovative ergonomic five-zoned support provides more targeted pressure-point relief, helping relieve tension in your muscles and joints while keeping your spine aligned.

Edge Support

Although foam mattresses aren’t known for having good edge support, Octave Vista sets itself apart with an above-average edge support score of 7.5/10. Novosbed Medium, on the other hand, scored below average at 3.8/10. If you need a mattress where you can sit comfortably on its edge and easily get out of bed in the morning, you’ll appreciate the improvements made to Octave Vista compared to its predecessor.

Motion Isolation

If you are a light sleeper, have a restless partner, or sleep with your kids or pets, you’ll want a mattress with good motion isolation. Most shoppers prefer foam mattresses for this reason. While Novosbed Medium has an above-average motion isolation score of 6.8/10, Octave Vista has an even higher motion isolation score of 7.3/10.

With Octave’s layers of high-density, body-contouring foams, you can expect to sleep soundly and not notice any movement from the other side of the mattress. You should also notice less tossing and turning since the mattress promotes balanced support and weight distribution. In fact, the brand says that 95% of customers were satisfied with the quality of their sleep since switching to an Octave mattress.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce is a good thing if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken, while higher bounce is ideal if you often change sleep positions.

Both Novosbed Medium and Octave Vista scored below average for bounce. This is typical for all-foam mattresses with good motion isolation. Novosbed Medium has a bounce score of 2.3/10, which is quite low, and means you could have a bit more difficulty changing sleep positions. If you’re looking for more spring and responsiveness, you will likely enjoy Octave Vista with its higher bounce score of 3.7/10.

Cooling Features

Foam mattresses can be known to trap heat, so both Octave and Novosbed both incorporate cooling features to help you sleep comfortably. Novosbed earned a cooling features score of 2.5/10 because of its breathable Tencel™ cover, premium airflow foam, and cooling gel foam for added heat dissipation.

In comparison, the newer Octave Vista earned a cooling features score of 7.2/10. This is due to its cooling nanofibre cover, its copper-infused cooling gel memory foam, phase-change material for temperature balance, layer of breathable Elastex® foam, and ventilated support foam layer. Mattress Construction

Both Octave Vista and Novosbed Medium are three-layer memory foam mattresses with cooling features. But only Octave Vista offers phase-change material for enhanced cooling, multi-zone support foam for targeted pressure-point relief, and Elastex® foam for additional bounce, body contouring, and responsiveness.

Memory foam is known for sleeping hot. To combat this, the top layer of Novosbed Medium is 1″ of premium open-cell airflow foam, followed by a 3″ layer of high-density cooling gel memory foam. With its polyester and Tencel™ blend, the machine-washable cover also had some breathability. However, while high-density memory foam is durable, it does trap heat more than other types of foam.

When you compare the Novosbed mattress vs Octave, it’s clear that Octave Vista is more meticulously crafted to give you a deeper, more restoring night’s sleep. Vista has five-zoned support to give your muscles and joints targeted relief throughout the night. • Layer 1: Octave Vista’s top (comfort) layer is 2″ of CopperGel™ memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, which adapts to seasonal temperature changes. Copper is also an antimicrobial metal and helps promote a clean, fresh sleep surface while transferring heat away from your body.
• Layer 2: Vista’s transition layer is 2″ of premium Elastex® foam, which is designed to be breathable and responsive. This specialized foam layer has the same springy feel as natural latex with the same pressure-relieving feel. The added bounce also makes it easier for you to change sleep positions.
• Layer 3: The support layer is 8″ of high-density foam divided into a unique five-zoned support system. This layer provides contouring support for your body, with added support beneath your back, hips, and knees. This innovative design reduces discomfort and stiffness while caring for your body and aiding in its natural recovery.

Novosbed Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 1″ of premium airflow foam. This top layer provides airflow and prevents heat trapping near the surface of the mattress. Foam density: 2 lb/ft³.
• Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 2″ of high-density gel memory foam. Designed for durability and cooling, this layer also improves motion isolation so you’re less affected by movement from the other side of the mattress. Foam density: 4 lb/ft³.
• Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 7″ of premium support foam. This layer contributes to motion isolation and provides a strong foundation for the mattress. Foam density: 1.8 lb/ft³.

Octave has a removable, machine-washable top cover with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres. This gives the sleep surface a refreshingly cool feel while it wicks away moisture from your body throughout the night. Novosbed also has a machine-washable cover, but it’s made of durable polyester woven with Tencel™ to dissipate heat. Octave’s cooling nanofibres give the mattress an edge when it comes to temperature control.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Octave ships for free by ground using FedEx. It ships from Ontario or Alberta, and will reach your doorstep in 3–10 business days, including dispatch time. Your mattress is delivered directly to your door throughout most parts of Canada. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations.

When it was available in Canada, Novosbed also shipped by ground using FedEx, and shipped from Ontario or Alberta in 3–10 business days. Shipping was free to most Canadian regions.

Novosbed revolutionized the bed-in-a-box industry with its 120-night sleep trial. (The company no longer provides this trial since Novosbed mattresses have been discontinued and aren’t available for purchase.) Octave now offers an even longer 365-night trial so you can test out your mattress at home. If you choose to return your mattress for a full refund, Octave will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period. Just contact customer service to coordinate your return.

Novosbed offered a 15-year warranty on its mattresses—five years longer than the industry-standard 10-year warranty. Octave has continued the tradition of longer-than-average coverage with its own 15-year warranty.
