Casper Snow is a hybrid mattress made in the United States. It has advanced cooling features like perforated foam, phase-change material, and cooling yarn in the top cover. This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. According to independent third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Octave Horizon and Casper Snow earned near-identical scores for firmness. Casper scored 5.9/10 on the firmness scale, and Octave scored 6.0/10.
These scores place both mattresses in the medium-firm category. Medium-firm mattresses are ideal for all sleep styles. You should find this level of firmness comfortable whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach.
Hybrid mattresses tend to have higher-than-average edge support, thanks to their supportive inner coils. Casper Snow has good edge support with a rating of 6.5/10.
While foam mattresses often score lower for edge support, Octave Horizon performs even better than Casper Snow with an above-average edge support score of 6.8/10. You should find it easy to sit on the edge of this mattress, and you shouldn’t have any trouble getting out of bed.
Motion isolation is essential for a good night’s sleep, especially if you’re sharing the bed with a restless partner, kids, or pets. Both Octave Horizon and Casper Snow earned excellent scores for motion isolation.
Casper Snow scored 7.9/10, while Octave Horizon scored 7.6/10. You can expect a restful night’s sleep with both mattresses, without noticing much movement from the other side of the bed.
Casper Snow earned a bounce score of 3.0/10. This is very low for a hybrid mattress. Snow also has a fair bit of “hug,” meaning you may find it harder to shift positions while you sleep.
Octave Horizon has a slightly higher (but still below average) bounce score of 3.8/10. Even with this lower score, you shouldn’t have any problem changing positions while you sleep, thanks to Octave’s responsive layer of Elastex® foam.
Octave Horizon and Casper Snow both incorporate advanced cooling features to help ensure breathability and temperature balance for a good night’s sleep. However, some mattresses have more features than others.
Casper Snow earned a cooling features score of 7.3/10. This is due to its CoolTouch™ cover engineered with specialized cooling yarn, perforated foam, phase-change material, foil-covered HeatDelete™ bands, and individually pocketed spring coils.
However, Octave Horizon performed even better, with a cooling feature score of 8.7/10. Its cooling nanofibre cover, two layers of CopperGel™ infused memory foam for enhanced heat dissipation, aerated latex foam layer, breathable Elastex® foam layer, and support layer with air channels for enhanced airflow all contributed to this score. Compared to Casper Snow, Octave Horizon offers more cooling features for half the price.

Both Octave Horizon and Casper Snow promote a rejuvenating, comfortable sleep. Beyond that, however, Octave and Casper are two very different mattresses.
Octave Horizon is a memory foam and latex foam mattress made in Canada. It has 5 layers and stands 14″ tall. Horizon features advanced technologies like copper-infused memory foam with PolarMAX® phase-change material, aerated latex foam, ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam, and body-contouring Elastex® foam.
Casper Snow is a hybrid mattress made in the United States. It has 5 layers and stands 12″ tall. Snow has individually wrapped pocket coils with dense foam around the edge for additional support. Its cooling features include perforated poly foam, phase-change material, and a top cover with cooling yarn.
Casper manufactures its mattress covers using recycled polyester, upcycled cotton, rayon, and lycra (spandex). Casper Snow’s cover also uses specialized cooling yarn. However, polyester and lycra aren’t known for being naturally breathable and often trap heat. The cooling yarn may help, but the other fabrics may limit its effectiveness.
Casper Snow’s cover is not removable or machine washable. Even though the mattress cover has a zipper, Casper strongly recommends not removing it for any reason. As a result, the mattress can only be spot-cleaned in case of stains and spills.
In comparison, Octave Horizon’s top cover is woven with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres. Horizon has the most cooling nanofibres of all the models in the Octave lineup. This means your sleep surface will feel refreshingly balanced while the mattress cover wicks away moisture from your body, keeping you at the ideal temperature to sleep deeply throughout the entire night.
Unlike Casper Snow, Octave Horizon has a top cover that’s removable and machine washable for easy cleaning.
Choose Octave and get the mattress with the machine-washable cover.
