Novaform and Casper are well-known foam mattress brands available in Canada. But while these mattresses are popular, they are both made in the United States and lack machine-washable covers. It’s also important to know that their sleep trial and warranty lengths are only industry average. If you’re comparing Casper vs Novaform while shopping for a foam mattress, we recommend checking out Douglas instead.
Only Canadian-made Douglas offers multiple cooling features, superior motion isolation, a 365-night sleep trial with risk-free returns, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle—all at an affordable price of $799 for a queen size.

Novaform ComfortGrande Plus is sold through Costco in Canada and requires a paid membership to purchase. While this memory foam mattress has good motion isolation and a 20-year warranty, it doesn’t come with a sleep trial when purchased through Costco, and customers have complained that the mattress tends to trap heat. It was also included in a 2023 product recall.
The Casper is also a memory foam mattress and has limited cooling features to balance out potential heat trapping. It lacks the zoned support found in Casper Original, the mattress’s previous version, despite being sold at the same price point. The Casper has good motion isolation and edge support but only comes with an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty.
Douglas outperforms both Novaform and Casper with top scores in edge support and motion isolation, a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for every sleep style, and a machine-washable cover. It also has a much longer 365-night sleep trial and a generous 20-year warranty. Douglas comes with a free sheet set, pillow(s), mattress protector, and pillow protector(s), giving you more value with your mattress purchase.

Douglas Original, Novaform ComfortGrande Plus, and The Casper are all foam mattresses with a medium-firm feel. That level of firmness is ideal whether you sleep on your side, stomach, or back. However, Douglas has considerably less “hug” in its top layer, meaning you may find a more supportive feel with this mattress compared to the other two.
Foam mattresses generally don’t have good edge support. Douglas Original, however, has an edge support score of 7.8/10, which is a very good score for an all-foam mattress. With Douglas, you can sit or lie closer to the edge of the bed without any fear of falling off.
In comparison, The Casper scored 7.5/10 for edge support. Although this is a good score, it’s still lower than Douglas. Novaform ComfortGrande Plus scored lowest for edge support at 3.5/10—a very low score, even for a foam mattress. You may find it difficult to sit on the edge of the bed or lie farther away from the middle.
Motion isolation is important for a good night’s sleep, especially if you’re a light sleeper. Douglas Original beats both of its competitors with an excellent motion isolation score of 8.3/10. The Casper scored much lower at 6.6/10, and Novaform ComfortGrande Plus scored just 6.5/10. If your partner tosses and turns, or if you’re easily disturbed by nighttime movements, Douglas is the best choice for a restful sleep.
Bounce is a matter of preference, but lower bounce is good if you’re easily disturbed while sleeping. The Casper has a 4.7/10 bounce score, which is average for a foam mattress. Novaform ComfortGrande Plus has a much lower bounce score at 3.2/10. However, Douglas Original has the lowest bounce score of all three mattresses, coming in at 3.1/10—providing the most ideal level of bounce for light sleepers.
Foam mattresses can be known to trap heat, so most modern foam mattresses incorporate cooling features to make sleep more comfortable. Novaform, Casper, and Douglas all feature cooling technologies in their construction—but not all cooling technologies are created equal.
The Casper earned a cooling features score of 2.5/10 due to its perforated, open-cell foam comfort layer that promotes better airflow throughout the mattress. This is the only cooling feature in the mattress. Given The Casper’s memory foam layers, you may notice overheating when sleeping on it, since memory foam is known for heat trapping.
Novaform ComfortGrande Plus scored somewhat higher at 3.2/10, thanks to its moisture-wicking top cover, cooling gel foam layer, and air channels carved into its middle layer. However, customer reviews indicate that the mattress tends to trap heat. This is likely due to the mattress’s memory foam layers.
Douglas Original has the highest cooling features score of all three mattresses at 4.2/10. It earned this score due to its CoolSense® cover, layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and layer of breathable Elastex® foam. If you’re looking for a quality foam mattress to keep temperatures balanced as you sleep, Douglas is your best choice.

Douglas Original, Novaform ComfortGrande Plus, and The Casper are all foam mattresses with 3 layers each. The Douglas and Casper mattresses are both 10″ tall, while Novaform is 14″ tall. Douglas is made in Canada, while both Casper and Novaform are manufactured in the United States.
Douglas Original’s cover is removable and machine washable for easy care. Made using plant-based Infinitex™ fibres, this cover wicks moisture away and helps keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night.
Novaform ComfortGrande Plus has a quilted, moisture-wicking top cover. However, this cover is not removable or machine washable. All spills or stains should be spot-cleaned only. Novaform was also included in a recall order due to possible mould exposure.
The Casper’s cover is made with cotton, polyester, rayon, and lycra. Although this mattress has a zipper, the cover isn’t meant to be removed or machine washed. Spills or stains should be spot-cleaned only.

Douglas ships its mattresses for free to most locations in Canada via FedEx. An additional fee applies if you’re ordering from a remote location. Your order will ship from Alberta or Ontario and arrive in 2–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time.
Douglas ships in a convenient box and is wrapped in two sheets of heavy-duty plastic. Once it’s unrolled and expanded, it expands to its full size in minutes and will be ready to sleep on the same day it arrives.
Douglas offers a 365-night sleep trial so you can test out the mattress at home. You can return the mattress at any point during the sleep trial. If you decide to return your mattress, returns come with free pickup service and a full refund. If you keep your mattress, it’ll be backed by Douglas’s generous 20-year warranty.
Novaform sells its ComfortGrande Plus mattress through Costco, which means you need a Costco membership to buy it. This mattress may be purchased either in-person or on the Costco website. You’ll also need to bring a truck if you decide to buy the mattress in-person, since Costco only offers shipping for online orders.
If you order this mattress online, Costco will use its in-house courier service to ship it to you in 10–15 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. Like Douglas, Novaform arrives boxed and is wrapped in heavy-duty plastic. According to the FAQ on Novaform’s website, it may take up to 48 hours for the mattress to expand to its full size.
While Novaform offers a 90-night sleep trial on its mattresses, you won’t get one when purchasing through Costco. If you decide to return the mattress, Costco only provides return shipping for online purchases. Buying in-store means hauling it back to the store yourself. Novaform ComfortGrande Plus also comes with a 20-year warranty.
Casper offers free shipping to most locations in Canada and should arrive on your doorstep in 5–15 business days. This is the case for mattresses purchased online or from one of Casper’s brick-and-mortar Sleep Store locations. However, additional fees apply if you’re ordering from a remote area. Mattresses sold through third-party retailers such as Sleep Country may be delivered using different couriers and with different delivery timelines.
The Casper will ship to you boxed and wrapped in two layers of plastic. It should be ready to sleep on the same day it arrives.
Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial for its mattresses. You can return the mattress during the trial period, but only after the first 30 nights of the trial have passed—almost a full third of the total warranty period. Casper also ships with an industry-standard 10-year warranty.
