Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Logan & Cove Choice and Hamuq received similar scores and can both be considered medium-firm mattresses.

Despite Hamuq’s Euro-top construction, which is meant to add additional plushness, Hamuq scored a 6.8/10. This score places the mattress on the firmer side of the medium-firm range, which could be a concern if you expect a Euro-top mattress to have a plush sleep surface with more “hug.”

Logan & Cove Choice features a tight-top construction, which is usually firmer compared to a Euro-top. Choice scored a 6.9/10 for firmness and has a lower amount of “hug,” so you can change sleep positions more easily. It will gently contour around your body with minimal sinking for a comfortable and supportive sleep.

Edge Support

Hamuq offers good edge support by using thicker steel coils around the perimeter of the mattress. These coils earned the mattress an edge support score of 7.3/10, which is very good for a hybrid mattress.

Logan & Cove Choice is built with a foam encasement to support sleepers when sitting on the edge of the mattress. Choice performed even higher than Hamuq with a score of 7.5/10. While you should have no problems sitting or sleeping on the edge of either of these mattresses, you may feel more confident sitting on the edge of Logan & Cove Choice.

Motion Isolation

Although motion isolation tends to be higher in foam mattresses than hybrids, both Hamuq Original and Logan & Cove Choice proved they can keep motion transfer at bay for a restful sleep.

Logan & Cove received a very good motion isolation score of 7.5/10. Hamuq’s motion isolation score was similarly high at 8.0/10. You shouldn’t feel large movements from the other side of the bed with either mattress.

Bounce

Bounce in mattresses is a preference. Lower bounce is typically ideal for light sleepers who are easily woken, while higher bounce can make it easier to change positions throughout the night.

Logan & Cove Choice scored 5.8/10 for bounce, which is around average for a hybrid mattress. Original Hamuq Hybrid had a higher bounce score of 6.5/10. This high bounce score could mean that you may not feel as many of the mattress’s motion-isolating abilities.

Cooling Features

Hybrid mattresses are known to sleep cooler than foam mattresses due to their coil systems, which promote better airflow. However, not every hybrid mattress is built equally.

Hamuq’s cooling features include a layer of gel-infused foam and a perforated foam layer. These layers, plus a steel coil innerspring system, all work together to dissipate excess heat, earning the mattress a cooling feature score of 3.7/10.

Logan & Cove goes a step beyond with its cooling feature score of 4.4/10. This mattress has a cooling top cover with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, breathable hollow fibre, and ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam. Its layers include added gel foam, Elastex® foam (a breathable open-cell foam similar to latex), and a layer of pocketed coils. This score indicates you’re more likely to have a cooler, more comfortable sleep on Logan & Cove Choice.

Mattress Construction

Logan & Cove Choice and Original Hamuq Hybrid are both 12″ tall hybrid mattresses made in Canada. Choice features 4 layers, while Hamuq features 3. Both provide cooling features and zoned support. However, despite their similarities, these are two very different mattresses.

Logan & Cove Choice Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The first layer is 1″ of breathable hollow fibre fill and cooling gel-infused foam. It’s quilted directly under the tight-top cover, providing a degree of plushness and directly dissipating your body heat when you’re lying down.
• Layer 2: The second layer is 1″ of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam. This foam layer provides excellent comfort and pressure-point relief, conforming to your body’s shape while also wicking away heat and moisture.
• Layer 3: The third layer is 1″ of Elastex® foam. This layer contours around your body, providing latex-like responsiveness and pressure relief, but without any of the allergy-causing chemicals in many natural latex mattresses.
• Layer 4: The support layer is 9″ of individually pocketed coils. Made of double-tempered steel, these coils are divided into 3 body-supporting zones to give contouring support for your back and hips. This layer is also encased with 4″-thick edge support foam along the sidewalls to give you more support when sitting on your bed, or lying farther away from the middle.

Logan and Cove’s moisture-wicking top cover is made of cooling nanofibres for a cool-to-the-touch feel, polyester, polyethylene, and spandex. Its quilted design offers a plush and comfortable sleeping surface with a luxury look.

Original Hamuq Hybrid Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The top layer is 1″ of soft Cloud Tech foam. This provides some softness in the upper portion of the mattress and provides some pressure-point relief.
• Layer 2: The transition layer is 2″ of Cloud Tech comfort foam. It works with the layer above to increase your comfort and support while lying down.
• Layer 3: The support layer is made up of 9″ pocketed coils. These coils are double-tempered high-carbon steel and are individually pocketed to help reduce motion transfer.

Although Original Hamuq Hybrid has a Euro-top construction, the material tufted into the cover makes up less than an inch of the mattress’s height, so we didn’t include this material in the mattress’s final layer count. Hamuq describes the material used for the mattress cover as hypoallergenic. This material is made up of cotton, felt, and polyester; it’s not clear how they provide hypoallergenic benefits when combined.

Neither of the covers on these mattresses are removable or machine washable. Any spills or stains should be spot-cleaned only.

Both Hamuq and Logan & Cove ship by ground to most Canadian locations using FedEx. Logan & Cove arrives at your doorstep in 2–11 business days and Hamuq arrives in 2–7 business days. For both brands, additional fees may apply for shipping to remote locations.

Following the bed-in-a-box model, both mattresses arrive packaged in a cardboard box and wrapped in layers of heavy-duty plastic. Be sure to keep the plastic wrap from either mattress you unbox so you don’t have to purchase a mattress bag in case of a return. Both mattresses expand quickly, and you can sleep on yours on the same day it’s unboxed.

Your mattress sleep trial will start the day you receive the bed. For the Hamuq mattress, you’ll receive 120 nights to see if it’s the right fit for you. Logan & Cove offers more than three times the trial period with a 365-night sleep trial. Both mattresses are backed by a 15-year warranty.

If you want to return your mattress, both Logan & Cove and Hamuq will both arrange your return and pick up the mattress for free. Once the company has picked up the mattress, it will be either donated to a local charity or recycled, depending on what options are available in your area.
