Which Is Better: Juno or Zinus?

Finding a quality yet budget-friendly mattress can be a challenge. Zinus and Juno are two options that stand out. Both are foam mattresses priced under $500 for a queen size, but that’s where the differences end. There’s no contest—Juno is the clear winner.

While both mattresses have good motion isolation, only Juno has excellent edge support. Juno also comes with a cooling gel foam layer, a 120-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. The company is rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot, and the Juno mattress has 4,900+ five-star reviews.

In comparison, Zinus only has a 10-year warranty and doesn’t offer a sleep trial in Canada. Zinus has also received numerous customer complaints online about the quality of its products, some of which contain fiberglass.

Mattress Breakdown

When comparing the Zinus mattress vs the Juno mattress, Juno stands out as the clear winner. Only Juno comes with excellent edge support and above-average motion isolation, a 120-night sleep trial, and a 15-year warranty. This Canadian mattress also has a cooling gel foam layer and a balanced medium-firm feel to cater to a wide range of sleep styles. As a company, Juno is rated well on third-party review sites—“A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Zinus, on the other hand, has only a 10-year warranty and doesn’t offer a sleep trial in Canada. It offers excellent motion isolation but has poor edge support, and it doesn’t include any cooling features. Zinus is also known to manufacture mattresses with fiberglass fire socks. This has contributed to a number of customer complaints about the company and its products. Zinus is rated “F” (unaccredited) on BBB and “Poor” on Trustpilot.

Firmness

Juno is considered medium-firm, and it has a gentle “hugging” sensation. This offers a well-rounded combination of support and comfort that should appeal to many different sleepers. In comparison, Zinus has a medium feel, which you’ll find much softer than Juno.

Edge Support

The Juno mattress scored 8.0/10 for edge support. This is an above-average score, so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting out of bed in the morning. In contrast, Zinus scored much lower at just 3.3/10. If you like to sit on the edge of your mattress or need a little help getting up, Juno is the better choice.

Motion Isolation

Foam mattresses are known for providing good motion isolation. Juno and Zinus both performed well in this area. Juno scored 6.2/10, while Zinus earned 8.6/10. While Zinus’s higher score means you may notice less movement from the other side of the bed, you should enjoy a restful night’s sleep with either mattress.

Bounce

Low bounce can be good news if you’re a light sleeper. Zinus scored a low bounce rating of 1.9/10. However, you may find it difficult to change positions. If you prefer a more responsive mattress that makes it easier to move and get out of bed, Juno could be a better option for you with its slightly higher bounce score of 2.5/10.

Cooling Features

Foam mattresses can be known to trap heat, so even budget-value foam mattresses often incorporate cooling features to prevent heat-trapping and promote a keep temperatures balanced—however, this isn’t always the case.

Zinus Green Tea doesn’t have any cooling features at all, earning a cooling feature score of 0.0/10. You may notice significant overheating when sleeping on this mattress.

Juno earned a higher cooling feature score of 2.4/10. This score is due to the mattress’s optional Cool+ cover made from special cooling yarn, as well as a layer of cooling gel foam that keeps your sleep surface cool and promotes enhanced air circulation. If you’re looking for an affordable mattress to help you sleep at night without getting hot, Juno is your best choice.

Choose the mattress with greater edge support, more bounce, and a medium-firm feel.

Both Juno and Zinus are combination foam mattresses. Juno contains 2 layers of foam and Zinus has 3 layers. Both mattresses contain foams that are CertiPUR-US® certified.

Juno Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer consists of 2″ of full-body cooling gel foam, giving you contoured comfort and a cool night’s sleep. It has a foam density of 2.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The support layer is 6″ of total support foam, which makes the mattress feel firmer, provides extra edge support, and reduces motion transfer from the other side of the bed. Its foam density is 1.85 lb/ft³.

Zinus Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The top layer is 3″ of BioFoam memory foam, infused with charcoal and green tea. Zinus claims this keeps the mattress fresher for a longer time and helps to relieve aches and pains.
  • Layer 2: This 2″ transition layer is a layer of Zinus Comfort Foam® designed to provide consistent support and softness while stopping you from sinking in too deep. Zinus Green Tea is extremely soft, which means the mattress is comfortable but may not provide as much support as you need.
  • Layer 3: The 7″ foam base layer is designed to provide full-body pressure relief, long-term durability, and strong edge support. However, third-party engineer testing found that the layer doesn’t perform as well as expected for edge support.

Both Juno and Zinus have mattress covers that are not machine washable. While Zinus’s mattress cover is polyester, the Juno mattress cover is a polyester-and-viscose blend, making it breathable. If you’re looking for extra cooling, you can upgrade to Juno’s Cool+ cover, which includes moisture-wicking fabric.

Zinus has been known for using fiberglass in its mattress products to meet United States federal regulations for fire safety. The company has put out a statement on its US site saying it’s transitioning from fiberglass to a rayon-based fire retardant. The statement didn’t disclose when this transition is taking place. Zinus continues to warn mattress owners not to remove the mattress cover.

Juno ships by ground using FedEx. Shipping is free to most Canadians but additional fees may apply for some remote locations. You can expect the Juno mattress to reach you in 2–10 business days, including delivery and dispatch time. Meanwhile, Zinus doesn’t ship directly from its website to Canadian addresses. You’ll have to purchase the Zinus Green Tea mattress through Amazon, Walmart, or other retailers.

Juno offers a straightforward 120-night sleep trial. The company will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period and issue a full refund. Juno will also donate your Juno mattress to a local charity in your area, or recycle it if donation isn’t possible. Zinus, on the other hand, doesn’t offer a sleep trial for mattresses purchased in Canada. Your sleep trial and return policy will be determined based on the retailer you purchase from.

Zinus offers a 10-year warranty that only covers manufacturing defects. However, based on customer complaints, you may have difficulty completing a warranty claim. The company is rated “F” (unaccredited) on BBB and “Poor” on Trustpilot, with customer complaints about poor product quality and customer service. You can only reach Zinus customer service through an online form, with no response time provided.

In comparison, Juno offers a significantly longer 15-year warranty. You can quickly reach Juno for support by phone, by email, or through the online chat feature on their website. The company has also received many positive reviews from customers across multiple third-party review sites. Juno is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau and is “Excellent” on Trustpilot.
