Which Is Better: Juno or Douglas?

Finding a mattress that prioritizes comfort and affordability can be difficult. But fortunately, it’s not impossible. Both Juno and Douglas are brands that offer excellent value for cost-conscious shoppers.

Juno offers a straightforward all-foam design that features cooling gel foam, great edge support, and an affordable price of just $499 for a queen size. It also comes with a 120-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty.

Douglas is also an all-foam mattress that has cooling gel foam layer. It provides balanced support and pressure-point relief, along with excellent motion isolation and a machine-washable cover. Douglas offers exceptional value with its 365-night sleep trial, 20-year warranty, and lower cost of $$799 for a queen size.

If you’re shopping on a budget, Juno is a good pick. If you’re willing to spend a little extra for a feature-rich mattress that’s still very affordable, Douglas is also an excellent choice.

Firmness

Juno is considered medium-firm, scoring a 6.0/10 for firmness. It offers a well-rounded combination of support and comfort that feels like a warm, gentle hug. Douglas is also a medium-firm mattress, but with a score of 6.7/10, feels slightly firmer than Juno.

Edge Support

Douglas sets itself apart with higher-than-average edge support, thanks to the all-around sidewalls. This mattress scored 7.8/10 for edge support. In comparison, Juno’s edge support score is a touch higher at 8.0/10. You can comfortably sit on the edge of your bed with either mattress.

Motion Isolation

In search of a foam mattress that offers exceptional motion isolation? Juno has an above-average motion isolation score of 6.2/10,  while Douglas scored higher at 8.3/10. On either mattress, you’re less likely to feel movement from the other side, though Douglas outperforms Juno here.

Bounce

Low bounce is good news if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken. Douglas scored 3.1/10 for bounce, while Juno has a lower bounce rating of 2.5/10. You might prefer a little extra bounce to help you more easily change positions during the night, making Douglas the better choice for you. Juno’s lower bounce score is great if you like to sink into your mattress a bit more.

Cooling Features

Douglas Original and Juno offer cooling features to help sleepers stay cool throughout the night. Juno earned a cooling features score of 3.7/10. This score is due to the mattress’s cooling cover made from special cooling yarn and a layer of cooling gel foam that keeps your sleep surface cool and promotes enhanced air circulation.

Douglas Original earned a higher cooling feature score of 4.2/10. This is due to its moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, a layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and a layer of breathable Elastex® foam, all of which promote cooling and air circulation.

Both Juno and Douglas are combination foam mattresses. While Juno contains two layers, Douglas uses three layers for comfort, transition, and support.

Douglas Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam, minus the late-night heat. It’s also more eco-conscious.
  • Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. This foam is latex-free, making it a good option if you’re sensitive to latex.
  • Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This means you’ll hardly feel a thing from the other side of the bed, even if your partner is tossing and turning all night long.

Juno Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer consists of 2″ of full-body cooling gel foam, giving you contoured comfort and a cool night’s sleep. It has a foam density of 2.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The support layer is 6″ of total support foam, which makes the mattress feel firmer, provides extra edge support, and reduces motion transfer from the other side of the bed. Its foam density is 1.85 lb/ft³.

Details about mattress composition and construction are easily shared by Juno and Douglas. For both mattresses, foam densities are 2.5 lb/ft³.

Juno’s cover design pays tribute to the classic striped wool socks that have been a staple in Canadian wardrobes for generations. Its knit material is made from polyester and viscose, with a prominent berry stripe along one end of the mattress.

The sustainable Infinitex™ fibres in Douglas’s cover keep the surface cool and dry. Unlike Juno, Douglas’s top cover can be removed and cleaned using a washing machine. It comes with a 360° zipper that makes taking it off your mattress and putting it back on fairly easy.
