Which Is Better: Endy, Silk & Snow, or Douglas?

Douglas, Endy, and Silk & Snow are three of the most well-known foam mattress brands available in Canada. But once you look more closely, there’s no comparison. Canadian-made Douglas is the clear winner with cooling gel memory foam, superior motion isolation and edge support, a 365-night sleep trial, and a 20-year warranty—all for the lowest price of $799 for a queen size.

In comparison, Endy and Silk & Snow provider fewer features at a higher cost. The Endy and S&S Mattress have limited cooling features. Endy comes with only a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. Silk & Snow offers a longer 365-night sleep trial, but has only a 15-year warranty that’s still shorter than Douglas’s.

It all adds up: Douglas gives you the most features and best value with a risk-free sleep trial and lengthy warranty, all for the lowest price. Douglas even comes with a free bedding bundle that includes a mattress protector, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and bedsheets.

Firmness

Douglas has a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for any sleep position, whether it’s on your back, side, or stomach. The mattress contours around your body with just the right amount of sink, providing pressure-relieving comfort and spinal alignment while allowing you to change sleep positions more easily. To balance out the sinking, Douglas’s cooling gel layer will also help you sleep comfortably all night long, without overheating.

In comparison, The Endy has extra softness from the top layer and a significant amount of sink. This means you will sink partway into the mattress when you lie down and could find it difficult to move—important to note if you like to sleep in more than one position. Because this mattress doesn’t have any cooling features, this extra sink means you may notice extra heat.

The S&S Mattress is even softer, with a medium feel and deep sink. This makes the mattress less than ideal for stomach sleepers, who might not get the support they need. Although the S&S Mattress has some cooling features, the amount of sinkage may still cause you to overheat.

Edge Support

Douglas sets itself apart from other foam mattresses with its exceptional edge support, thanks to the all-around sidewalls. With a superior edge support rating of 7.8/10, Douglas lets you comfortably sit on the bed’s edge with no worries about falling off. Better edge support is also important if you or a partner have mobility challenges getting into and out of bed.

The Endy has reasonably good edge support at 7.3/10, but it’s still lower than Douglas Original. Silk & Snow comes in last with an edge support score of 7.5/10. This means you could have trouble staying on the bed when you sit on the edge.

Motion Isolation

If you’re looking for a foam mattress with exceptional motion isolation, your search is over. Douglas is the clear winner with a remarkable rating of 8.3/10. If undisturbed sleep is important to you, this rating means you can enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets.

Silk & Snow has a good motion isolation score of 6.7/10, and Endy scored slightly lower at 7.4/10. Still, when you compare Silk and Snow vs Endy vs Douglas, Douglas is clearly the best mattress for motion isolation.

Bounce

Low bounce is important if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken. Douglas scored 3.1/10 for bounce, which is ideal for a foam mattress. This means you can change sleeping positions during the night and easily get out of bed, while still enjoying an undisturbed sleep.

Comparing the Endy mattress vs Silk and Snow, Endy scored a 5.5/10 for bounce. This is average for a foam mattress, but it may be too much if you’re often woken by your restless partner’s movements.

The Silk and Snow mattress had the lowest bounce rating of 2.7/10. With a lower score than Douglas, this mattress may make it a little harder for you to easily change positions or get out of bed.

Cooling Features

Foam mattresses can be known to trap heat, so many foam mattresses incorporate cooling technologies to keep your sleep comfortable. Douglas Original, The Endy, and Silk & Snow Original all incorporate cooling features in their construction, but some mattresses do more to stop you from sleeping hot than others.

The Endy earned a 0.8/10 cooling features score because of its layer of open-cell foam, which the company says promotes airflow and breathability. Silk & Snow Original performed somewhat better, with its gel-infused foam giving it a 1.2/10 cooling features score.

In comparison, Douglas Original earned a cooling features score of 4.2/10. Douglas’s moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and layer of breathable Elastex® foam all contributed to this score. If you’re looking for a great all-around mattress to help you sleep cool, you should definitely check out Douglas.

Douglas Original, The Endy, and the S&S Mattress are all combination foam mattresses containing 3 layers for comfort, transition, and support.

Douglas Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam, minus the late-night heat. It’s also more eco-conscious.
  • Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. This foam is latex-free, making it a good option if you’re sensitive to latex.
  • Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This means you’ll hardly feel a thing from the other side of the bed, even if your partner is tossing and turning all night long.

Endy Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The 2″ comfort layer is made of Endy Comfort Foam, which provides some “hug” with a fair bit of sink. Endy also claims that the foam’s open-cell design improves airflow and keeps you cool while you sleep.
  • Layer 2: The 3″ transition layer of foam helps provide pressure relief for a more comfortable, tension-free sleep.
  • Layer 3: The 5″ support layer is designed to reduce motion transfer. This is important if you’re a light sleeper and your partner tosses and turns in their sleep.

When MattressReviews.ca contacted Endy, the company declined to share any composition or density details about Endy Comfort Foam, other than saying it’s 100% polyurethane. Douglas, however, is open about its mattress construction and 2.5 lb/ft³ foam density.

Silk & Snow Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer features 2″ of high-density gel memory foam. This top layer helps relieve pressure points while letting you sink into the mattress.
  • Layer 2: The transition layer is 2″ of transition foam. This layer serves double duty by reinforcing the mattress’s motion-isolating qualities while being an extra buffer for the support layer below.
  • Layer 3: The support layer is made from 6″ of premium support foam. This bottom layer makes up the mattress’s foundation, keeping you from sinking too deep into the lower layers.

All three mattresses have a removable, machine-washable top cover. However, only Douglas has a cover made with plant-based Infinitex™ fibres. This proprietary fabric is stretch-knit, soft, and extremely durable. It also stays cool and breathable through the night so you won’t wake up in a pool of sweat.

Both Endy and Douglas ship by ground using FedEx, while Silk & Snow uses a variety of couriers. Once ordered, Douglas arrives at your door in 2–10 business days, while Endy arrives in 1–10 business days. Silk & Snow mattresses ship in 2–9 business days. All three mattresses can be delivered directly to your door throughout most parts of Canada. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations.

Douglas and Endy will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period and issue a full refund. Your old mattress will then be donated to a local charity.

Silk & Snow, on the other hand, has more restrictive terms and conditions. You need to provide three business days where you will be available for return pickup, within two weeks of when you initiate the return. You must be present on the pickup date to qualify for a full refund. Even then, a full refund doesn’t seem guaranteed—Silk & Snow has several negative reviews on BBB and Trustpilot about customers not receiving their full refund.

Endy offers a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty, while Silk & Snow has a 365-night trial and 15-year warranty. However, Douglas leads the way with a 365-night risk-free sleep trial and 20-year warranty—the longest warranty coverage of the three brands.
