Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Original scored 6.7/10 for firmness. The Endy scored 5.7/10, and The Casper scored 6.3/10. All three mattresses fall into the medium-firm category. This means each mattress is ideal for a wide range of sleep styles.

However, Douglas has the highest score and provides the most supportive feel, with a minimal amount of “hug.”

Edge Support

Foam mattresses aren’t generally known for good edge support, but Douglas sets itself apart with an exceptional edge support score of 7.8/10. Thanks to Douglas’s all-around sidewalls, you can comfortably sit or lie on the bed’s edge without any fears of tumbling over.

Looking at the Casper mattress vs Endy, the Endy mattress has an above-average edge support score of 7.3/10, while Casper scored slightly better at 7.5/10. However, Douglas still outscores both mattresses.

Motion Isolation

If you’re looking for a foam mattress with exceptional motion isolation, your search is over. In rating Endy vs Douglas vs Casper for motion isolation, Douglas is the best choice with a remarkable motion isolation score of 8.3/10. This means you can enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets when they decide to join you in bed.

Endy has a motion isolation score of 7.4/10 and The Casper mattress earned 6.6/10. Both scores are good, but they just don’t measure up to Douglas. If you value uninterrupted sleep, Douglas is your best bet.

Bounce

Low bounce is good news if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken. Comparing the Endy mattress vs Casper vs Douglas, Endy scored 5.5/10 for bounce, while The Casper mattress earned a lower 4.7/10. Douglas has the lowest bounce rating of all three mattresses at 3.1/10—a nice side effect of its excellent motion isolation.

Cooling Features

Both Casper and Endy are not designed with any advanced cooling features. The Endy, however, does advertise one cooling feature: its open-cell foam layer, which earned it a score of 0.8. The Casper mattress performed a little better, with a score of 2.5, as it has a few cooling features, such as open-cell foam in the comfort layer and perforations in the comfort layer, promoting airflow and breathability.

Only Douglas Original has advanced cooling features such as a CoolSense® cover, ecoLight® cooling gel foam layer, and a layer of Elastex, a breathable latex-like foam. All these features earned Douglas a score of 4.2. These scores indicate you’re more likely to have a cooler and more comfortable sleep on a Douglas Original.

Douglas, Endy, and Casper are all combination foam mattresses containing three layers for comfort, transition, and support.

Douglas Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam, minus the late-night heat. It’s also more eco-conscious.
  • Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. This foam is latex-free, making it a good option if you’re sensitive to latex.
  • Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This means you’ll hardly feel a thing from the other side of the bed, even if your partner is tossing and turning all night long.

Endy Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The 2″ comfort layer is made of Endy Comfort Foam, which provides some “hug” with a fair bit of sink. Endy also claims that the foam’s open-cell design improves airflow and keeps you cool while you sleep.
  • Layer 2: The 3″ transition layer of foam helps provide pressure relief for a more comfortable, tension-free sleep.
  • Layer 3: The 5″ support layer is designed to reduce motion transfer. This is important if you’re a light sleeper and your partner tosses and turns in their sleep.

Casper Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer includes 1″ of polyurethane foam, which uses open-cell perforations to enhance airflow. Casper says this feature promotes comfort and regulates body temperature during sleep.
  • Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 2″ of body-contouring memory foam. This supports your body and prevents long-term sagging in the middle of the mattress. However, memory foam is known for heat trapping, and there aren’t any advanced cooling features to cancel out that effect.
  • Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 7″ of dense polyurethane support foam. This foundational component maintains the mattress’s structure and support, ensuring that you won’t sink too far into the upper layers.

Endy and Douglas both have a machine-washable top cover. However, only Douglas has a cover made with plant-based Infinitex™ fibres. This proprietary fabric is stretch-knit, soft, and extremely durable. It also stays cool and breathable through the night so you won’t wake up in a pool of sweat.

Although the knit Casper mattress cover has a zipper, the company instructs you not to unzip the mattress cover and remove it for any reason. This means the cover is not machine-washable and is spot-clean only. Casper also declined to share any details about the mattress’s foam density.
