Novaform and Douglas are both all-foam mattresses with similar features. But only Douglas has cooling gel memory foam, superior motion isolation, a 365-night sleep trial, and a 20-year warranty. Douglas also comes with a free bedding bundle that includes a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s), giving you greater value at a comparable price.

Comparing the Novaform mattress to Douglas, Douglas provides balanced support, comfortable cooling, and pressure-point relief for all sleeping positions. Douglas also earned higher scores for edge support and motion isolation in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). It even comes with a significantly longer sleep trial (365 nights compared to Novaform’s 90-night trial) and a machine-washable cover for convenient cleaning.
In comparison, while Novaform has a slightly lower price tag, it doesn’t offer nearly as much value as Douglas. Novaform comes in a limited range of sizes, has a shorter sleep trial, and doesn’t come with a machine-washable cover or a bedding bundle.
The Novaform mattress also includes a fire sock, which is a fairly common safety feature. However, the mattress is made in the United States, where fire socks often contain fibreglass. The mattress was also included in a 2023 product recall.

This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Both Novaform ComfortGrande Plus and Douglas Original are medium-firm mattresses. This level of firmness is ideal for all sleep styles.
Novaform says the mattress will “hug” your body. However, memory foam is known for trapping heat, especially when you sink into the top layer. A number of Costco reviews even indicated sleepers experienced overheating.
In contrast, Douglas’s gel-infused foam gently contours around your body with minimal sinking, making it easier to change positions while you sleep. It also makes you less likely to overheat. The lack of “hug” in Douglas’s layers—as well as the cooling cover—should keep temperatures comfortable all night long.
Foam mattresses aren’t typically known for having high edge support. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Novaform ComfortGrande Plus earned a below-average edge support score of 3.5/10. This lower score means you might not get as much support from this mattress as you’d like.
Douglas Original stands out with an impressive edge support score of 7.8/10—more than twice as high as Novaform’s score. You’ll be able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed, and get out of bed more easily in the morning.
Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets. Douglas Original has an exceptional motion isolation score of 8.3/10. You can expect to sleep soundly and notice very little movement from the other side of the mattress.
In comparison, Novaform scored 6.5/10 for motion isolation. This is an above-average score. But if you want better motion isolation for the most undisturbed sleep, you’ll want to look at Douglas instead.
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce is good for a more undisturbed sleep—especially if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken—while higher bounce is better if you change sleep positions often.
Foam mattresses are known for having low bounce, and Novaform ComfortGrande Plus is no exception with a below-average bounce score of 3.2/10. With a less-responsive sleep surface, you might find it difficult to change sleep positions.
Douglas Original has a similarly low bounce score of 3.1/10. However, Douglas has a transition layer of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. You can enjoy a consistent sleep surface and an undisturbed rest, while still finding it easy to change sleep positions and get out of bed in the morning.
Douglas and Novaform feature cooling elements to help sleepers stay cool and comfortable throughout the night. Novaform earned a cooling features score of 3.2. This is due to the mattress’s cooling cover, which features polyethylene fibers, and its gel-infused foam layer.
Douglas Original earned a higher cooling feature score of 4.2/10. Douglas’s moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and layer of breathable Elastex® foam all contributed to this score. Douglas is the better choice if you’re looking for a refreshing mattress to keep temperatures balanced as you sleep.
Choose the mattress with superior motion isolation and edge support.

The foam density of all layers in the Novaform mattress is unknown. Douglas, on the other hand, is open about its mattress construction and 2.5 lb/ft³ foam density.
Both Novaform and Douglas have moisture-wicking top covers. But only Douglas’ CoolSense® top cover features plant-based Infinitex™ fibres in a stretch knit fabric that’s soft, breathable, and durable. It’s also machine washable for convenient cleaning.
Novaform’s quilted top cover isn’t machine washable. You should spot-clean this mattress only. Novaform’s website says customers should not remove the mattress cover, as this could risk voiding the warranty. Instead, follow the care instructions on the product’s sewn-in label.
The Novaform mattress includes a fire sock, which is a fairly common safety feature. However, the mattress is made in the United States, where fire socks often contain fibreglass. That makes it even more important not to remove the mattress cover to clean it.
Pick the cool, comfortable mattress with a machine-washable cover.

Douglas Original ships by ground for free using FedEx. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations. Your order ships from Ontario or Alberta and arrives right at your doorstep in 2–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time.
Novaform ComfortGrande Plus can be ordered online from Costco. Some Costco stores also carry it in stock. Costco offers free shipping and delivery to online customers with UPS or FedEx. They will set up your mattress and remove all packaging. However, Costco estimates it’ll take 10–15 business days for your mattress to arrive once it’s been ordered.
Both Novaform and Douglas are wrapped in two layers of heavy-duty plastic and packaged in a cardboard box. Once unrolled, Douglas fully expands within a few minutes, and is sleep-ready on delivery day. Novaform says you can sleep on their mattress as soon as it looks comfortable, although it may take up to 48 hours to fully expand.
The Novaform mattress comes with a 90-night sleep trial. While Costco is known for its open-ended return policy, it isn’t clear whether your return window closes after the 90-day period. If you bought the mattress online, Costco will pick up the return, but the process takes 3–4 weeks to complete. If you bought the mattress in-store, you’ll need to return it to the store yourself.
When it comes to Novaform vs Douglas’s sleep trial, there’s no comparison. You’ll enjoy four times the sleep trial period with a Douglas mattress—365 nights to see if the mattress is right for you. If you choose to return your mattress, Douglas will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period and issue a full refund. Just contact customer service to coordinate your return. Douglas will also donate your returned mattress to a local charity in your area.
Both Douglas Original and Novaform ComfortGrande Plus offer a 20-year warranty. However, a Reddit post suggests that getting a company to honour a 20-year warranty for a mattress bought at Costco may not be worth it. In addition to the hassle of returning the mattress themselves, total shipping costs would be almost as much as the mattress was worth. Novaform has a limited warranty, and the company will only offer one replacement during the warranty period.
Some reviews on Costco’s website indicate that the Novaform mattress tends to trap heat despite its cooling features. Other negative reviews are from customers who experienced back pain. And while Novaform ComfortGrande Plus was included in a 2023 product recall, there aren’t any Novaform mattress reviews on Trustpilot or BBB.
In comparison, Douglas has an excellent online reputation for product quality and customer care. The company is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB, with over 14,000 five-star reviews from verified customers.
