Which Is Better: Nectar or Douglas?

Douglas is the clear winner. Douglas is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau and “Excellent” on Trustpilot. Douglas is made in Canada and has better edge support, superior motion isolation, greater cooling features, and a competitive price at just $799 for a queen size. Nectar, on the other hand, has many poor customer reviews on Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot. This mattress is owned and distributed by Resident Home. Douglas Original’s strong sidewalls can easily support your full body weight. Douglas scored an above-average 7.8/10 for edge support—considerably higher than similar foam mattresses. You should be able to sit safely and comfortably on the side of the bed without falling off.

Douglas Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam, minus the late-night heat. It’s also more eco-conscious.
• Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. This foam is latex-free, making it a good option if you’re sensitive to latex.
• Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This means you’ll hardly feel a thing from the other side of the bed, even if your partner is tossing and turning all night long.

Nectar Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The 2″ comfort layer is made of plush gel memory foam that’s designed to provide pressure-relieving, body-contouring support. Foam density is unknown.
• Layer 2: The transition layer is 3″ of conventional foam that Nectar claims provides support, spinal alignment, and bounce. However, our independent testing showed that Nectar received a below-average bounce score of 3.6/10. The lower the bounce rating, the more difficult it may be to change sleeping positions. Foam density is reportedly 3.5 lb/ft³.
• Layer 3: The 7″ base layer is made of conventional foam, and Nectar says it has a density of 2.2 lb/ft³.

Only Douglas has a machine-washable top cover. Douglas’s cover also comes with advanced cooling features like plant-based, moisture-wicking Infinitex™ fibres.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Various deliver Nectar mattresses anywhere in Canada. Nectar Original is made in Mexico and should arrive within 3–7 business days, including time taken to dispatch the order. Douglas ships mattresses from Ontario or Alberta using FedEx, so you should receive your order within 2–10 business days, including dispatch time.

Douglas and Nectar arrive in a cardboard box. After you remove them from their plastic wrapping, both mattresses expand to their full height in minutes. You can sleep on the mattress the same night. It’s important to note that when our Nectar mattress arrived, it had already been boxed up for nine months before delivery.

Douglas and Nectar both offer a 365-night sleep trial. This is one of the longest trials available in Canada. Both companies will pick up returns for free and issue a full refund within the sleep trial period.

Nectar offers a “Lifetime” warranty. However, customers have left reviews on Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot where they report difficulties going through Nectar’s warranty process. This warranty excludes mattresses that haven’t been opened within 90 days of delivery. Nectar Original also doesn’t have features that could help you keep your mattress in good condition for longer, like a machine-washable cover.

In contrast, Douglas offers a 20-year warranty and comes with a machine-washable cover. Douglas also provides a free mattress protector in their bedding bundle to help you protect your mattress from accidental spills. This bedding bundle is free with every mattress purchase.
