The same can’t be said for the Emma Original, which scored a 0.1/10. It only features a layer of Airgocell foam. Emma advertises that this foam layer enhances breathability and regulates temperature, but the company doesn’t have any information available to clarify what the technology is and how it works.

• Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam, minus the late-night heat. It’s also more eco-conscious.
• Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. This foam is latex-free, making it a good option if you’re sensitive to latex.
• Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This means you’ll hardly feel a thing from the other side of the bed, even if your partner is tossing and turning all night long.

Emma Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: Emma Original’s comfort layer is 2″ of Airgocell® foam. Like cooling gel foam, this layer is designed to offer breathability and absorb your body’s heat to provide good temperature regulation so you can sleep undisturbed throughout the night.
• Layer 2: The mattress’s transition layer is 2″ of Halo Memory Foam™. It has three zones that offer full-body support. This layer is designed to respond slowly to movement, which provides extra motion isolation. It also contours to your body’s shape, keeps your spine aligned, and provides a “hugging” sensation.
• Layer 3: Emma Original’s base layer is 6″ of HRX, which stands for high resiliency extra base foam. This bottom layer is the base of the mattress and gives the Emma Original its structure. It also prevents you from sinking too deep into the mattress.

Both Emma and Douglas have a machine-washable top cover. However, only Douglas’s cover comes with advanced cooling features like plant-based, moisture-wicking Infinitex™ fibres.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Various couriers will deliver Emma mattresses anywhere in Canada. The mattress is made in Mexico and should arrive within 2–7 business days, including time taken to dispatch your order. Douglas ships mattresses from Ontario or Alberta using FedEx, so you should receive it within 2–10 business days, including dispatch time.

Douglas and Emma arrive in a cardboard box. After being removed from their plastic wrapping, both mattresses expand to their full height in minutes. You can sleep on the mattress the same night. With an Emma mattress, consider reaching out to the Emma support team to ensure the mattress was recently made. Imported mattresses can sit in warehouses for long periods of time, which may affect their performance.

Douglas and Emma both offer a 365-night sleep trial. This is one of the longest trials available in Canada. Both companies will pick up returns for free and issue a full refund within the sleep trial period.That said, Emma only offers a 10-year warranty. Douglas offers a much longer 20-year warranty to cover your mattress in case of manufacturer defects.
