Dormeo and Douglas are both foam mattress brands that are popular with Canadian shoppers. While Dormeo is known for its Octaspring technology, even its entry-level products come with a higher-than-average price tag.
Douglas, on the other hand, comes with better cooling features, superior motion isolation, a 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle, all at a much lower price. So when you’re comparing Dormeo vs Douglas, there’s really no comparison—Douglas is the clear winner.

This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Dormeo One comes in two firmness options: medium and firm. We purchased the medium mattress for this review. However, in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Dormeo scored 7.3/10. This places the mattress in the firm category—significantly firmer than advertised. Firm mattresses can work well for some sleepers, but side sleepers and people with lighter bodies may experience pressure points with a firm mattress.
In comparison, Douglas Summit scored 6.7/10, putting it in the medium-firm category. This level of firmness is preferred by many Canadians and can be enjoyed by most sleep styles, including side, back, and stomach sleepers.
Foam mattresses aren’t typically known for having great edge support. However, both Douglas and Dormeo have higher-than-average edge support scores.
Douglas Summit scored above average with a 7.5/10. Dormeo One also performed well when tested for edge support, with an excellent score of 9.3/10. You’ll feel comfortable sitting on the edge of either mattress, with no worries about falling off the edge.
Motion isolation is essential for a restful night’s sleep, especially if you share your bed with a partner, kids, or pets. Dormeo One scored well for motion isolation with a 7.2/10.
However, if you’re looking for a mattress that delivers exceptionally undisturbed sleep, Douglas Summit is the best choice, with its best-in-class motion isolation score of 8.8/10—the highest of any mattress we’ve ever tested.
Dormeo One scored 5.5/10 for bounce, which is slightly above average for a foam mattress. You shouldn’t have any trouble changing sleep positions, but you might notice your partner’s movements throughout the night.
Douglas Summit, on the other hand, has a below-average bounce rating of 3.0/10. Douglas’s low bounce rating is good news if you’re a light sleeper or someone who’s easily woken by your partner’s movements. No need to worry about changing positions, either—the transition layer of Elastex® foam is springy and responsive, making it easy to move as needed.
Douglas Summit and Dormeo One both offer cooling features to help sleepers stay comfortable throughout the night. But despite the company heavily promoting its advanced engineering, Dormone One only earned a cooling features score of 1.7/10. This score is due to the mattress’s Tencel cover, phase-change material to help dissipate heat, and Octaspring technology to promote air circulation.
The much more affordable Douglas Summit earned a higher cooling feature score of 5.4/10. This is due to its moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover woven with cooling nanofibres, a layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam enhanced with phase-change material, and a layer of breathable Elastex® foam, all promoting cooling and air circulation. With Douglas, you get more cooling features—all for a third of the price of Dormeo One.

The Douglas Summit CoolSense® cover is made from high-density polyethylene, polyester, and spandex. For added convenience, the Douglas mattress cover is removable and machine-washable.
It also features sustainable Infinitex™ fibers and CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, which efficiently wick away moisture from the mattress’s surface. Combined with the cooling gel foam in the top layer, the cover fabric will help keep you cool and dry all night.
Dormeo One’s hypoallergenic mattress cover is made of polyester, viscose (rayon), and spandex. While polyester and spandex are durable fabrics, they aren’t designed to provide cooling and could in fact trap heat.
Sleep Country states that the mattress cover contains phase-change material and Tencel, although the law label on the mattress we received doesn’t list either. Although the Dormeo cover has a zipper, it’s not machine washable, and Dormeo recommends against removing it.

Douglas ships by ground using FedEx. It will reach your doorstep in 2–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. Shipping is free, although additional fees may apply for some remote locations. Douglas arrives in a cardboard box protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic.
Dormeo One is available through retailers like Sleep Country Canada, which is who we ordered from. Sleep Country offers free shipping for orders over $75 to most Canadian locations, although a $120 surcharge will apply for some remote locations. The mattress should arrive at your doorstep within 3–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. It will come fully expanded and wrapped in a sheet of heavy-duty plastic.
Warranty and returns are very different for Douglas vs Dormeo. Douglas comes with a 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty, which is among the best in Canada. You can return your mattress anytime after 21 nights and receive a full refund with free mattress pickup.
Dormeo, on the other hand, only offers a 100-day exchange period and a 10-year warranty. Dormeo’s warranty explicitly doesn’t cover normal wear and tear or incidental damage. There’s also a separate 1-year warranty for Dormeo One’s mattress cover, giving you far less coverage for an essential part of the mattress.
Sleep Country doesn’t provide refunds for mattress returns. If you decide to return Dormeo, you can only exchange your mattress within 100 days for in-store credit. You’ll pay a $65 exchange fee to cover the costs of switching mattresses, and you’ll need to pay the difference if you choose a more expensive mattress. Sleep Country also doesn’t offer mattress pickup, so you must return the mattress to the store by yourself.
