If you’re searching for a mattress made by a Canadian company, the choice is between Douglas and Casper. Douglas is Canadian-founded and owned, and handmakes their mattresses domestically. Casper, although founded in the United States, had its Canadian operations acquired by Sleep Country Canada. A Casper Canada representative confirmed that most of their mattresses are now made in Canada. The Casper we reviewed and tested was still made in the US at the time of purchase.
Nectar, on the other hand, is an American company. They currently manufacture their mattresses for their Canadian customers in Mexico, according to nectarsleep.ca. Mattresses ordered from nectarsleep.com, the company’s American website, will be made in Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Mexico, the USA, or another country. Resident Home, Nectar’s parent company, has previously faced charges from the FTC for false “Made in the USA” claims.

Foam mattresses aren’t generally known for having good edge support. However, Douglas sets itself apart with its exceptional edge support, thanks to the all-around sidewalls. With a superior edge support rating of 7.8/10, Douglas lets you comfortably sit or lie on the bed’s edge without any fear of slipping off.
Casper also received a very good score for edge support at 7.5/10. While this is a good score, it’s still lower than Douglas’s. When comparing Douglas and Casper vs Nectar, however, Nectar falls short with a score of just 1.9/10 for edge support.
If you’re searching for a foam mattress with excellent motion isolation, Douglas comes out on top with a score of 8.3/10. This should help ensure a restful sleep, undisturbed by your partner’s movements. Casper scored lower at 6.6/10, and Nectar scored the lowest at 5.0/10. Both mattresses offer some motion isolation, but they just don’t measure up to Douglas.
Low bounce is important if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken. Comparing Nectar vs Casper, Casper scored a 4.7/10 for bounce, which is average for a foam mattress. The Nectar mattress had a lower bounce score of 3.6/10. However, Douglas has the lowest bounce score of all three mattresses at 3.1/10—a nice side benefit of its excellent motion isolation.
Foam mattresses can be known to trap heat, so most modern foam mattresses incorporate cooling features to help ensure breathability and airflow for comfortable sleep. Douglas, Casper, and Nectar all feature cooling elements in their foam layers—but some mattresses have more features than others.
Nectar Original earned a cooling features score of 2.4/10 because of its cool-to-the-touch cover and gel-infused foam layer. The Casper performed similarly, with its open-cell foam and perforated foam layer earning a score of 2.5/10.
Douglas Original was the top performer for cooling features with a score of 4.2/10. Douglas’s moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, a layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and a layer of breathable Elastex® foam all contributed to this score. If you’re looking for a refreshing mattress to keep temperatures balanced as you sleep, Douglas is your best choice.

Douglas Original, The Casper, and Nectar Original are all combination foam mattresses with three layers each. At different heights and with different materials, these mattresses feature layers for comfort, transition, and support.
Douglas Original’s top cover is removable and machine washable for easy care. It’s also made using plant-based Infinitex™ fibres that wick moisture and help keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night.
The Casper’s top cover isn’t removable despite having a zipper. This means the cover isn’t machine washable, so you should spot-clean it in the case of spills or stains.
The Nectar’s top cover is made of polyester, nylon, and polyethylene to create a cool-to-the-touch feel. While the Nectar mattress cover shows an icon of a washing machine and features the words “machine-washable”, Nectar’s warranty says that removing the cover will void your warranty. To avoid voiding your warranty, you should spot-clean this mattress.
Pick Douglas, the mattress with a cooling, machine-washable cover.

Douglas ships its mattresses for free to most locations in Canada using FedEx. Nectar ships using various couriers but doesn’t deliver to Nunavut. Casper delivers its mattresses through UPS. For all three mattress brands, additional fees may apply for some remote locations and may result in longer shipping times.
Since Douglas mattresses are made in Canada, any mattresses ordered will ship from their warehouses in Ontario and Alberta. Before Casper’s Canadian operations were acquired by Sleep Country Canada, many of their models were made in the United States, like The Casper mattress we tested and reviewed. However, a Casper Canada representative confirmed to us that now, most of their mattress models are manufactured in Canada.
According to the Canadian Nectar website, its current models are being made in Mexico. The American Nectar website has an FAQ that states the company manufactures its mattresses in Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Mexico, and the United States. (Nectar’s parent company, Resident Home LLC, has previously faced charges from the FTC for making false “Made in the USA” claims. They were asked to pay $753,000 to settle the charges.)
While Casper mattresses take anywhere from 5–15 business days to arrive, your Douglas mattress will arrive at your door in 2–10 business days. Nectar mattresses will be delivered in 3–7 business days.
All three mattresses come compressed and rolled in heavy-duty plastic and packaged in a convenient cardboard box. Once unpacked, the Douglas and Casper mattresses expand in minutes, while Nectar Original takes up to 72 hours to fully expand.

When comparing Douglas vs Casper vs Nectar, they all offer different sleep trial and warranty lengths. Douglas offers a generous 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty. Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty. If you purchase your Casper mattress through Sleep Country, you’ll only be eligible for exchanges, not a full refund. Nectar Original will come with a 365-night sleep trial and lifetime warranty.
Nectar is rated “Average” on Trustpilot, and has only a 3.32/5 star rating with the Better Business Bureau with over 400 complaints filed by customers in the last 3 years.
Casper only has an American BBB profile, which is rated “A+” (unaccredited) with a 1.17/5 star rating. Despite having separate Canadian and American operations, Casper has just one combined Trustpilot page which is rated “Poor”. Casper Canada’s parent company, Sleep Country, has an average customer review rating of 1.27/5 stars on BBB despite its “A+” (unaccredited) rating, and is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot.
In comparison, Douglas maintains a rating of “Excellent” on Trustpilot and its parent company, GoodMorning.com, is rated “A+” on BBB with a 4.89/5 star customer review rating.
