Mattress Breakdown

Juno offers a well-rounded combination of balanced support and comfort that feels like a gentle hug, without a “sinking” feeling. This mattress also has a cooling gel foam layer to help you sleep more comfortably. Juno has exceptional edge support and a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for all sleep positions. It also comes with a 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty.

Bloom River includes a thin layer of gel memory foam, as well as aerated foam infused with bamboo charcoal. This mattress’s firmer feel is mainly suited for back and stomach sleepers. Bloom River also comes with a shorter 100-night sleep trial and only a 5-year warranty—a full 10 years shorter than Juno’s warranty.

Firmness

In independent, third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Bloom River scored 7.4/10 for firmness. This firm feel may be enjoyed by stomach sleepers, but is likely too firm for side and back sleepers.

In comparison, the Juno mattress is considered medium-firm, based on its score of 6.0/10. It offers a well-rounded combination of support and comfort that feels like a warm, gentle hug with minimal sink. The lack of “hug” in Juno’s layers—as well as the optional cooling cover and layer of cooling gel foam—should keep temperatures comfortable all night long.

Edge Support

Foam mattresses aren’t typically known for having high edge support, but Juno stands out with an excellent edge support rating of 8.0/10. You’ll be able to sit or sleep comfortably on the edge of the bed, and get up more easily in the morning.

Bloom River is more typical of most foam mattresses, with an edge support rating of 5.7/10. This score means you should be fairly comfortable sitting on the edge of the bed, but Bloom River may not be the right fit if you need more support.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets. Bloom has better-than-average motion isolation, at 6.8/10. This is an acceptable score, meaning you can expect to sleep soundly and not notice most movements from the other side of the mattress.

Juno performed similarly well with a score of 6.2/10. You should experience minimal disturbance from any partners or pets, and be able to get a restful night’s sleep on either mattress.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce is good for a more undisturbed sleep—especially if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken—while higher bounce is better if you often change sleep positions. Foam mattresses often have high motion isolation scores, which results in low bounce ratings. Bloom River’s bounce score is average for a foam mattress at 3.3/10.

A low bounce score paired with good motion isolation makes for fewer disturbances during the night. If you’re looking for a mattress with even lower bounce, you might prefer Juno with its bounce score of 2.5/10.

Both Juno and Bloom River are combination foam mattresses. The Canadian-made Juno mattress has 2 layers, while Bloom River has 3 layers and is made in countries like Spain and China.

Juno Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer consists of 2″ of full-body cooling gel foam, giving you contoured comfort and a cool night’s sleep. It has a foam density of 2.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The support layer is 6″ of total support foam, which makes the mattress feel firmer, provides extra edge support, and reduces motion transfer from the other side of the bed. Its foam density is 1.85 lb/ft³.

Bloom Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: Bloom River’s comfort layer is 0.75″ of gel memory foam. This layer is designed to provide immediate comfort when you lie down and keep you cool throughout the night.
  • Layer 2: The mattress’s transition layer is 2.5″ of convoluted foam. While this layer looks like an egg carton, its job is to create air channels that allow warm air to escape.
  • Layer 3: The third and final layer of Bloom River is 3.75″ of support base foam. Infused with bamboo charcoal to help manage odours, this thin base layer creates the mattress’s structure.

Numerous customers left reviews on Sleep Country’s website noting Bloom River is thin and doesn’t properly support them, and it feels like the foam is low-quality. A number of other reviews note that Bloom never expanded to its full height.

Juno’s top cover isn’t removable and should be spot-cleaned only. We’d recommend the same for Bloom, even though Sleep Country states on its website that the Bloom mattress cover is removable and machine washable. When we removed the Bloom mattress cover, we found a protective layer that looked like a fire sock. And when we cut open the sock to reach the inner foam layers, particles from the sock landed on the floor and shattered.

The presence of shattered fragments from fabric could be indicative of fibreglass in the Bloom mattress, which can be harmful to the eyes and skin. We couldn’t find a label within the mattress that describes what materials are used in the fire sock. Bloom River is made in countries like China and Spain, where it’s more common to use fibreglass in a mattress as an inexpensive fire retardant.

Sleep well with the best-value Canadian-made mattress.

Free pickup and return, full refund

$65 exchange fee, in-store credit only

Juno ships by ground for free using FedEx. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations. Your order ships from Ontario or Alberta in 3–10 business days, and is delivered right to your door throughout most of Canada.

Bloom River can be ordered online from Sleep Country. The company offers free shipping on orders over $75 and delivers to your front door with its standard delivery service. Sleep Country’s website says mattresses-in-a-box are shipped via courier and arrive within 3–5 business days.

Both Bloom and Juno are wrapped in heavy-duty plastic and packaged in a cardboard box. Once unrolled, Juno fully expands within a few minutes, and is sleep-ready on delivery day. Bloom says you can sleep on the mattress as soon as it looks comfortable, but it may take up to 48 hours to expand. However, some Bloom mattress reviews on the Sleep Country website noted that the mattress didn’t fully expand or is thinner than advertised.

The Bloom mattress comes with an industry-average 100-night sleep trial. However, if you want to return your Bloom mattress, you won’t get your money back—you’ll have to pay a $65 fee and can either exchange it for another mattress, or receive in-store credit.

Bloom River comes with a 5-year warranty. This is the shortest warranty of any Bloom mattress, which raises questions about the product’s quality. Sleep Country has also received a significant number of complaints on its website, BBB profile, and Trustpilot profile (where Sleep Country has a “Poor” rating) sharing concerns about warranty claims being honoured.

In comparison, Juno offers a risk-free 120-night sleep trial to test the mattress at home. If you choose to return your mattress, Juno will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period and issue a full refund. They will also donate your returned mattress to a local charity in your area. Just contact customer service to coordinate your return. The company also offers a 15-year warranty—three times as long as Bloom’s.

Juno has an excellent online reputation for product quality and customer care. The company is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB, with over 6,000 on-site reviews from verified customers.
