Douglas Original is a combination foam mattress with cooling gel foam, a machine-washable cover, balanced support, a 365-night sleep trial, and a 20-year warranty. Bloom Cloud has zoned support, a copper-infused machine-washable cover, a 100-night exchange-only period, and a 10-year warranty. There’s no comparison between the two—Douglas is the clear winner.
Only Douglas features impressive edge support, superior motion isolation, and pressure-point relief. It has a much longer warranty and sleep trial, with the option to return your mattress for a full refund. Douglas Original is also more affordably priced at just $799 for a queen size, compared to $1,199 for Bloom Cloud.
Your Douglas mattress even comes with a free bedding bundle that includes a mattress protector, pillow(s), bed sheets, and pillow protector(s).

Douglas Original features impressive edge support, superior motion isolation, a 365-night sleep trial with free return pickup and full refund, and a 20-year warranty. Douglas also has an excellent online reputation for product quality and customer care. The company is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB. Douglas has earned over 16,300+ five-star reviews from verified customers.
Bloom Cloud has above-average motion isolation, but it doesn’t measure up to Douglas. Neither does Bloom’s warranty, which is only 10 years. Bloom also has a much shorter sleep trial of just 100 nights. Really, this is just an exchange period—you can only exchange your mattress with another one from Sleep Country. A $65 exchange fee applies and you have to transport the mattress back to the store yourself.
Bloom Cloud has fewer than 300 reviews on Sleep Country’s website. A more balanced assessment comes from reviews on sites like Trustpilot, where Sleep Country is rated “Poor” based on more than 1,200 reviews. Sleep Country’s Better Business Bureau profile is rated “A+” (unaccredited), with a customer review rating of 1.27/5 stars at the time of writing. Both Bloom Cloud and Douglas Original are medium-firm mattresses. This level of firmness is ideal for all sleep styles.
The Bloom mattress has some “hug” when you lie down on it. You should feel a bit less sinkage under your hips and stomach, thanks to the reinforced synthetic latex foam in the centre third of the mattress. However, you may sleep hotter on Bloom Cloud, because your body will sink into the mattress and memory foam is known for trapping heat.
Douglas Original, on the other hand, gently contours around your body with minimal sinking and exceptional pressure-point relief. This makes it easy to change positions while you sleep. The lack of “hug” in Douglas’s layers—as well as the cooling cover and layer of cooling gel foam—should keep temperatures comfortable all night long.
Foam mattresses aren’t typically known for having high edge support. But Douglas Original sets a high bar with an impressive edge support rating of 7.8/10. You’ll be able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed, and get out of bed more easily in the morning.
Bloom, on the other hand, scored a lower edge support rating of 5.7/10. You should be able to sit on the edge of the bed without sliding off. However, if you have mobility issues, like to sit on the edge of the bed, or find yourself sleeping near the edge of the mattress, Douglas is a better choice.
Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets. In comparing Douglas vs Bloom, Douglas Original has an exceptionally high motion isolation score of 8.3/10. You can expect to sleep soundly and not notice any movement from the other side of the mattress.
Bloom Cloud has an above-average motion isolation score of 6.8/10. This should help keep you from noticing much movement from the other side of the bed. Still, if you’re looking for exceptional motion isolation for the most undisturbed sleep, you should look at Douglas instead.
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce is a good thing if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken, while higher bounce is ideal if you often change sleep positions.
Both Bloom and Douglas scored below average for bounce. This is typical for all-foam mattresses. Bloom Cloud earned a bounce score of 3.3/10, while Douglas scored slightly lower at 3.1/10. Even with Douglas’s lower score, you’ll likely find it easier to change sleep positions and get out of bed with this mattress, thanks to the Elastex® transition layer that provides extra spring and support.
Douglas Original and Bloom Cloud both offer cooling features to help sleepers stay comfortable throughout the night. Bloom Cloud earned a cooling feature score of 4.4/10. This is due to its organic cotton cover with copper infusion, gel-infused foam, synthetic latex foam, and aerated foam layers.
The Douglas Original earned a slightly lower cooling feature score of 4.2/10. This is due to its moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and layer of breathable Elastex® foam, all of which promote cooling and air circulation. With Douglas, you get similarly effective cooling features—all for hundreds of dollars less than the Bloom Cloud.
Choose the mattress with superior edge support and motion isolation.

Both Douglas Original and and Bloom Cloud are combination foam mattresses with cooling gel foam. But while Bloom Cloud has cooling gel in 2 of its 3 memory foam layers, this may not be enough to cancel out the heat-trapping effects of memory foam. Bloom also doesn’t address potential overheating with any other cooling features.
With Douglas Original, there’s no need to worry about heat trapping. Douglas helps keep temperatures comfortable with a moisture-wicking mattress cover and a 2″ layer of cooling gel foam.
Douglas Original’s cover design pays homage to the brand’s Canadian roots, with its red-and-white colour profile and mountainscape stitching. Made with moisture-wicking, plant-based Infinitex™ fibres, the CoolSense® top cover features a stretch knit fabric that’s soft, breathable, and durable to help you sleep cool all night long. Best of all, the cover is removable and machine-washable.
Bloom Cloud’s white top cover is machine washable. This organic cotton cover is also infused with copper, which the company claims will help the mattress stay fresh and odourless. The mattress interior contains a rayon fire sock to meet fire safety regulations—a requirement for mattresses made in the United States.
Keep temperatures comfortable with Douglas’s cooling features.
