Standard Bed-In-a-Box With Upgrade Fees

The S&S Mattress is an updated version of the company’s first mattress, Silk & Snow Original. This memory foam mattress is available in two firmness options: firm and medium-firm. The medium-firm option we purchased for this review is priced at $800 for a queen size. It’s available through the Silk & Snow website and at Sleep Country.

The firm option is priced lower at $700 for a queen size. This means you’re paying an extra $100 for a mattress that fits all sleep styles, but the only difference is an extra layer of foam. The mattress also lacks cooling features found in competitor mattresses like Douglas Original, meaning you could notice overheating while sleeping on The S&S mattress.

Silk & Snow has limited customer reviews and a very good star rating for the S&S Mattress on its website. However, this doesn’t match feedback shared on third-party review sites like Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot. Customers have reported significant issues with product quality, warranty claims, and returns, as well as difficulty contacting customer service.

Foam Mattress with Limited Features

Endy, an online mattress brand owned by Sleep Country Canada, offers a combination foam mattress with one firmness level. At $895 for a short queen, the mattress may not be affordable for some Canadians.

While Endy promises great comfort for its price point, it’s important to note that there isn’t much that sets it apart from other mattress brands on the market. For its price, you might expect more premium features to justify the cost.

Looking for more premium features with better value for your money? Consider competitor brands like Douglas instead.

Bloom Earth is an entry-level value foam mattress with a medium-soft feel. It includes a gel memory foam layer and foam infused with bamboo charcoal to help manage odours. Bloom Earth is sold online by Sleep Country for $599 for a queen size.

While this affordable mattress might seem appealing, you could end up paying more than you expect if you purchase Bloom Earth. Sleep Country doesn’t offer returns, only exchanges for store credit with a $65 fee. When you choose your new mattress, you’ll need to pay the price difference out of pocket.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is an RV mattress?

Most RVs don’t have room for standard mattress sizes, so you’ll need a mattress that’s no more than 75″ long and narrower than your mattress at home. Width can vary depending on the size of the bed frame. Common camper mattress sizes include:

  • RV bunk small measures 28″ wide by 75″ long. This RV mattress size will only accommodate a single person.
  • RV three-quarter measures 48″ wide by 75″ long. You might be able to squeeze two average-sized people onto this mattress, but it’ll be a cozy fit.
  • RV short queen measures 60″ wide by 75″ long. This is the same width as a standard queen-size mattress but is five inches shorter. A short queen mattress has enough room for two people of average height.

Depending on your RV, you may need a less-popular RV mattress size like short king or Olympic queen. These can be more difficult to find. To get a better idea of mattress sizes that will work for you—and fit in your RV—check out our guide to RV mattress sizes.

How much does an RV mattress cost?

Plan to spend $399–$1,500 on an RV mattress, depending on the size and brand you choose. Some brands, like Douglas and Juno, add even more value to your purchase with a free bedding bundle.

Douglas Original—our top pick overall for Best RV Mattress Canada—is just $799 for a short queen RV mattress. It has all the features you’re looking for in a medium-firm combination foam mattress. Douglas also offers a 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty—the longest of all the RV mattresses we reviewed.

Juno, our second pick for best mattress for RV, is the lowest-priced RV mattress on our list. At just $499 for a short queen, Juno is a budget-friendly mattress featuring combination foam and cooling gel foam. You can also add an optional Cool+ cover for even more cooling comfort. Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty.

What is the best RV mattress in Canada?

Douglas Original is our number-one pick for the best RV mattress in Canada. In fact, our expert mattress testers chose Douglas as the best mattress in Canada overall. This medium-firm, cooling gel foam mattress is ideal for all sleep styles. Douglas Original provides superior edge support, exceptional motion isolation, and pressure-point relief for all sleeping positions.

Douglas Original received top scores for its use of high-quality, eco-conscious materials and excellent value at just $799 for a short queen RV mattress size. It comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.

The company has a strong online reputation for quality, with a Trustpilot score of “Excellent” and an “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau. Douglas has also earned over 16,300+ verified five-star reviews from happy customers.

What’s the most affordable RV mattress in Canada?

Juno is the most affordable RV mattress in Canada and is one of Canada’s best affordable mattresses overall, according to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us).

This budget-friendly combination foam mattress is packed with value at just $499 for a short queen. Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty. You also get a free bedding bundle that includes a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s).

What’s the best short queen RV mattress in Canada?

Canada’s best short queen RV mattress is also the best queen mattress: Douglas Original. Douglas received top scores for its extensive list of features and excellent value at just $799 for a short queen RV mattress. It comes with a 365-night sleep trial, 20-year warranty, and free bedding bundle with your purchase.

The RV version of Douglas Original is the same great mattress that’s earned over 16,300+ five-star company ratings from happy customers. Only the mattress dimensions are different. The company has a Trustpilot score of “Excellent” and is rated “A+” with the Better Business Bureau.

Can I store my RV mattress in my RV over the winter if I’m not using it?

It’s not a good idea to keep your mattress in the RV during cold weather, especially if your RV is being stored outdoors. Temperatures can fluctuate significantly, especially here in Canada, and that’s hard on both foam layers and metal coils.

We recommend bringing your mattress indoors for the winter to avoid temperature changes and ensure a great sleep for many years to come.

What are the different types of mattresses?

Mattresses fall into many different categories. Each has different characteristics that are a good fit for a variety of sleep styles. Here are just a few types of mattresses:

  • Hybrid: Hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove combine innerspring layers with foam or latex for a perfect pairing of contour and support. They tend to have better edge support and lower temperatures than memory foam, but this comes with reduced motion isolation for a slightly less peaceful sleep. (Shopping for a hybrid? Check out our list of the best hybrid mattresses.)
  • Cooling Gel Foam: Some sleepers find normal memory foam too hot, so cooling gel foam mattresses like Douglas can be a great alternative. This type of mattress combines memory foam with cooling gel to keep temperatures comfortable while you sleep.
  • Innerspring: Innerspring mattresses support your weight with metal coils. This makes the mattress bouncy and provides good edge support, but you might find this type of mattress less comfortable if your body needs more contouring.
  • Memory Foam: Memory foam mattresses like Octave “hug” your body to relieve pressure and keep your spine aligned. They often incorporate zoned support, which can help relieve sore joints and provide other health benefits. In fact, the brand states that 86% of customers suffering from back pain said Octave helped reduce their pain.
  • Latex: Natural or synthetic latex mattresses can relieve pressure in any sleep position. They have a reputation for comfortable temperatures and can last longer than other types of mattresses. However, latex mattresses can also be more expensive and may not be ideal for some people with latex allergies.

Foam and combination foam mattresses are the best and most affordable types of RV mattresses. Unless you’re looking at a custom mattress, foam mattresses are also the easiest to find. Not all mattress types are available in all RV sizes.

What should I look for when choosing an RV mattress?

When you’re choosing a mattress, it’s important to consider more than just how comfortable it is. There are a whole range of factors to keep in mind, which we list below. (And when you’re ready to buy, make sure you buy a mattress online vs. in store.)

  • Budget: Set a budget for your new mattress and stick to it. You might even be able to make this budget go further by finding limited-time deals and promotions online.
  • Construction: Figure out what type of mattress you want, whether it’s foam, hybrid, or innerspring. There are pros and cons for each construction style, and knowing what you want will help narrow down your options.
  • Firmness: Choose a mattress with the right firmness level for your sleep style—that is, whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach. For example, side sleepers often want a softer mattress, while back sleepers may prefer something firmer. (Did you know that a medium-firm feel is ideal for most sleep styles? Get our guide to the best medium-firm mattresses.)
  • Pressure-Point Relief: Got achy joints? How about a sore back? If you do, look for a mattress with enhanced pressure-point relief so you sleep better at night. Octave Vista comes with five body-contouring support zones to aid in your body’s natural recovery and help you wake up pain-free the next day.
  • Motion Isolation: Pay close attention to motion isolation if you share your bed with a partner, kids, or pets. The higher the isolation score, the less you’ll notice movement from the other side of the bed.
  • Edge Support: Are you in the habit of sitting or sleeping near the edge of the bed? Look for a mattress with good edge support so you feel supported in any position.
  • Bounce: If you have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, you might prefer a mattress with extra bounce. (Your inner child will enjoy it, too!)
  • Contouring: Contouring materials like memory foam help support your body in all the right places. That said, too much “hug” can cause overheating and make it hard to move, so find the level of contouring that’s best for your body.
  • Temperature: Speaking of overheating—if you’re a warm sleeper, look for a mattress that promotes airflow and reduces heat. Look for a mattress with cooling gel foam and other cooling technologies.
  • Responsiveness: A responsive mattress allows you to change positions without feeling stuck. Often found in hybrid designs, a responsive mattress can help you enjoy certain activities in bed even more.
  • Noise: Nobody likes a squeaky or crinkly mattress. Get a quiet night’s sleep with a mattress made from noise-quieting materials like foam or latex.
  • Company Policies: Get details about the manufacturer’s sleep trial, return policy, and product warranty so you know what you’re getting into.
