What is the best pocket coil mattress in Canada?

Logan & Cove Choice is the best pocket coil mattress in Canada, according to our rating system that factors in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). Logan & Cove earned this title due to its advanced cooling features, luxury details, 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and affordable price of just $999 for a queen size.

Logan & Cove Choice

Our expert mattress testers chose the Logan & Cove Choice mattress as the Best Pocket Coil Mattress in Canada.

A pocket coil mattress is made with metal coils individually encased in a fabric sleeve. This allows the coils to move independently, which reduces noise and improves motion isolation for a more restful sleep.

Pocket coils are becoming increasingly popular in hybrid and innerspring mattresses. But with so many options to choose from, how do you know which pocket coil mattress is best?

At MattressReviews.ca, we’ve objectively ranked the best pocket coil mattresses in Canada by reviewing factors that matter to you, like price, firmness, edge support, sleep trial length, warranty, and more.

Canada’s Best Luxury Hybrid Mattress

Logan & Cove Choice is a medium-firm hybrid mattress that works well with all sleep styles. It’s especially ideal for side sleepers, back pain sufferers, and those with annoying pressure points.

The mattress comes with a generous 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty—much longer than the industry average. Choice offers multiple advanced cooling technologies, including CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibers and ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam. Its four-layer design includes a cutting-edge three-zone coil support system, sturdy edge support foam, and a quilted tight-top cover with luxury detailing.

This mattress is also more accessibly priced than other luxury hybrid mattresses, which can cost thousands of dollars. At just $999 for a queen size, Logan & Cove Choice is a wise investment for any bedroom.

Hybrid Mattress with Limited Features

Original Hamuq Hybrid is a medium-firm hybrid mattress made in Canada. It combines double-tempered steel coils with hypoallergenic materials and a plush Euro-top. Original Hamuq Hybrid is available online from Hamuq’s website at $899 for a queen size.

This mattress has good edge support, excellent motion isolation, and zoned support. However, Hamuq only offers a 120-night sleep trial—not much time to decide whether you want to keep the mattress. Hamuq also has a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot, no Better Business Bureau profile, and few verified customer reviews on third-party review platforms.

In comparison, competing hybrid mattress Logan & Cove Choice has advanced cooling features like CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, as well as a longer 365-night sleep trial. Logan & Cove is also rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB.

An Average Bed-In-a-Box Hybrid

S&S Hybrid is a Euro-top hybrid mattress available in two firmness options: medium-firm and plush. The medium-firm option we purchased for this review costs $900 for a queen size. You’ll have to pay an additional $550 if you want the plush version or added cooling features, increasing your grand total to $1,450.

Although the mattress comes with a 15-year warranty and a 365-night sleep trial, you could encounter difficulties filing a warranty claim or initiating a return. Many customers have reported issues with product quality, returns, warranty claims, and even just getting ahold of customer service for the warranty and return process. This concerning feedback doesn’t line up with S&S Hybrid’s near-perfect star rating on the company’s website.

In comparison, competitor hybrid mattress Logan & Cove Choice offers more value. At $999 for a queen size, Choice comes with built-in advanced cooling features, a 365-night sleep trial, and a 15-year warranty. The company also has a much higher rating on Better Business Bureau compared to Silk & Snow.

Hybrid Mattress With Limited Cooling and Constant “Sales”

Emma Hybrid Comfort is a hybrid mattress with open-cell foam for cooling, zoned support for pressure-point relief, and a machine-washable cover. However, compared to other hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove Choice, Emma Hybrid Comfort lacks the advanced cooling features we would expect from a mattress that costs $1,487 for a queen size.

The manufacturer has also faced scrutiny for its retail practices, like running continuous “sales.” Consumer reviews on third-party websites like Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot have raised concerns about the company’s customer service practices.

Hybrid Latex Mattress Starting at $1,100

Haven LUX Hybrid is a luxury hybrid latex mattress available in two firmness options. It has a pillow top, advanced cooling features, and two coil layers for extra body-contouring comfort.

However, Haven LUX Hybrid’s price point limits its accessibility. At $1,950 for a queen size, this mattress is one of the higher-priced hybrid mattresses sold in Canada. If you’re in search of a quality hybrid mattress without breaking the bank, consider Logan & Cove Choice at a lower price point of $999 for a queen size.

Entry-Level Hybrid Mattress

DreamCloud is one of many brands under Resident, who is self-billed as “America’s #1 Mattress Company.” However, Resident has made false claims about manufacturing DreamCloud mattresses entirely in the US.

This entry-level mattress is available in-store and online for $899 for a queen size. While its 1% cashmere cover and lifetime warranty are upscale features that make DreamCloud Hybrid look desirable, it falls short in areas like edge support and zoned coils. Some customer reviews also report difficulty getting DreamCloud to honour warranty claims.

Expensive Organic Mattress

The Avocado Green mattress boasts organic materials and sustainable construction. The base model (Standard) has a firm feel and costs $2,799 for a queen size—considerably pricier than other hybrids. You can also buy an optional pillow-top upgrade for a Medium feel for an extra $300–600, depending on the mattress size.

Avocado Green has above-average motion isolation and a higher-than-normal level of bounce compared to similar hybrids. However, it has exceptionally poor edge support, no cooling features, and restrictive sleep trial conditions. This makes competing hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove Choice more appealing.

Hybrid Mattress with Significant Sink

Endy Hybrid is an online-only hybrid mattress distributed by Sleep Country Canada, available in one firmness level. This mattress sells for $1,295 for a queen size, which may not be an accessible price for some Canadians. It also doesn’t offer many premium features that competitor mattresses provide.

If you weigh more than 115 lb or sleep on your stomach, you might find yourself sinking into this mattress too much and feel discomfort from improper spinal alignment.

Expensive, Hard-to-Get Innerspring Mattress

Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that comes in multiple firmness options. This mattress features two coil layers and excellent edge support. However, it has limited features and lacks the cooling we would expect to see in a mattress that costs $2,933 for a queen size.

This mattress can only be purchased directly from Saatva, which no longer ships to Canada. Saatva offers a 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty, but it’s unclear whether Saatva will honour these policies for Canadians. Overall, Saatva’s high price tag, lack of extra features, and limited availability make it hard to recommend this mattress.

Note: For the purposes of this review, we purchased a mattress directly from Saatva and had it shipped internationally. This model is not available for sale in Canada.

Memory Foam & Micro-Coil Hybrid Mattress

The Simba 5000 Pro Flex Mattress is a Canadian-made hybrid mattress available through Sleep Country Canada. It has below-average edge support and only comes with a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty. These are basic features for a mattress that’s regularly priced at $2,499 for a queen size.

With all this in mind, Simba 5000 may not be your best choice if you’re shopping for a premium mattress on a budget. You may prefer Logan & Cove Frontier instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pocket coil mattress?

A pocket coil mattress is made with coils (typically 5–9″ in height) that are individually wrapped in a fabric pocket. This allows each coil to move independently. Pocket coils provide excellent support, temperature regulation, and motion isolation.

Pocket coils are a common design feature in innerspring and hybrid mattresses. The pocket coil support system can typically be found at the bottom of the mattress, with comfort and transition layers of memory or cooling gel foam on top.

What are micro coils?

Micro coils are smaller than pocket coils (1–3″ in height) and lighter than standard coils. This type of coil is typically used in a mattress’s comfort and transition layers to provide improved airflow, pressure-point relief, contouring, and overall comfort. While micro coils can be used on their own, they’re often used above a layer of pocket coils.

Are pocket coil mattresses good?

Pocket coil mattresses are a good option for a wide range of sleepers. They provide good pressure-point relief, motion isolation, and cooling, and they’re known for their durability. A pocket coil mattress could be the right choice for you if you’re searching for more breathability, greater edge support, and a longer lifespan than you’ll typically get from all-foam mattresses.

What is the best pocket coil mattress?

Our top pick for the best pocket coil mattress is Logan & Cove Choice. This mattress has up to 1,200 zoned pocket coils, providing excellent motion isolation and pressure-point relief. It also includes layers of premium foams for added comfort and a quilted top cover woven with cooling nanofibres.

Logan & Cove offers a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase. At just $999 for a queen size, Logan & Cove Choice offers a luxurious sleep experience at an affordable price.

What’s the best pocket coil mattress for side sleepers?

The best pocket coil mattress for side sleepers is Logan & Cove Choice. It combines a zoned pocket coil system and foam layers to provide plenty of contouring and support in any sleep position, keeping your spine aligned while you sleep.

What’s the difference between an innerspring and a pocket coil mattress?

Innerspring mattresses are primarily made with metal coils. They can include one or more coil types, such as Bonnell, pocket, offset, continuous, or micro coils. Pocket coil mattresses are a specific type of innerspring mattress, known for their reduced noise, greater contouring, and improved motion isolation.

Pocket coil mattresses offer robust support and can be an excellent choice if you’re shopping for the best mattress for back pain. Of course, this can depend on the firmness and quality of materials used, as well as your sleep position, body type, and weight.

How many pocket coils should a mattress have?

The coil count in a pocket coil mattress can vary depending on the size and quality. If you’re shopping for a queen-size mattress, we recommend looking for one with at least 800 to 1,000 coils. A pocket coil mattress with a higher coil count can often provide better support, pressure-point relief, durability, and comfort.

What are the different types of mattresses?

Mattresses fall into many different categories. Each has different characteristics that are a good fit for a variety of sleep styles. Here are just a few types of mattresses:

  • Hybrid: Hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove combine innerspring layers with foam or latex for a perfect pairing of contour and support. They tend to have better edge support and lower temperatures than memory foam, but this comes with reduced motion isolation for a slightly less peaceful sleep. (Shopping for a hybrid? Check out our list of the best hybrid mattresses.)
  • Cooling Gel Foam: Some sleepers find normal memory foam too hot, so cooling gel foam mattresses like Douglas can be a great alternative. This type of mattress combines memory foam with cooling gel to keep temperatures comfortable while you sleep.
  • Innerspring: Innerspring mattresses support your weight with metal coils. This makes the mattress bouncy and provides good edge support, but you might find this type of mattress less comfortable if your body needs more contouring.
  • Memory Foam: Memory foam mattresses like Octave “hug” your body to relieve pressure and keep your spine aligned. They often incorporate zoned support, which can help relieve sore joints and provide other health benefits. In fact, the brand states that 86% of customers suffering from back pain said Octave helped reduce their pain.
  • Latex: Natural or synthetic latex mattresses can relieve pressure in any sleep position. They have a reputation for comfortable temperatures and can last longer than other types of mattresses. However, latex mattresses can also be more expensive and may not be ideal for some people with latex allergies.

What should I look for when choosing a mattress?

When you’re choosing a mattress, it’s important to consider more than just how comfortable it is. There are a whole range of factors to keep in mind, which we list below. (And when you’re ready to buy, make sure you buy a mattress online vs. in store.)

  • Budget: Set a budget for your new mattress and stick to it. You might even be able to make this budget go further by finding limited-time deals and promotions online.
  • Construction: Figure out what type of mattress you want, whether it’s foam, hybrid, or innerspring. There are pros and cons for each construction style, and knowing what you want will help narrow down your options.
  • Firmness: Choose a mattress with the right firmness level for your sleep style—that is, whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach. For example, side sleepers often want a softer mattress, while back sleepers may prefer something firmer. (Did you know that a medium-firm feel is ideal for most sleep styles? Get our guide to the best medium-firm mattresses.)
  • Pressure-Point Relief: Got achy joints? How about a sore back? If you do, look for a mattress with enhanced pressure-point relief so you sleep better at night. Octave Vista comes with five body-contouring support zones to aid in your body’s natural recovery and help you wake up pain-free the next day.
  • Motion Isolation: Pay close attention to motion isolation if you share your bed with a partner, kids, or pets. The higher the isolation score, the less you’ll notice movement from the other side of the bed.
  • Edge Support: Are you in the habit of sitting or sleeping near the edge of the bed? Look for a mattress with good edge support so you feel supported in any position.
  • Bounce: If you have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, you might prefer a mattress with extra bounce. (Your inner child will enjoy it, too!)
  • Contouring: Contouring materials like memory foam help support your body in all the right places. That said, too much “hug” can cause overheating and make it hard to move, so find the level of contouring that’s best for your body.
  • Temperature: Speaking of overheating—if you’re a warm sleeper, look for a mattress that promotes airflow and reduces heat. Look for a mattress with cooling gel foam and other cooling technologies.
  • Responsiveness: A responsive mattress allows you to change positions without feeling stuck. Often found in hybrid designs, a responsive mattress can help you enjoy certain activities in bed even more.
  • Noise: Nobody likes a squeaky or crinkly mattress. Get a quiet night’s sleep with a mattress made from noise-quieting materials like foam or latex.
  • Company Policies: Get details about the manufacturer’s sleep trial, return policy, and product warranty so you know what you’re getting into.
