What is the best mattress for scoliosis in Canada?

Logan & Cove Frontier is the best mattress for scoliosis in Canada, according to our rating system, which factors in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). Logan & Cove earned this title thanks to its balanced medium-firm feel, zoned support, good responsiveness, and body-contouring layers of foam, pocket coils, and micro coils.

This mattress provides excellent value with its 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and free bedding bundle with purchase, all for just $1,299 for a queen size.

Logan & Cove Frontier

Our expert mattress testers chose the Logan & Cove Frontier mattress as the Best Mattress for Scoliosis in Canada.

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine has a sideways curvature, often leading to discomfort in the back and difficulty sleeping. While a mattress won’t cure scoliosis, choosing the right bed can help support better spinal alignment and relieve pressure in key areas, making it easier to get a good night’s rest.

Look for a mattress with a medium-firm to firm feel, proper edge support, and good responsiveness (bounce). A mattress that promotes pressure-point relief and has zoned support would also help someone with scoliosis sleep more comfortably.

At MattressReviews.ca, we’ve objectively ranked the best mattress for scoliosis in Canada by reviewing factors that matter to you, like price, firmness, edge support, sleep trial length, warranty, and more.

Hybrid Mattress with Limited Features

Original Hamuq Hybrid is a medium-firm hybrid mattress made in Canada. It combines double-tempered steel coils with hypoallergenic materials and a plush Euro-top. Original Hamuq Hybrid is available online from Hamuq’s website at $899 for a queen size.

This mattress has good edge support, excellent motion isolation, and zoned support. However, Hamuq only offers a 120-night sleep trial—not much time to decide whether you want to keep the mattress. Hamuq also has a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot, no Better Business Bureau profile, and few verified customer reviews on third-party review platforms.

In comparison, competing hybrid mattress Logan & Cove Choice has advanced cooling features like CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, as well as a longer 365-night sleep trial. Logan & Cove is also rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB.

Hybrid Mattress With a Higher-Than-Average Price

S&S Organic is a hybrid mattress that features latex foam, pocketed coils, and good edge support and motion isolation, as well as a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty. Available in plush, medium-firm, and firm versions, this organic mattress is made in Canada and retails at $1,400 for a queen-size medium-firm version.

While the mattress comes with a 15-year warranty and a 365-night sleep trial, you could encounter difficulties filing a warranty claim or initiating a return. Many customers have reported issues with product quality, returns, warranty claims, and even just getting ahold of customer service.

In comparison, competing hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove Choice offer more value. At just $999 for a queen size, Logan & Cove offers a similar 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty. Logan & Cove also comes with zoned support, advanced cooling features, and a free bedding bundle.

Note: We tested the firm, medium-firm, and plush versions of the Silk & Snow Organic mattress for this review. However, the mattress’s overall rating is based on the third-party engineering scores for the medium-firm version.

Hybrid Mattress With Limited Cooling and Constant “Sales”

Emma Hybrid Comfort is a hybrid mattress with open-cell foam for cooling, zoned support for pressure-point relief, and a machine-washable cover. However, compared to other hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove Choice, Emma Hybrid Comfort lacks the advanced cooling features we would expect from a mattress that costs $1,487 for a queen size.

The manufacturer has also faced scrutiny for its retail practices, like running continuous “sales.” Consumer reviews on third-party websites like Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot have raised concerns about the company’s customer service practices.

Foam Mattress with Limited Features

Endy, an online mattress brand owned by Sleep Country Canada, offers a combination foam mattress with one firmness level. At $895 for a queen size, the mattress may not be affordable for some Canadians.

While Endy promises great comfort for its price point, it’s important to note that there isn’t much that sets it apart from other mattress brands on the market. For its price, you might expect more premium features to justify the cost.

Looking for more premium features with better value for your money? Consider competitor brands like Douglas instead.

Hybrid Mattress With Limited Features

Casper Atlas is a medium-firm hybrid mattress made by American company Casper Sleep. It features 4 layers of foam and coils. This mattress is notably heavy for a hybrid model, making it difficult for a single person to move.

At $1,199 for a queen size, Casper Atlas is also more expensive than similar hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove Choice—especially when you consider how few features Atlas has. The mattress provides limited cooling, its sleep trial is only an industry-average 100 nights, and the warranty is just 10 years.

While it’s described as a “value” model on the Casper website, Atlas just doesn’t come with the long-term value that mattress shoppers might expect.

Expensive, Hard-to-Get Innerspring Mattress

Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that comes in multiple firmness options. This mattress features two coil layers and excellent edge support. However, it has limited features and lacks the cooling we would expect to see in a mattress that costs $2,998 for a queen size.

This mattress can only be purchased directly from Saatva, which no longer ships to Canada. Saatva offers a 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty, but it’s unclear whether Saatva will honour these policies for Canadians. Overall, Saatva’s high price tag, lack of extra features, and limited availability make it hard to recommend this mattress.

Note: For the purposes of this review, we purchased a mattress directly from Saatva and had it shipped internationally. This model is not available for sale in Canada.

Higher-Priced American Hybrid Mattress

Nolah Evolution 15 is a hybrid mattress available in three firmness levels: Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm. Manufactured by 3Z Brands, the Evolution hybrid is available in Canada through Wayfair and Bed Bath & Beyond. It comes with zoned support and several cooling features, and it’s advertised as being designed for side sleepers.

We purchased the Firm model for this review. However, according to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the mattress falls into the medium-firm category. While the mattress has good edge support, it tested only average for motion isolation, so you may notice your partner’s nighttime movements.

When you buy Nolah through Wayfair, you’ll get a lifetime warranty and a 100-night sleep trial. But at $3,429 for a queen size, we would expect a longer sleep trial and more advanced features. In comparison, competitor Logan & Cove Frontier offers a 365-night sleep trial, free shipping and returns, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase—all for just $1,299 for a queen size.

Budget Mattress With Few Features and Short Warranty

Polysleep Sierra is an all-foam mattress available from Polysleep, a bed-in-a-box company. It has good edge support and motion isolation, as well as a layer of proprietary anti-microbial foam, which is designed to keep the mattress fresher for longer.

Available at $690 for a queen size, Polysleep Sierra is the entry-level model in Polysleep’s mattress lineup. Despite its affordability, it lacks many features we would expect to see at that price for a foam mattress. The mattress has almost no cooling technologies, its 100-night sleep trial is only standard for the industry, and its 5-year warranty is much shorter than its competitors.

Competing affordable foam mattresses like Juno offer more for less. At a lower price of $499 for a queen size, Juno has a layer of cooling gel foam and an optional Cool+ cover upgrade. It also comes with a free bedding bundle, a 120-night sleep trial, and a 15-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best type of mattress for scoliosis?

Either a hybrid mattress or a latex mattress is a great choice for people with scoliosis. These types of mattresses tend to provide good support and pressure-point relief so you can enjoy a deep and restorative sleep.

Hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove Frontier often feature zoned support and pocket coils, which create an ideal balance of pressure-point relief and support. They also make the bed more responsive, which can help relieve pain and allow you to change positions more easily for a more comfortable sleep. The foam layers also contribute to the mattress’s full-body contouring and comfort.

Latex mattresses with a medium-firm feel can also help with pain relief and help sleepers maintain proper spine alignment by conforming closely to the body’s natural shape. This, along with the plush sink often found in latex mattresses, also helps relieve pressure points and pain. If you prefer a mattress that contains latex to relieve muscle soreness and help you get a better night’s rest, we recommend Octave Horizon.

What is the best mattress for scoliosis?

Logan & Cove Frontier is the best mattress for scoliosis. It has a supportive yet comfortable medium-firm feel, providing just enough sink for precise pressure-point relief. This mattress has thousands of pressure-relieving aeroduct micro coils and individually wrapped zoned steel coils, which work together with the foam layers to give you body-contouring support and superior edge support.

Frontier also features a plush Euro-top cover and premium foam layers to provide the right amount of cushioning. The Euro-top provides a soft, cushioning feel that supports the hips and shoulders, making it ideal for side sleepers and those with pressure points.

What’s the best affordable mattress for scoliosis?

Logan & Cove Frontier is a luxury brand that’s accessibly priced at $1,299 for a queen size, making it the best affordable mattress for scoliosis. Some mattresses on this list may have a slightly lower price point, but they don’t have the same performance or features that Frontier provides, such as excellent edge support, zoned support, and advanced cooling features.

Paired with Logan & Cove’s 365-night sleep trial, generous 15-year warranty, and free bedding bundle with your purchase, this mattress provides the best value and is best suited for people with scoliosis. It’s also more affordable than many hybrid mattresses with similar features.

What is the best mattress firmness for scoliosis?

When it comes to mattress firmness, we suggest using a medium-firm to firm mattress. Softer mattresses that allow excessive sinking can make it harder to change positions, move around, and get in and out of bed. Choosing a mattress with zoned support is also important, as it ensures proper spine alignment and provides adequate support for your hips and lower back.

Do people with scoliosis need a unique type of mattress?

A specific mattress alone may not be sufficient to treat scoliosis. We recommend consulting your doctor for guidance on how to effectively treat and manage the condition.

That said, you should carefully consider your mattress choice to ensure it meets your specific needs. It’s essential to choose a mattress that offers proper support, the right level of plushness, and adequate pressure-point relief. The right mattress can help relieve pain and improve your sleep quality.

Is it important to choose a mattress with zoned support?

Zoned support could be particularly helpful if you have scoliosis because it provides varying levels of firmness in targeted areas, like your hips and shoulders. This helps support better alignment of the spine. It may also help reduce discomfort by making sure different parts of the body receive adequate support, leading to a more comfortable sleep experience.

What are the different types of mattresses?

Mattresses fall into many different categories. Each has different characteristics that are a good fit for a variety of sleep styles. Here are just a few types of mattresses:

  • Hybrid: Hybrid mattresses like Logan & Cove combine innerspring layers with foam or latex for a perfect pairing of contour and support. They tend to have better edge support and lower temperatures than memory foam, but this comes with reduced motion isolation for a slightly less peaceful sleep. (Shopping for a hybrid? Check out our list of the best hybrid mattresses.)
  • Cooling Gel Foam: Some sleepers find normal memory foam too hot, so cooling gel foam mattresses like Douglas can be a great alternative. This type of mattress combines memory foam with cooling gel to keep temperatures comfortable while you sleep.
  • Innerspring: Innerspring mattresses support your weight with metal coils. This makes the mattress bouncy and provides good edge support, but you might find this type of mattress less comfortable if your body needs more contouring.
  • Memory Foam: Memory foam mattresses like Octave “hug” your body to relieve pressure and keep your spine aligned. They often incorporate zoned support, which can help relieve sore joints and provide other health benefits. In fact, the brand states that 86% of customers suffering from back pain said Octave helped reduce their pain.
  • Latex: Natural or synthetic latex mattresses can relieve pressure in any sleep position. They have a reputation for comfortable temperatures and can last longer than other types of mattresses. However, latex mattresses can also be more expensive and may not be ideal for some people with latex allergies.

What should I look for when choosing a mattress?

When you’re choosing a mattress, it’s important to consider more than just how comfortable it is. There are a whole range of factors to keep in mind, which we list below. (And when you’re ready to buy, make sure you buy a mattress online vs. in store.)

  • Budget: Set a budget for your new mattress and stick to it. You might even be able to make this budget go further by finding limited-time deals and promotions online.
  • Construction: Figure out what type of mattress you want, whether it’s foam, hybrid, or innerspring. There are pros and cons for each construction style, and knowing what you want will help narrow down your options.
  • Firmness: Choose a mattress with the right firmness level for your sleep style—that is, whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach. For example, side sleepers often want a softer mattress, while back sleepers may prefer something firmer. (Did you know that a medium-firm feel is ideal for most sleep styles? Get our guide to the best medium-firm mattresses.)
  • Pressure-Point Relief: Got achy joints? How about a sore back? If you do, look for a mattress with enhanced pressure-point relief so you sleep better at night. Octave Vista comes with five body-contouring support zones to aid in your body’s natural recovery and help you wake up pain-free the next day.
  • Motion Isolation: Pay close attention to motion isolation if you share your bed with a partner, kids, or pets. The higher the isolation score, the less you’ll notice movement from the other side of the bed.
  • Edge Support: Are you in the habit of sitting or sleeping near the edge of the bed? Look for a mattress with good edge support so you feel supported in any position.
  • Bounce: If you have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, you might prefer a mattress with extra bounce. (Your inner child will enjoy it, too!)
  • Contouring: Contouring materials like memory foam help support your body in all the right places. That said, too much “hug” can cause overheating and make it hard to move, so find the level of contouring that’s best for your body.
  • Temperature: Speaking of overheating—if you’re a warm sleeper, look for a mattress that promotes airflow and reduces heat. Look for a mattress with cooling gel foam and other cooling technologies.
  • Responsiveness: A responsive mattress allows you to change positions without feeling stuck. Often found in hybrid designs, a responsive mattress can help you enjoy certain activities in bed even more.
  • Noise: Nobody likes a squeaky or crinkly mattress. Get a quiet night’s sleep with a mattress made from noise-quieting materials like foam or latex.
  • Company Policies: Get details about the manufacturer’s sleep trial, return policy, and product warranty so you know what you’re getting into.
