S&S Hybrid contains gel-infused memory foam and 8″ pocket coils, both of which provide comfort and support for sleepers with back pain. That said, the mattress doesn’t offer some features that come standard with mattresses like Octave Vista, such as a machine-washable cover. Many customers have also reported issues with product quality, returns, warranty claims, and customer service.
S&S Hybrid is a Euro-top hybrid mattress available in two firmness options: medium-firm and plush. The medium-firm option we purchased for this review costs $900 for a queen size. You’ll have to pay an additional $550 if you want the plush version or added cooling features, increasing your grand total to $1,450.
Although the mattress comes with a 15-year warranty and a 365-night sleep trial, you could encounter difficulties filing a warranty claim or initiating a return. Many customers have reported issues with product quality, returns, warranty claims, and even just getting ahold of customer service for the warranty and return process. This concerning feedback doesn’t line up with S&S Hybrid’s near-perfect star rating on the company’s website.
In comparison, competitor hybrid mattress Logan & Cove Choice offers more value. At $999 for a queen size, Choice comes with built-in advanced cooling features, a 365-night sleep trial, and a 15-year warranty. The company also has a much higher rating on Better Business Bureau compared to Silk & Snow.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
Endy Hybrid has a zoned pocket coil layer for extra support beneath the hips and lower back, which makes this mattress suitable for those with back pain. However, the plush surface of the mattress provides a “hugging” sensation that could cause too much sink. If you have a heavier body or sleep on your stomach, you may feel discomfort from improper spinal alignment. With this much sink and few cooling features, you might also experience overheating.
Endy Hybrid is an online-only hybrid mattress distributed by Sleep Country Canada, available in one firmness level. This mattress sells for $1,295 for a queen size, which may not be an accessible price for some Canadians. It also doesn’t offer many premium features that competitor mattresses provide.
If you weigh more than 115 lb or sleep on your stomach, you might find yourself sinking into this mattress too much and feel discomfort from improper spinal alignment.
The Endy Hybrid mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
The Nectar is a combination foam mattress with a memory foam comfort layer. It has a medium-firm feel with a significant amount of “hug,” making it most suitable for side sleepers. The mattress, however, has poor edge support and only average motion isolation. It’s worth noting that Nectar doesn’t consistently disclose what its mattresses are made of, where they’re manufactured, or even whether the mattress cover is machine washable.
The Nectar (aka Nectar Original) is a medium-firm combination foam mattress distributed by Resident Home. It’s available in-store and online at $899 for a queen size. The Nectar has a memory foam comfort layer featuring heat-absorbent polyethylene.
Nectar’s parent company, Resident Home, was convicted by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for repeatedly making false claims about manufacturing its mattresses entirely in the US.
The Nectar mattress might be the right fit if you are a back or side sleeper who wants:
The DreamCloud is a medium-firm hybrid mattress from DreamCloud Sleep, a subsidiary of Resident Home LLC (the company that also owns Nectar). While it has pocket coils and a medium-firm feel, this American product lacks zoned support and has only average edge support and motion isolation. DreamCloud has also been fined by the FTC for false advertising.
The DreamCloud is a medium-firm hybrid mattress from DreamCloud Sleep, a subsidiary of Resident Home LLC. It can be purchased online from DreamCloud’s website, or in-store at companies like The Brick and its parent company Leon’s. It’s worth noting that DreamCloud has been fined by the FTC for false advertising, and The Brick and Leon’s are being investigated for deceptive marketing practices by the Canadian Competition Bureau.
At $1,099 for a queen size, the DreamCloud is one of the more affordable hybrid mattresses on the market. However, this American product lacks features commonly found in other hybrid mattresses at an even lower price point. The DreamCloud’s edge support and motion isolation are only average, and it lacks advanced cooling technologies or zoned support.
In comparison, competing mattress Logan & Cove Choice offers three-zoned support and advanced cooling technologies at just $999 for a queen size. The Canadian-made mattress also comes with a free bedding bundle, while DreamCloud’s bundle comes at an added price of $500.
The DreamCloud Hybrid mattress might be the right fit if you are a side sleeper who wants:
Nolah Evolution 15 is a hybrid mattress with zoned support and comes in three firmness levels. It has a plush Euro-top cover that provides good pressure-point relief. However, the mattress is designed specifically for side sleepers, and our third-party engineer testing showed the mattress is softer than advertised. You may find it doesn’t provide enough support if you sleep on your back or stomach. Nolah Evolution is also one of the higher-priced mattresses on this list.
Nolah Evolution 15 is a hybrid mattress available in three firmness levels: Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm. Manufactured by 3Z Brands, the Evolution hybrid is available in Canada through Wayfair and Bed Bath & Beyond. It comes with zoned support and several cooling features, and it’s advertised as being designed for side sleepers.
We purchased the Firm model for this review. However, according to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the mattress falls into the medium-firm category. While the mattress has good edge support, it tested only average for motion isolation, so you may notice your partner’s nighttime movements.
When you buy Nolah through Wayfair, you’ll get a lifetime warranty and a 100-night sleep trial. But at $3,429 for a queen size, we would expect a longer sleep trial and more advanced features. In comparison, competitor Logan & Cove Frontier offers a 365-night sleep trial, free shipping and returns, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase—all for just $1,299 for a queen size.
The Nolah mattress might be the right fit if you are a side, back, or stomach sleeper who wants:
Casper Wave Hybrid is a luxury hybrid mattress with zoned support, pocket coils, and reinforced memory foam layers to promote spinal alignment. However, it has poor edge support and lacks common features that could explain the higher-than-average price of $3,499 for a queen size, like a machine-washable cover or advanced cooling features. Casper also has numerous reviews complaining of issues with warranty claims, customer service, and delivery.
Casper Wave Hybrid is a luxury hybrid mattress made in the USA. This medium-firm mattress offers zoned support and is promoted as the brand’s most comfortable and supportive mattress. However, there are few other features that would explain the higher-than-average price of $3,499 for a queen size, which may be out of reach for many shoppers.
We recommend competing mattress Logan & Cove Choice instead. Available at just $999 for a queen size, Logan & Cove Choice is a luxury hybrid mattress that offers three-zoned support for extra reinforcement under your back and hips, along with advanced cooling features and luxury details—all for less than a third of Casper Wave Hybrid’s price.
Note: This mattress has been discontinued and is no longer available through the Casper website. You may still be able to find it through third-party resellers, but pricing, delivery, sleep trial, warranty, and other details may vary.
The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress might be the right fit if you are a side, back, or stomach sleeper who wants:
Sealy Posturepedic Hollycourt is a hybrid mattress that’s only sold through Costco. Its layers of memory foam and pocket coils help provide the support that Sealy Posturepedic mattresses are known for. But this mattress doesn’t come with a sleep trial, is only available in one size, and has received customer complaints about firmness and sagging.
Sealy Posturepedic Hollycourt is a hybrid mattress that is available exclusively through Costco. It features layers of gel-infused foam and an innerspring system for $749 for a queen size—the only size it’s available in. Hollycourt performed well for edge support, and above average for motion isolation and bounce when tested by third-party engineers.
Because Hollycourt can only be purchased at Costco, it does not come with a sleep trial. Instead, any returns will be processed through Costco’s return policy. Hollycourt comes with Sealy’s 10-year warranty, but it can be voided by spills or stains on the mattress.
In comparison, brands like Logan & Cove offer a risk-free 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty, as well as a free bedding bundle with purchase—including a mattress protector to help avoid spills and stains.
Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite might be the right fit if you are a side, back, or stomach sleeper who wants:

Octave Vista is the best mattress for back pain, with the advanced mattress construction and customer feedback to prove it. Plus, 78% of Octave owners surveyed said they noticed better physical health, mental health, and overall well-being since they started sleeping on an Octave mattress.
Octave is recommended by doctors as the best mattress for back pain. In fact, our medical consultants specifically recommend Octave Horizon. As the most premium option in the Octave lineup, Octave Horizon provides the greatest comfort and pressure-point relief of all three mattresses, supporting your body’s natural overnight recovery.

A medium-firm memory foam mattress (like Octave Vista) is the best mattress for low back pain and other types of back pain. Memory foam conforms to the shape of your body, helping to relieve pressure points and support the lower back.
A medium-firm mattress helps distribute pressure evenly across your body and keeps your spine aligned, making it ideal for nearly any sleeping position. Ultimately, the best mattress for lower back pain can vary from person to person, as individual preferences and body types play a significant role.
Octave Vista is the best mattress for lumbar pain. With its five-zoned support system, Vista provides consistent ergonomic support beneath your back, hips, and knees while you sleep.
Layers of high-density memory foam and responsive Elastex® foam are designed to cushion and contour around your body, relieving strain and tension, reducing pressure points, and supporting proper spinal alignment. This design effectively reduces discomfort and stiffness while aiding in your body’s natural overnight recovery.
In addition to these features, Octave comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. The combination of quality construction and excellent value is why Octave is our top pick for the best bed mattress for lower back pain.
A medium-firm latex mattress can provide comfort for people with upper back pain. Many mattresses with natural latex or Elastex® foam layers (such as Octave Vista, Octave Mirage, or Octave Horizon) help relieve specific pressure points in the upper back and shoulders. Zoned support creates an ideal balance of both pressure relief and support.
If you sleep on your side, choose a mattress that allows your shoulders to sink in while keeping your spine aligned. Using a pillow that isn’t too lofty and hugging a second pillow can help prevent shoulder slouching, reducing upper back pain during sleep.
As a side sleeper with back pain, you’ll most likely want a mattress with a medium-firm feel that contains memory foam or latex. We recommend Octave Vista, a memory foam mattress with layers of responsive Elastex® foam, which is a type of foam that mimics the properties of latex. If you’d like a mattress containing latex, you can upgrade to Octave Mirage or Octave Horizon for more pressure-point relief and overall comfort.
Actually, the best mattress for back pain is typically medium-firm. A mattress that’s too firm can cause pressure points on your body, while medium-firm mattresses distribute your body weight more evenly. When a mattress is too soft, your hips and shoulders may sink too deeply into the bed, causing your spine to curve unnaturally. A medium-firm mattress strikes a balance between these two extremes.
The best medium-firm mattresses come with additional comfort layers like memory foam or latex. These comfort layers provide some softness and contouring while maintaining ample support. They offer enough cushioning for side sleepers to ease pressure on their hips and shoulders while providing enough support for back and stomach sleepers.

It’s best to sleep in a way that keeps your head, back, and neck in a straight line. However, the best sleeping position for back pain can vary from person to person, based on body shape, weight, and pain levels.
Sleeping on your back is often considered the best position for back pain because it allows your spine to maintain its natural curve. Avoid using a tall pillow under your head for less strain on your neck. If you’re a back sleeper, try placing a pillow under your knees to keep your spine aligned and pelvis comfortable.
If you prefer to sleep on your side, try placing a pillow between your knees to help align your spine, pelvis, and hips, which reduces strain on your lower back. You can also place a small pillow or rolled-up towel under your waist for additional support.
Sleeping on your stomach is generally not recommended for back pain because it can strain your neck and lower back. If you must sleep in this position, place a thin pillow under your pelvis to reduce pressure on your lower back and try to use a flat pillow for your head.
