Fiberglass fire socks are common in mattresses produced in the United States. There’s no way to know for sure whether Sleep Country mattresses contain fiberglass, so carefully research the mattress brands and models you’re considering. Here are some clues to watch out for:
- Country of origin. If a mattress is made in the United States or China, there’s a good chance the mattress contains fiberglass.
- Materials on the law label. Look for the word “fiberglass,” as well as “glass fibers,” “glass wool,” “glass-reinforced plastic,” “glass-fiber reinforced plastic,” or “fiberglass-reinforced plastic.”
- Pricing. The cheaper the mattress, the more likely it contains a fiberglass fire sock as an inexpensive way to meet national fire regulation policies.
Sleep Country sells mattresses from multiple brands, and different brands often use different manufacturing methods. This includes their fire safety features, which is where fiberglass is most often used.
Some of these brands have been known to use fiberglass. For example, Casper has previously stated that their mattresses contain fiberglass. This statement is no longer on Casper’s website. To be safe, double-check the law label if you purchase a Casper mattress from Sleep Country.
It’s worth noting that Douglas Original—our top pick for Best Mattress Canada—is fully manufactured in Canada and doesn’t contain fiberglass.
