Firmness

Juno has a firmness score of 6.0/10, giving it a balanced medium-firm feel ideal for any sleep position. The mattress adapts to your body, providing the perfect amount of sink for pressure relief and spinal alignment while still allowing you to change positions easily.

The IKEA Valevag mattress is on the upper end of the medium-firm category, with a firmness score of 6.7/10. This mattress is suitable for most sleeping styles, although lightweight or side sleepers might prefer a slightly softer feel.

Structube Loft 8 has the lowest firmness score at 5.7/10. This rating also places it in the medium-firm category, but makes it the softest of the three mattresses.

Edge Support

Foam mattresses are typically not known for their edge support, but Juno sets itself apart with its excellent score of 8.0/10. Getting out of bed will be a breeze. This is also great news for those who like to sit or sleep near the edge of their mattress.

Structube and IKEA also both performed well when tested for edge support. Both the Structube and IKEA mattresses scored 8.3/10. Valevag likely achieves this edge support through its hybrid construction, while the Loft 8’s layer of high-density support foam creates a supportive edge.

Motion Isolation

Superior motion isolation ensures you can enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep without disruptions from your partner, children, or pets. This feature ensures that movements on one side of the bed are barely felt on the other, promoting uninterrupted sleep for everyone. Juno received an above-average motion isolation score of 6.2/10 in third-party engineer testing.

IKEA Valevag also earned an above-average score of 7.4/10. Structube Loft 8, on the other hand, earned the lowest score of 6.1/10. While Valevag has the highest motion isolation score, you should be able to enjoy an undisturbed night’s sleep with any one of these mattresses.

Bounce

A mattress with high bounce offers a springy surface, while one with a lower bounce score is less reactive to movement. Foam mattresses typically achieve high motion isolation scores, which correspond to lower bounce ratings. While bounce is more of a preference, it can also indicate how easily you can change sleep positions and whether you might feel “stuck” in the mattress.

Juno has the lowest bounce rating of the three mattresses at 2.5/10. Combined with the mattress’s good motion isolation score, you should notice a fairly consistent sleep surface that reduces nighttime disturbances.

IKEA Valevag has a rating of 2.7/10, and Structube Loft 8 scored 3.3/10. Mattresses with higher bounce ratings can offer ease of movement, but they can also cause more motion transfer, which can disturb your partner when you move. It’s also worth noting that IKEA’s Valevag’s bounce score is unusually low for a hybrid mattress.

Cooling Features

Foam mattresses have been known to trap heat, so even budget-friendly mattresses tend to incorporate cooling technology to help with heat dissipation and ensure a comfortable sleep. This is not always the case, however.

IKEA Valevag earned a very low 0.6/10 cooling features score. Its only notable cooling feature is its layer of pocket coils that allow for breathability and airflow. In comparison, Structube earned a cooling features score of 2.2/10 thanks to its layers of cooling gel foam and convoluted foam, which enhance heat dissipation and breathability.

Juno, however, outperforms them both, earning a cooling features score of 2.4/10. Juno’s layer of cooling gel foam and its optional Cool+ cover upgrade both contributed to this score. If you’re looking for an affordable mattress that stops you from sleeping hot, Juno is your best choice.

Juno, Structube Loft 8, and IKEA Valevag are all affordably priced, but that’s one of the few things they have in common. These mattresses all have varying layers and construction to provide different benefits.

Juno Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer consists of 2″ of full-body cooling gel foam, giving you contoured comfort and a cool night’s sleep. It has a foam density of 2.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The support layer is 6″ of total support foam, which makes the mattress feel firmer, provides extra edge support, and reduces motion transfer from the other side of the bed. Its foam density is 1.85 lb/ft³.

Juno’s cover design pays tribute to the classic striped wool socks that have been a staple in Canadian wardrobes for generations. The grey-white-and-berry pattern is crafted from polyester and viscose materials, with a prominent berry-coloured stripe along one end of the mattress. This cover isn’t removable and should be spot-cleaned only.

Structube Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 1″ gel-infused memory foam. This layer provides cushioning so you don’t feel the layers beneath, and its cooling gel wicks heat away from your body.
  • Layer 2: The second layer is 1″ charcoal foam. This foam, which uses the same engineering principles as charcoal air filters, adds support and is advertised to help manage odours.
  • Layer 3: The third layer is 2″ convoluted foam, a type of foam that has a peak-and-valley structure. This creates air channels to wick heat and odours away from your bed.
  • Layer 4: The bottom (support) layer is 4″ unspecified high-density foam. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk and prevents you from sinking too deeply into the mattress layers.

The mattress cover on Structube Loft 8 is designed to be breathable, anti-microbial, and anti-mite. However, Structube doesn’t specify how or why the cover does so. The cover also has a zipper, but the company doesn’t say whether the mattress cover is machine washable or not. We recommend spot-cleaning only to be safe.

IKEA Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 1.5″ of memory foam. This layer provides cushioning so you don’t feel the coils in the transition layer. Foam density: 1.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 6.5″ of pocketed coils. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk and provides a small amount of airflow.
  • Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 0.25″ of foam. This foam provides a foundation for the support layer, and insulates the mattress from the bedframe.

The mattress cover has a plush comfort filling that accounts for 1.25″ of the mattress’s height. The cover is made from polypropylene and 100% recycled polyester. This cover has a zipper, but it’s not meant to be removed. It also isn’t machine-washable. IKEA recommends spot-cleaning stains using upholstery shampoo.

IKEA Valevag also doesn’t have any cooling features to help keep temperatures down. Given the mattress’s plush surface, you may experience late-night overheating.

When you’re comparing delivery, sleep trial, delivery, and warranty for Juno vs Structube vs IKEA, there’s a clear winner. Juno has the longest sleep trial and warranty of all three mattresses—and only Juno provides a full refund during the sleep trial period.

Juno

Comparing Juno vs Structube vs IKEA, Juno drastically outshines the competition when it comes to delivery, sleep trials, and warranty. Juno ships its mattresses using FedEx for free to most Canadians. Including time needed to dispatch your order, you can expect your mattress to be delivered in 2–10 business days.

Juno arrives in a box, with the mattress wrapped in layers of plastic for safe transport. Once opened, the mattress expands and is sleep-ready in minutes.

Juno offers a generous 120-night sleep trial to test out the mattress at home. If you decide that the mattress isn’t right for you during the trial period, you can easily return it with free pickup and a full refund. Juno also stands behind their product by offering a 15-year warranty—much longer than Structube and IKEA’s warranties.

Structube

Structube offers home delivery and in-store pickup. They deliver mattresses for free using their own shipping service. Delivery is free for orders over $299 if you live in their “free-delivery zone.” However, the Structube website doesn’t say where or how big this zone is. A fee may end up being applied to your purchase as a result.

Delivery times are not specified on Structube’s website. The company only says it can take up to 14 business days for the order to arrive at the transporter’s facility. They will either leave the package at your doorstep or provide “room of choice” delivery for an extra fee. If you choose in-store pickup, it can take up to 10 business days for your order to arrive at the store, or 14 business days if you live outside Quebec and Ontario.

The Structube Loft 8 mattress arrives wrapped in a plastic sheet and rolled up in a red plastic-and-canvas bag. The mattress we ordered took several hours to fully expand, so your Structube mattress may not be sleep-ready on the day of delivery.

Structube mattresses don’t come with a sleep trial. Instead, there’s a 7-day return period during which you can return the mattress in its original packaging for a refund. This means you can’t even sleep on the mattress to try it out. Returns are subject to a $69 shipping fee plus applicable taxes.

Structube offers only a 1-year warranty on its mattresses—the shortest warranty of any mattress we have ever reviewed.

IKEA

IKEA delivers mattresses to most regions across Canada via FedEx. Delivery options and times depend on your postal code. Contactless doorstep delivery starts at $39, with an option to upgrade to in-home delivery starting at $59. IKEA mattresses arrive rolled up, wrapped in a plastic sheet, and held together with fabric bands.

The company offers a 90-night exchange period. You can exchange your mattress for another and pay the difference if the replacement mattress is more expensive. Or, you can return it for an IKEA refund card, which never expires and can be used online and in-store. Either way, you won’t receive a refund for the cash value of the mattress.

IKEA offers a 10-year warranty if you end up keeping the mattress. This is an industry-average warranty length, but is still shorter than Juno’s.

Pick the mattress with the best warranty, return policy, and sleep trial.
