Meet Sealy.

Sealy was founded in the 1880s and has been an industry frontrunner since the 1920s. In 2012, Sealy merged with Tempur-Pedic, one of its biggest competitors, to become Tempur Sealy International, Inc. The corporation also owns the Stearns & Foster brand.

Popular Sealy Mattresses

Sealy is a longstanding Canadian brand, with the name “Posturepedic” ringing a bell in most households. The company has been around for nearly 150 years, but Sealy’s lifespan is far more impressive than its reputation. Sealy has poor online ratings and a number of negative reviews from unsatisfied customers.

Sealy mattresses are only available through third-party retailers like Sleep Country. This means you have to visit a brick-and-mortar location to test out different mattresses. It also means you’re subject to the retailer’s return policies, like Sleep Country’s exchange-only policy with a $65 return fee. (Online mattress brands like Octave offer free returns, paired with their 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty).

While many Canadians enjoy the zoned support of a Sealy Posturepedic mattress, the cost of entry is often high. Most twin sizes start at over $1,000. Aside from the zoned support, there aren’t many features to explain this higher price tag. In comparison, similar mattresses from brands like Octave come with advanced cooling features and start at just $899 for a queen.

Sealy Posturepedic Hollycourt

Sealy Posturepedic Hollycourt is a hybrid mattress available exclusively at Costco. The mattress is only available in a queen size, and retails at $749. A matching box spring can be added to the purchase for an additional cost.

Hollycourt is made up of 4 foam and spring layers. Its polyester mattress cover is treated to be antibacterial to help maintain freshness. Since spills or stains can void your warranty, be sure to purchase a mattress protector.

Cocoon by Sealy

Cocoon by Sealy is the company’s bed-in-a-box collection. The Cocoon Essential memory foam mattress we reviewed was discontinued in 2024. However, it may still be available through third-party retailers.

Cocoon Essential doesn’t have any cooling features to balance out the heat-trapping qualities of memory foam. It also lacks a machine-washable cover, meaning it’ll be hard to clean up any sweat stains.

Looking for a foam mattress with cooling features and a machine-washable cover? Consider Douglas Original.

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione (Discontinued)

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione was a cooling memory foam mattress. It retailed at $2,399 for a queen size and was discontinued in 2024.

Chill Trio Dione contained just 2 layers of memory foam, with one layer being infused with cooling gel foam. Apart from a mattress cover made with cooling yarn, there were no other notable cooling features to justify the comparatively high price tag.

Want a cooling mattress that doesn’t break the bank? Consider Octave Horizon.

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite (Discontinued)

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Aphrodite was an all-foam mattress that retailed at $1,499 for a queen size. It was discontinued in 2024.

Meant for supporting good posture while sleeping, this mattress had 3 foam layers, one of which was memory foam. Despite this, Aphrodite received the lowest motion isolation score of any mattress we have ever tested.

Looking for a mattress with significantly better motion isolation for a lower price? Meet Octave Vista.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sealy a good mattress?

Sealy has sold over 100 million mattresses in almost 150 years, so it’s safe to say that they have a number of satisfied customers. However, customer reviews on sites such as Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot seem to be overwhelmingly negative. The company currently holds a BBB rating of “B-” (unaccredited) and a “Poor” Trustpilot rating.

To ensure you end up with a mattress you love, we suggest choosing a mattress backed by a lengthy trial period, warranty, and positive reviews. Consider a brand like Octave instead. Every Octave mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty. In addition to having 5,200+ five-star customer reviews, Octave is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on Better Business Bureau.

Are all Sealy mattresses Posturepedic?

Not every Sealy mattress is Posturepedic, but most are. In each Sealy line (spring, foam and hybrid), at least one mattress contains Posturepedic zoned support. Entry-level mattresses, however, may not contain the Posturepedic technology. It’s also worth noting that Cocoon by Sealy, the company’s bed-in-a-box brand, doesn’t offer Posturepedic options.

How much is a Sealy Posturepedic mattress?

The price of a Sealy Posturepedic depends on the size and model you choose, as well as which third-party retailer you purchase from. Prices for Sealy mattresses through Sleep Country start from $499 and go well above $4,000. This is quite expensive for a mattress. Note that Sleep Country has an exchange-only policy, meaning you won’t get a refund if you return your mattress.

Who sells Sealy Posturepedic mattresses?

Companies such as Sleep Country, The Brick, and Leon’s all carry Sealy Posturepedic mattresses. Walmart also sells some Sealy mattresses through its online marketplace. However, these mattresses are sold and shipped by Sleep Country, so Walmart’s return and warranty policies don’t apply.

How long does a Sealy Posturepedic mattress last?

The lifetime of a Sealy Posturepedic mattress depends on the model. Each model has a different warranty length, which you can use as a stand-in for that mattress’s lifespan. Sealy’s warranty ranges from 1 year to 10 years—but you won’t know the exact length unless you check the warranty tag on the mattress.

Can you flip a Sealy Posturepedic mattress?

Most modern mattresses—especially those containing springs—are meant to be used right side up. That said, mattresses should be rotated every 3–6 months to ensure equal weight distribution. This will help prevent your mattress from developing any unwanted divots or humps.

Do Sealy mattresses have fiberglass?

We can’t say for certain whether or not Sealy mattresses contain fiberglass. To comply with fire safety laws, some American mattress manufacturers use fire socks that contain fiberglass as a fire-resistant and self-suppressant material. There is no Canadian equivalent to this law, so Canadian mattresses are typically fiberglass-free.

According to the Sealy website, mattresses are assembled in Canada using both Canadian and US parts. This means there is some possibility, but no guarantee, that a Sealy mattress could contain fiberglass. Check your mattress’s label to see what’s inside. You can also ask Sealy’s customer service team if the mattress you’re considering contains fiberglass.

Do Sealy mattresses need a box spring?

It depends on the mattress. Sealy mattresses can be compatible with a variety of foundations, such as a box spring, platform base, or adjustable bed. If you’re considering a specific Sealy mattress, check to see what base is required before you buy.

What is Sealy’s mattress warranty?

Sealy’s warranty only covers manufacturing defects. It doesn’t cover incidental damage to the mattress, or any sagging and indentations shallower than 1.5″. The warranty length for a specific mattress depends on the schedule number printed on the warranty tag. The warranty period is typically between 1 and 10 years.

What is a good Sealy mattress alternative?

If you’re looking for similar features to a Sealy mattress for a lower price, we recommend Octave Vista. Its copper-infused cooling memory gel and air channels help to transfer heat and moisture away from your body while you rest. Vista also has a machine-washable cover that makes it easy to keep your mattress fresh night after night.

Priced at just $899 for a queen size, Octave is a quality mattress brand at an accessible price. It comes with a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty. Your purchase also includes a free bedding bundle with a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s).
